Ol man river looked to me the most impressive 2yo last year and if he has trained on I will follow him as he is a lovely individual with a cracking pedigree. The early trials look like stables sizing each other up with no stand out run yet. Could this be the year we get a repeat of ruler of the world winning the Derby having not run at 2 . I’d wait until Obrien has run most of his top horses and then chester which usually gives a good barometer as to how ballydoyle is doing.

I was looking at the Irish two year old form last year and a few things stood out.
    1. Jamaica looks like having the same make up as magician and has similar form at this stage. Expect him to turn up at Chester where a good run in one of the trials could lead to him being a fancy for the derby.
2.Giovanni caneletto has the look of Australia about him. Well beaten on his first run he looks great in his maiden win and as they say could be anything. Will be interesting to see where he will go
    3. Mohaayed beat ciovanni by 6l on his second run so should be a horse to follow. The second from that maiden may run at Tipperary on Thursday so we could get a form guide there.
    4. Ol man river to me looked outstanding in his last run and his breeding suggests that he could be the best 10 12f horse at ballydoyle. doesn’t look like he’s guides bound so we will have to wait and see.
    5. Highland reel crused to victory at goodwood but looks more of a 10 to 12f horse than a miler. Would have thought ballydoyle would have dick Whittington as back up to gleneagles.
    6. Now that most of founds main rivals have either defected or are not certain to stay she looks a good bet in the 1000 guineas especially if together forever sets a good pace. Will be even better over the oaks distance and looks to me the horse to follow from ballydoyle.
As always we’re guessing as to how horse have progressed from two to three but the Irish trained horses seem to have a very strong hand in the big races. Leapordstown on Sunday then Newmarket will tell us where we are at.

The start of the flat is pretty ridiculous with very little time before we hit the classics then Chester and royal ascot. I don’t know how they rearrange the calendar but it’s just not right at the moment.

We will get an idea how the Obrien string is doing tomorrow when Easter and the racing post trophy forth,Jacobean run. There will be the now ritual gallop of the top horses after racing so we can see how the classic generation look. Aiden told kevin Blake on atr that the weather has been good at Tipperary and the string are fairly well forward. Maybe one of the reasons gleneagles has come in for so much support. Going heavy at the curragh so wouldn’t take the runnings as true indications of horses form. Ryan Moore riding aobs horses tomorrow which may give you an idea they are expecting good runs from their horses.

It’s a pity the 2000 guineas is run barely a month into the season when a number of the field haven’t made their 3yo debuts. Just makes it all the harder to pick the winner. Here’s hoping its a zafonic moment for young Joseph and not a long shot none but the lucky few picked.

Gleneagles does look an ideal guineas type and is sure to be in the frame. It would seem he is ballydoyles main hope for the guineas with highland reel and dick Whittington as back up. Ol man river and jfk will probably go straight to 10f before stepping up to the Derby trip. Unless someone dazzles in the greenham then gleneagles will be worthy favourite although how they have progressed from two to three needs to be taken on trust. The last week before the guineas will tell us how the market thinks horses are doing but until they run you can never tell.

As rishi said on the morning line, vatours run was the best round of jumping he had seen.took me back to Dessie and the likes it was that good. Just brilliant to watch. I hope he goes for the king George as I’m sure he’ll scoot that.
Dom poli was hugely impressive and with djakadam looks to give w Mullins a very strong hand for next years gold cup.
Finally Cole harden looked a worthy winner of the world hurdle and with question marks over a lot of his rivals looks to be a horse to follow.

I’d be very wary of bets at this time of year as there is a history of ballydoyle horses flying on the gallops in March but not measuring up to the task come the first week in May. What this does suggest is that Aiden is sorting out where he is planning to send his string. With 4/5 guineas and Derby types he will be looking to make plans as early as possible. Find it hard to believe highland reel won’t be in the guineas field and I will be backing him if he does indeed turn up. I’d wait to see how the ballydoyle horses are doing but the fact that there hasn’t been any sent to Dubai suggests coolmore are gearing up for a cracking season. Who their top guineas horse I doubt we will know for a few weeks despite all the money for gleneagles.

I must admit montjeus stock tend to be great athletes with little quirks and gallileos more robust and consistent.I love watching the likes of sna as they are such graceful movers. How sea the stars gets on at stud is anybodies guess but sometimes is not always the best of a generations who succeed at stud.Sadlers wells wasnt the top in his year but boy he was when it came to stud.As for godolphin i think their record in recent times is shocking with the money they have spent.Still breeding can be about chance so lets not be so critical but at the momemt ballydoyle is king and with more and more success for montjeu and galileos progeny it wont change anytime soon.

Nobody on this thread mentioned SNA to win.So he won two Group Ones this year. Montjue has two very good prospects for next years classics; Wading and Camelot. He won the Derby this year Will he do it again next year?

wading looks a fantastic prospect for next year and is the one i would back right now for the oaks.her easy defeat of pimpernel looks rock solid now and she looks the type to go on next year.who knows if camelot will go on next year but come april may time imsure well get the vibes whether he will be the next star from ballyboyle.some line up aiden obrien has for next seasons three year olds with wading and maybe for the fillies and camelot, wrote, crusade, daddy long legs and neprite for the colts.takes me back to vincent obrien around the time of caerleon sadlers well etc when he cleaned up the 3 year old division.

I have to say St Nicholas Abbey’s win was pretty sepcial. What a fantastic jockey and what a loss it will be when he gets too heavy. I’ve said before he reminds me of Piggott, not only in stature but also in the way he seems unflappable. He was shuffled back, didn’t panic. Clearly on the best horse but so easy to get things wrong in that arena.

I thought he reminded me of lester as well.Pity it might all finish for him on the flat but what a year he has had.seems sucha nice lad as well.Interesting hearing aiden saying how much his sons input is invaluable to him.maybe young joseph could be aidens successor in years to come.

I can see why people think he was being rude but as racing fans over here know he does this after every big win.it was just great to see just how much pleasure the obrien family got from the whole experience and also the joy the coolmore mafia showed. To me it was one of the greatest racing stories with young joey as the yanks called him showing maturity well beyond his years.also the horse winning so brilliantly and of course the trainer doing a brilliant job in getting him right for the big day.
I think in all the euphoria surrounding the race it has been overlooked what a horse st nick could be.that was as good a performance as any bar danedreams in the arc and hopefully he will be back next year but the temptation is there for him to go to stud.thanks aiden for making the breeders cup so memorable.just one thing though.Dont bother with the dirt and lets hope none of those who ran on it are any the worse.btw what a team of horses he has for next year.Cant wait already.
