Anyone know how the wonderful Lough Derg got on today at Lockinge??
Very sad to see. RIP.
RIP to you all.
(On a selfish note – am very glad I was in the office today so didn’t see these.)
Terribly sad – what an awful week.Kauto Star.
Our Vic – for his resilience in coming back to win good races again afterThat
fall at Cheltenham.
RIP Stop On. Sleep tight.
RIP Soft Spoken Guy, so sorry your jockey didn’t pull you up.
Poor baby – not really 3 years old until April and already had 10 races in he last 6 months. Very sad.
Didnt see this yesterday. Have read all the various comments on here and made myself watch a replay just now.
My view as a showjumper is that it was what we would refer to as a "miss". We see this a lot in amateur showjumping – rider has horse on a very long one – horse thinks about popping in another stride, then in a split second realises there isn’t really room so snatches leading leg back and rather dives over fence. Usually accompanied by a sharp intake of breath, heart in the mouth moment for those watching. They get away with it SJ 99.9% of the time due to going so much slower and the fences at amateur level being very small, giving the horse a chance to "find another leg".
Difficult to tell from the replay, but it’s possible Darlan didn’t get a view of the hurdle soon enough, hence him changing his mind. I’m not an AP fan, however I wouldn’t blame him for this.Very sad news indeed. Colic is such a horrible thing and from the report they did everything to try and save him. RIP little man.
He did remarkably well to get to 23 – making it through 2 lots of colic surgery is no mean feat! Good on his connections for giving him the chance too, as those operations and aftercare are not cheap! RIP old chap – enjoy yourself up there.
Very sad – such a handsome horse.
I’ve bought lots of Red Rum stuff from ebay – paintings, books ceramics etc & only ever had one problem, with a statue that arrived broken but got my money back via Paypal. Other than that, everything else has been just as described and always arrived quickly. Even managed to buy one of RR’s shoes worn in the 1977 3rd win – originally it was 1st prize in a Daily Mirror competition, which I remember entering at the time and getting a runner up prize of a photo, which I still have. Some young lad was selling it as his uncle had left it to him and he didn’t want it – don’t think he’d realised just how unique it was (one of only 4, obviously!) so I didn’t pay loads of money for it.
Terribly sad. Somehow I always want to read the racing record of the fatalaties – as they’ve paid the ultimate price, I feel it’s the least I can do. This old warrior had also been ridden by the world and his wife during his career and this was his first race since July. RIP lad, sorry you didn’t get the chance of a happy retirement.
Phew. That’s good to hear, hope he makes a full recovery.

How come a jockey can get several days ban for giving one tap over the limit, but driving an exhausted horse to his death is no problem apparently?
I think there should be a stewards enquiry into every racecourse death as a matter of routine, with the results published on the BHA website.
Very sad. RIP Connack, you gave your all.

I’ll probably get shot down in flames for this – but was just watching this race on the replay tonight and why oh why didn’t he get pulled up sooner. Jamie Moore never stopped kicking and scrubbing and flapping the reins at him and I was thinking you’re going to completely unbalance a very tired horse and bring him down in a minute, please, please, pull him up. You could just see him in the background scramble over the third last, and then on the head on you could see people running across at which point I was fearing the worst, so came to check on RP and RF.
What a tragic end for a sweet looking horse who’d never fallen – he deserved better.- AuthorPosts
