If they go a slow gallop, then they can be compared to a marathon, where runners utilise aerobic fitness more than anaerobic capacity and they have the ability to speed up at the end of their races as they don’t have a high build up of lactic acid during their race.
Does anyone have any examples of sectional times where the final sectional is the fastest of the race?
Dancing Brave in The Derby was pretty quick I believe.
they’re young and have time on their side
Erm…Hobbs Hill is a 9yo.
Pinturischio.
Twice doped by the bookmaking fraternity, I believe. Allegedly
This is McCoy we’re talking about – he’ll be at the festival. Normal recovery estimates are for mere mortals, and don’t apply to AP.
Is Flyingbolt’s Queen Mother win / Champion Hurdle tilt on there Arazi ?
Firstly, enormous thanks to Arazi for putting these up.
In a 90s poll of Champion Hurdle winning trainers and jockeys Persian War came out on top. Francome, Smith-Eccles and even Peter Easterby plumped for him !
Persian War won his titles on good, firm and heavy going – a true champion.
Couldn’t agree more.
Harchibald has enormous talent, he just won’t stretch or fight, that’s all.
He usually gets to the front by virtue of his jumping, then you can see him start to look around. If a casual observer watched the CH in which he was runner-up to Hardy, (05?) they’d probably think the fix was in……..
I do enjoy watching him though, Carberry has an awfully difficult job trying to kid him into winning…….sometimes it works, sometimes not

I couldn’t have him carrying any of my money.
Agreed, and better late than never.
Just watched all the usual nonsense at the weigh-in

Hatton may have to play fast and loose with the Queensberry’s to beat this guy, he can’t outbox him, and probably doesn’t have knockout power at this level. Mayweather ought to be prepared for plenty of low blows, thumbs, rabbit punches, butts – all accidental of course

That’s assuming Hatton can get close to him……I have Mayweather winning in the middle rounds on a cuts stoppage.
Hurdling might need a star, but are today’s crop really 12 – 15lb worse than Istabraq, or was he a bit overrated ?
Dunkirk, maybe.
And at levels, I’d have Flyingbolt over Denman and KS most days of the week.
Denman was hugely impressive today, but as regards the Arkle – Mill House comparisons………….surely a better one would be Arkle – Flyingbolt , as they’re stablemates ? A mouth-watering clash for sure in March. Let’s hope both remain sound.
I love KS, but on that jumping performance I’d have to have Denman. You probably all have it anyway, but Michael Tanner’s "The Champion Hurdle – from Blaris to Istabraq" is a fantastic read.
So sound effects are added to programmes to add to viewers’ enjoyment – the flapped rubber gloves for bird’s wings for example ?
Really?
It just ruins every nature programme you’ve ever seen, doesn’t it ?

Is this at 140 or 147lbs?
If it’s 147 Hatton doesn’t have the power to trouble a top welter.
Around the time of Mary Hinge, didn’t Julie Cecil also have Jo Blob ?
I’d love him to do that £1m* WBX challenge
