Yeah I’m on him, he has travelled so well in his races and has a good kick. The only downfall would be the wide draw, but the danger New Bay is also out wide, so that should help.
Alain de Royer-Dupre has started 2015 really well with group 1 winners in particular.
Dolniya at Meydan, Ervedya in the French 1000 and hopefully this one can make his mark.
3/1 is an enticing price, any shorter and I would have left the race alone.

I wouldn’t have bet in this race but twist my arm and I’d have gone each way on Silverwave and laid Highland Reel to a place at the early odds.

Can’t help but think Golden Horn would have been a mighty short price had he lined up.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Liz is keen on Mexican Gold later on. Generally a 5/6-4/5 shot. Shrewd

Once again, New Bay ran a tremendous race with the apprentice Cheminaud onboard. He should have won our Guineas.
Good race from Highland Reel. Happy for him.

Decent run from Highland Reel and the French Guineas got a decent boost there, with Make Believe perhaps on track to give Gleneagles most to do now. The French middle distance types looked sadly lacking there Karaktar and Silverwave pretty poor really. Nothing there to help Epicuris’ form and he looks out of his depth going to Epsom.

I think Golden Horn would have destroyed those today. Uninspiring in my eyes.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

I think Make Believe would have had a say in that had he been there. I reckon Gleneagles is a piece better than Highland Reel, so O’Brien may not have been quaking in his Doctor Martens watching that one.

    Karaptar was poor there.

    Karaptar was poor there.

As expected by some. I couldn’t understand his price there before the start.
What do you think of Highland Reel in there? He looked better over this kind of trip. He looked keen in the Poule even before the race. I agree however with the general consensus which says that Aidan doesn’t seem to have the best 3-yo generation he has ever got.

Karaktar very disappointing, I didn’t see the race, but the form obviously didn’t stand up from his previous races. Any horse can look a great traveller against lesser opponents.
Fair play to Muthmir though, I couldn’t back him today, there was something nagging. Although, that should of been the same excuse for Karaktar.

Damn these group 1’s that have to be punted on!

Mexican Gold went off 3/5f but was only 4th. Not a great compliment to wonder mare Ervedya and I doubt Queens Jewel fans will have been bricking themselves watching that today.

    Liz’s five tips were 6th, 6th, 8th, 4th and 5th of 5 runners.

Tipping is hard though, but you do expect a little bit more from the experts.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Chapman wasn’t half getting his knickers in a twist regarding Deauville’s debut at Listowel today. The son of Galileo got off the mark first time up as 6/4f over 7f on Heavy ground and I thought they were going to have to hose Chappers down and blood test him for Viagra abuse in the aftermath.

Deauville may well be a decent sort but heavy ground maidens have been a source of many false dawns over the years and Chapman’s form check through Washington DC who had beaten today’s runner up into 4th of four, was a tad dubious, even without considering that one race was 5f on good to firm and the other 7f on heavy.

I remember Born To Sea winning a maiden for John Oxx and Chappers claiming the horse should be favourite for the 2000 Guineas. The horse never won again in 7 starts afterwards.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Matt was excited because of a form line with Washington, D.C. And round two. Looks very promising. The next outing will tell us more.

I realise that, I acknowledged it in my post. I also said it was highly spurious.

Washington DC beat Hoppala five and a half lengths on good to firm over 5f.

Deauville only beat Hoppala two lengths on heavy over 7f.

It is dangerous in my opinion comparing that form because of the different distances and extremely different going.

In any case, Washington DC won by the bigger margin of the two colts and he was put right in his place by Round Two, so I fail to see why Deauville becomes an instant superstar.

Yes, the horse will improve but we need to see how he will cope on faster ground. He hardly looked a Coventry type on that going and at that trip. Sometimes in these heavy ground 7f juvenile races this early in the season, very few of the young horses get home. I may be wrong but I don’t think there have been many over that trip for two year olds so far this season?

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

I didn’t know that Karaktar was injured half way round in this race, something wrong with the pelvis I read.
Connections are bullish about him and he will be interesting next time out. 33/1 for the arc but I will need to see him again before that.
