It scared me when Clare said ‘oh, he didn’t like the look of that’ when McCoy showed him the fence. Like everyone else I was relieved to see him galloping on, but now I don’t feel that he was galloping on happily but desperately trying to catch up with the other horses. I only really warmed to him today, and was watching out [sadly] for the two horses with the white faces, as I was desperate to see Pete come home safe. So sad that the tragedy that was the loss of One Man was exorcised slightly by Neptune Collonges winning, and yet another sad departure will haunt the racecourse in the future. It must be hard for owners to want their horses to achieve immortality. Who knows what might have happened if Red Rum hadn’t’ve been pulled out of his last National?
April 14, 2012 at 23:10 #400777Absolutely gutted!

I backed him because I thought he could’ve potentially completed the historic double (Gold Cup & National). Now that he’s gone, I’m still having a problem getting my head around it all.
As one or two others have already mentioned, there’s a strange sense that the horse knew his fate before the off. Even Clare Balding said that he looked as though he didn’t want to come out as he was being prepared for the race.
When I found out he’d died, I sat for a while with my head in my hands and tears oozed.
I’ll always remember Synchronised. A beautiful warrior with a big heart.
April 15, 2012 at 03:09 #400800Absolutely incredible horse. Brave as the proverbial lion and diminutive enough to take into your heart. Winner of two nationals andtwo Grade 1s including the Cheltenham Gold Cup. I know when people say he is not much to look at they mean in a purely racing point of view but he was a very attractive looking horse. The big white blaze on his face, sturdy and compact. I thought he was a beautiful horse. But, he is no more important than any other horse and deserves to be treated like any other 9 yo at the top of his game, a competitor, and a great one at that.
This comment is not only meant to commemorate a fantastic race horse but to gain some perspective with regard to all horses lives and not put the value of one horse over another. While we are willing to risk the lives of some horses in some races, there are inherent risks with all racing. Any horse sent out on the track increases its chances of injury and one race can never be blamed for that risk turning to tragedy.
I want to extend my condolences to JP McManus who cares for his horses as much as any owner and more than many. Also to Jonjo for whom this is a second similar tragedy and will likely open old wounds. And to the champion AP who will share as much pain as anyone on these forums or anyone else who is upset by the loss of Synchronised.
This is one horse that will certainly NEVER be forgotten.
April 15, 2012 at 08:21 #400814Not joining in with the "he should never have run" brigade. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
RIP old boy, and huge condolences to all connections, who must be absolutely gutted.
April 15, 2012 at 08:43 #400817Hindsight is indeed a wonderful thing but LOTS of people, far more experts than the likes of me were doubting the correctness of his participation – yesterday’s "Morning Line" lot were saying about his jumping, and that of Junior’s too – and he came a cropper at the 2nd … and I know the actual fall wasn’t fatal but if he hadn’t fallen then he wouldn’t have been loose … but who knows what might have happened??
Sunnyhillboy also won at Cheltenham but he had a much better jumping technique and proved it – shame it couldn’t have been a dead-heat …April 15, 2012 at 11:09 #400846Here’s a couple of pictures from Aintree yesterday of Synchronised in the pre-parade ring Beau Ranger – if anyone wants copies of these just PM me.

April 15, 2012 at 11:18 #400849And a bit of a sad one of him trotting back after his pre-race adventure to join the rest of the field at the start.

April 17, 2012 at 08:08 #401157Couldn’t agree more with triptych and ten plus comments, Synchronised such a brave horse and like Alverton should never have been in the race.

April 29, 2012 at 04:33 #402495Have you actually put that tribute together? If so I took a lovely photo of him with his smiling lass in the paddock just before the National – that’s my current Avatar (which is slightly gone wrong in the sizing) and I’d love it to be included if possible …

Lovely idea. I am firmly in the "never should have run in it" camp. I wonder whose misguided ambition that was?

RIP Synchronised
May 1, 2012 at 07:03 #402637There was a nice little tribute film on CountryFile on Sunday evening between Adam Henson and Jonjo O’Neill. It was made up of two visits to Jackdaw’s Castle, before and after the GN, and was centred around Synchronised. Quite moving, I thought
