It’s a discussion forum and of course Bonanza is entitled to an opinion. However, I don’t agree with that opinion and I feel a little sorry for people who manage to get ‘offended’ by such mild comments considering what else is happening around us and throughout the world. But these days the threshold for being offended seems to be in a race downward and everybody has to conform…….otherwise they’ll be offended.

“We’re supposedly here to discuss racing!”

There’s a clue in the topic heading, ITV RACING and I believe the presenters are all contributing to that program and subject to comment. These comments are with regard to their attire, others criticize Matt Chapman and his interview style. Is one allowed and the other not?

I don’t particularly care what Franny wears, but I do find her a little grating with her penchant to name drop at every opportunity.

I hate name droppers , in fact I was saying that to Ally McCoist when I was chatting with him on Fri night …

I was actually talking to Ally in Friday , he still reckons Arsenal will win the league , reckons PSG for Champions league ( he had a punt straight after last year’s final )

No need to feel sorry for me Griff, I’m not that type at all, nor some timid little ‘frightened of everything’ wallflower. I too despair at the ‘poor me’ way the human world is going.
And how humans are currently treating the world makes me sick to my stomach. Of course, it’s much more important than the trivialities spouted on here.
But I think how someone looks and dresses is the least important thing about them, and, on a forum that seems to be peopled (mostly) with decent people, it seemed inappropriate, to me, to be acting like schoolboys, perving over how women look and are dressed and comparing them. Which is how it came across to me. Just because it’s not a world war doesn’t make it ok.
People also criticise men on tv, but they haven’t put up with the abuse women have, forever. But neither is alright.
And yes, a couple of the responses were of the ‘calm down dear’ type.
I’m not easily offended, far from it, spend most of my time in male company. But I don’t post often and did because schoolboy banter doesn’t need to be on a shared forum. Could have been worse, I know, if there’d just been men here, or it was less public maybe. Trust me, I’ve heard plenty. I still think it should be called out. Someone ‘just having fun’ does not make it ok.
    And now I’m done.

I thought Kevin Blake has been a welcome addition to the team this weekend, it’s better when people know what they are actually talking about although I think Weaver is quite good as well.

I must admit though I’m a bit puzzled by Kevin’s stance on interference rules, he concentrated entirely on the British rules and how lacking they are but are the Irish rules significantly different?
And I wonder what he made of all the interference in the Kentucky Derby? It added to the excitement of the race for me and I’m not sure if any jockeys were suspended there.

It is a shame Kevin Blake isn’t a more regular fixture.

As an old fart brought up in very much tougher times the woke/anti woke to and fro bores me to tears. However i do agree where folk go ott it needs to be called out if only to nip it in the bud and stop the anti woke mob frothing at the mouth. I find both sides are as intolerant as each other and i so wish that dreaded common sense could come into play. So many folk think they are totally in the right but very few things in life are that black and white. I long for a time when we can have a consensus on how we expect each other to behave. Most live in their own echo chambers and dont let any other thoughts enter their thinking. Its truly depressing watching so many folk getting so angry over what in most cases is language and its use. My maxim is if someone behaves like an arsehole i ignore them and dont engage. Lifes much calmer that way. Imho.

Such sensible words, with which I completely agree.

I guess I just get so sick of the rubbish I have to put up with every day from men who think I’m there to ‘just have fun’ with that I get to the point where I want to stop it before it goes further, grows.

But yes, agree with everyhing you’ve so eloquently said.

Men just putting on a suit and job done isn’t quite true. A badly selected suit is not a great look, Matt Chapman looked like a dog’s dinner yesterday. Ed Chamberlain is normally a sharp dresser when it comes to suits but to be picky yesterday he wore a tie clip but had a waist coat on, these two are not generally worn together.

The more I know the less I understand.

Good to see ITV using the full screen SP graphic for the main meetings recently and always better when Richard Hoiles reads it out. :good:

Never understood why the main meeting used to get the inferior graphics.

....and you've got to look a long way back for anything else.

“yesterday he wore a tie clip but had a waist coat on, these two are not generally worn together”.
Really? Every day’s a school day!

Nice to see a bit of balance though. If people are just trying to look their best (even if it doesn’t quite work) who are we to criticize? If someone goes out of their way to attract attention, they can’t complain if they get it. It’s a fine line. Matt C seems to court (and, indeed, enjoy) ridicule about his costume of the day, yet comes in for far less comment than all the women on the show. I’m sure some of the female presenters feel pressured into trying to outdo each other costume-wise. Perhaps a “uniform” for men and women would put a stop to this nonsense and get them all to concentrate on the horses – ITV Racing T-Shirt?

I agree Tonge, and think Bonanzaboy and mickejp make some good points further up the thread too.

While almost everyone on ITV Racing comes in for regular critiques of their perceived poor performance, it’s much more likely that the women will also be criticised for their appearance.

Unless someone is clearly courting attention, I think people should be left alone to wear what they want.

Sorry to bring the debate down into Nathan territory but if they keep showing the gorgeous Anna Lisa Balding after yet another win I’m going to have to hope that her husband is abducted by aliens so i can step in to comfort her. :rose:

…. Isn’t something you’ll hear said by Jamie Spencer , anyone remember the winning interview done by Emma Spencer to Jamie after all that came out

Emma ” Well Jamie that looked easy ”

Jamie ” Certainly easier than talking to you ”

That’s why I leave marriage to other people ….
