Yes, it was run on the round mile, which is very different in character to the dogleg Guineas mile.

Happy Jack, good luck with this project and thanks for taking it on.

Speed ratings aside, Sir Percy is a lucky horse in the sense that Horatio Nelson probably should have won the Dewhurst and in the Derby the only place SP won the race was on the line. A stride sooner or a stride later and he was beaten. Well done to Martin Dwyer for his perseverance and well done to the horse for his courage, but you could not be confident the result would be the same next time.

I agree with Gareth Flynn that 10f is going to be his best distance.

How shocking. My deepest sympathy to family and friends.

Goodwood is a very attractive spot but it certainly seems true that races there often feature horses rolling onto each other and worse. The track is not suitable for high class racing.

I think you have it about right there, Steve.

I too would expect Well Chief and Azerty to finish ahead of Newmill, other things being equal. Nevertheless Newmill was clearly superior last week to all who finished, so I wouldn’t be as negative about him as you.

I thought even though the other horse crossed the line first that I still stood a decent chance of collecting on GC. I was surprised there was no enquiry.

You can’t ‘play’ racing as a kid or with friends on a Sunday like you can with football and cricket. The only way we can take an active role is to watch it, read and listen to information on it, talk about it and bet on it to see whether or not our views hold water. I often feel that racing professionals fail to give this due weight…

The silly partisanship we Europeans indulge in is also quite amusing. Suddenly, the French are our close allies – they did after all prop up “ourâ€ÂÂ

I’m very sorry to hear this. As someone else has said, he was one of the favourites on here. May he rest in peace.

Kevin, I agree we should do something. Perhaps we should start a separate thread to discuss.<br>

Come on Aston and Hopper, the NV stable is looking for the exacta here. :)

I stand corrected, NV. My system was that bit too selective.

That is an interesting link you posted. I’ve only skimmed the article for now, but I will read it in detail.

Thanks again to all involved in organising this.

I think Captain Corelli was a runner and winner for me today at 4/1, but it’s academic now.

Good luck to all remaining competitors, and thanks to everyone who helped make it a nice bit of fun.

The results in general are surprisingly good, but I wouldn’t get too carried away. With current betting margins, a decent proportion of punters/systems/bets should win anyway on a purely random basis.

Not much chance of that, I’m afraid, now that Murphy’s suspended.

Sad to say, Sarasota doesn’t qualify (speed rating, not RPR, is the criterion if the ground is good) although Graffiti Tongue does. We wouldn’t want too much excitement in one day. :)

I came on here expecting the Azerty brigade to have switched to Well Chief for Cheltenham. Why not, the age and scope for improvement arguments apply to him even more than to the keyboard man?

But not a bit of it, Well Chief has hardly had a mention, Azerty is still the darling after rallying to regain second place, and apparently the Flyer can only win because he has the better jockey and prefers the track.

I suppose Moscow Flyer will be beaten by another chaser some day, that’s easy to forecast. But right now he is the best around and has been for some time.

What a double for Hawk Wing! The TRF Overrated Horse of the Year, and now the top spot in the International Classification.

Even in retirement the horse continues to intrigue, because both pros and antis can claim to be completely vindicated!

I think Rory has got it right, though. He did produce brilliance on his day, and that is what counts in the Classification. Whether it should be the sole criterion is another matter.
