March 17, 2012 at 19:28 #397497Sad to read the news. Hadn’t heard of him for a while and was a favourite of mine. RIP.
March 17, 2012 at 19:51 #397501Such a shame – a veteran having his 71st race … RIP old warrior.
March 17, 2012 at 21:23 #397511I’ll probably get shot down in flames for this – but was just watching this race on the replay tonight and why oh why didn’t he get pulled up sooner. Jamie Moore never stopped kicking and scrubbing and flapping the reins at him and I was thinking you’re going to completely unbalance a very tired horse and bring him down in a minute, please, please, pull him up. You could just see him in the background scramble over the third last, and then on the head on you could see people running across at which point I was fearing the worst, so came to check on RP and RF.
What a tragic end for a sweet looking horse who’d never fallen – he deserved better.March 17, 2012 at 21:30 #397512I’ve just seen the replay to and was about to post exactly what you have said Mort … he should have been pulled up. He had run his race, prominent in 2nd place for a long way then he started to fade and was not responding to jockey … why continue???? It’s a shame the horse din’t live upto his name and put the brakes on and send the jockey over the fence – not a stylish ride at all – all that bumping and flapping – totally a terrible and tragic ride …
March 19, 2012 at 07:13 #397675A really sad end for one of the old warriers of the game. He’ll be missed. RIP.

I’ve just watched the replay and I am disgusted that RUK didn’t even mention that he had fallen. Poor old fella.

From the speed he dropped back so suddenly I would guess it might have been more than just plain tiredness, maybe a little strain, and any half-decent jockey should have picked up that he’d seriously had more than enough. Another disgrace.
How come a jockey can get several days ban for giving one tap over the limit, but driving an exhausted horse to his death is no problem apparently?
RIP Canni Thinkaar
March 19, 2012 at 15:05 #397735Well said Nighthorse several horses have died this way this year…

I think there should be a stewards enquiry into every racecourse death as a matter of routine, with the results published on the BHA website.
March 20, 2012 at 07:10 #397798Very good point.
March 21, 2012 at 15:41 #397957Such sad news, agree with every single post on here about brave Canni Thinkaar, if only more cared as much as we do, the Stewards must be made of stone not to have hauled Jamie Moore up for this
