Possibly. It would still take a good few years to get the firepower to challenge mullins from sourcing them to letting them mature to be able to challenge at cheltenham. I cant remember in my time dominance like this. Could well be a one off and if/when his dominance wanes the prizes will be spread around again.
Success breeds success in any field. Mcain and tizzard and the likes need to unearth a big winner or to get the ball rolling. Easier said than done.
The mullins domination will end sometime. Not for a while yet though. Hard to see anybody being so dominant in the future. Its not just money that brings success. Theres more to it than that. Mullins has whatever the magic ingredient is or systems in place that others dont. Henderson must be nearing his end as a trainer so one less opponent for mullins. Maybe somebody will do what amo is doing on the flat but as they are finding out its tough to break the stranglehold coolmore and godolphin have. Mullins has shown he is the man for the big ocassion so with the enormous sums being spent on nhunt horses mullins currently looks the best bet for wealthy owners looking for big cheltenham winners. The success the riccis have had this week will probably ensure willie getting top horses from them for the next few years at least.
Thats a very good summing up cork. I do feel for the likes of mcain and tizzard who have got the likes of henderson and skelton who get better horses snd struggle to compete in early season big races and then have the irish battalions to deal eith at cheltenham. Its like the difference between the premier league and the championship. Hard to say when things will change but mullins lost gigginstown horses and he just got more owners and probably even stronger when you consider the 3 big race winners were second strings. It all goes back to the buying of horses similar to scouts in football. Without the horses you cant compete at the top level. Plus mullins fantastic with the owners apparently. Maybe its cyclical and it wont go on for ever but cant see it changing much in the near future.
The worst tbing about the right at this time is how utterly incompetent they are on both sides of the pond. They are full of folk not fit for any public office but who are utter sychophants to their ridiculous mindsets. Much as i detested thatcher at least she was competent at her job. Starmer not a great pm but has been a steady hand especially in the last 2 weeks. Boring is perfect in these times. As for the right wing press. When was the last time a politician did something for the greater good. Answers on a postcard. Politicians look to win elections and now only watch the way the winds are blowing. You only need to see how the right have swung 360 degrees on the illegal war in iran. A million more 30 year olds staying with parents as they cant afford a house,begging on every high street at shocking levels,unemployment shooting up,wages falling behind prices at an alarming rate. Far bigger issues around than a fantastically looked after and loved horse passing away which sadly can happen at any time. God i hate the way society has become since i was a lad. Nobody gives a toss unless if affects them or their team. So wrong.
Not only mullins horses. Cromwell,de bromhead,nolan and meade all seem to have their horses primed for the big races at cheltenham. Elliot hit the bar a few times too. Are the british trainers subconsciously targeting the earlier season group ones where the irish trainers arent as focussed as cheltenham and accepting their fate this week. Just an observation.
Strange skelton will be top trainer without winning any big races. Kind of sums up where we are. The irish trained horses mop up most of the big races whereas the brits win the big handicaps. Cest la vie.
Until we know what caused the horse to collapse its pointless speculating what might happen. It wasnt a fiecely run race and envoi allen stayed out the back. No easy answers im afraid.
