RIP lovely boy
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...August 30, 2012 at 06:31 #411416He did remarkably well to get to 23 – making it through 2 lots of colic surgery is no mean feat! Good on his connections for giving him the chance too, as those operations and aftercare are not cheap! RIP old chap – enjoy yourself up there.

August 30, 2012 at 17:44 #411487So far this year we’ve lost Florida Pearl, Minnehoma, Uncle Ernie and Young Hustler amongst others. I guess it’s around about that time when most of the horses I grew up with begin dropping off which is weird because when they were in their pomp, they seemed immortal to me.
Go Ballistic would certainly be one of those. Especially as I remember watching the Channel 4 replay of his victory in a Doncaster novice hurdle with Derek Thompson doing the voiceover. I followed his career from before I started high school through to ditching school and work to watch him contest his gold cups. As such, it’s this kind of passing that firmly snaps the umbilical cord of my passion for the sport.
I’m happy he had a good innings and that he’s free from the suffering that colic brings.
RIP
September 1, 2012 at 23:28 #411732My boss [long since retired and gone back to Ireland, lucky bloke] used to back him because of his wonderful name. Young Hustler gone as well? Truly the end of an era. Was in a shop in Berwick a couple of days ago and they had original paintings of Dessie, Earth Summit and Teeton Mill, so I’ve been in a sort of nostalgia land ever since. I thought he was selling the paintings for £4.75 but then realised he meant £475. The one of Earth Summit was particularly good because I always think of him as wearing blinkers.
