Joseph:- Daddy, Daddy, the owner didn’t give me the bag of jelly babies he promised me if I won the race.
Daddy:- Don’t worry son, yer mammy will make sure you gets double helpings if you win the Derby as well
I vaguely remember going to Wetherby races in my teens, and seeing horses in the race card that showed ‘dam unknown’ or ‘dam by …..’.
This would have been NH racing anyway.
Excellent photos, thank you Cormack. Agree with Triptych about the ‘eye’ photo.
A report on Facebook today says that the body of Lough Donnell Mist was left covered on the racecourse overnight and part of the next day as nobody turned up to remove her. Has anybody any further information on this report, please?

Mr Beek
Your explanation and clarification of the circumstances which led to the untimely loss Captain Dimitrios is greatly appreciated and gratefully welcomed.
Hear hear. My condolences to you and all connected with your horse.
Farewell, old boy. RIP
Can’t be certain Moe, but reports are that he was struck into but was walked back to the paddock, so hopefully not as bad as could be. It was Ubi Ace.
There was a nice little tribute film on CountryFile on Sunday evening between Adam Henson and Jonjo O’Neill. It was made up of two visits to Jackdaw’s Castle, before and after the GN, and was centred around Synchronised. Quite moving, I thought

Was she in foal at the time as well?
I think she was, possibly to Mr. Prospector, but memory may be wrong on that!
Am I alone in thinking that the jockeys maybe responsible to some degree for the crowding at some fences? I appreciate that no-one really wants to go to the outside of a fence, as it will no doubt add an extra furlong or so to the distance travelled, but it’s my opinion (for what it’s worth) that a horse generally goes where it is steered, and that is by the jockey.

Oh blimey!! Does it mean that Silver Blaze (trained by Alan Swinbank) was runner up at Newcastle, being beaten by a John Gosden trained horse, who has not been out since?
Sorry to cause you some anxiety Mo, I should have deleted a bit more before I posted my message. I will get the hang of this eventually

I believe aji is making an ironic analogy.
Sorry, bit slow this morning!

Where do we have dog fighting?
Now the National fences have been modified the horses are running much too fast, and I want to know where the safety nets were for horses to ‘run out’ of the race when poor Synchronised got up from his fall and was able to jump 5 more fences before Bechers where he finally fell for the last time. I still can’t get over why he ever ran at all after showing signs that he was spooked by the whole affair, but it’s too late for that now and it has thrown a shadow over the GN once more.
there were screens up on the take off side of a fence on the final circuit ( the field bypassed this fence as there were also screens on the landing side ) – Synchronised fell, was injured but tried to continue and came to grief further down the track.
I really think that the screens which you say were on the take-off side of the fence were there purely to help block off the fence. I’m not sure there was any incident on the take-off side. I’ll no doubt be proved wrong.
Yes indeed, I hope she was. What’s going on with racing? How many horses have been lost in recent weeks between fences/hurdles? I’m getting quite nervous about watching racing now.

Moe, it’s Helperby. Think it’s correct postal address will be Helperby, York. It’s on the other side of the river to me.
