It’s still not nearly as boring as Coolmore’s domination of top level Irish (and, to a slightly lesser extent, English) flat racing. Nobody to blame. Still boring though.

Couldn’t agree more for me the Derby has become boring. Be the same at Chester this week.

The more I know the less I understand.

    Agreed, Tonge and RTB.

Stables used to be lucky to have “a Derby horse”; even greats like Vincent O’Brien, Henry Cecil, Michael Stoute and Dick Hern would consider themselves fortunate to have one genuine Epsom candidate a year.

Coolmore now have at least a dozen of them every season. Well done for their success, from a pure business perspective, but from a racegoer’s viewpoint it’s bloody boring.

Part of the issue was godolphins boycott of coolmore stock for years. That let coolmore get their hands on a good number of horses that godolphin didnt buy at auction. Plus the coolmore guys know their onions when it comes to breeding. Their purchase of wootton bassett didnt lokk an obvious one to make but boy has it paid off. In the short term but also very much in the long term with even more great outcrosses to their incredible band of galileo mares. Remember it was only a gentlemans agreement with juddmonte stooped them having frankel too. I dont find it boring as im just interested in seeing good horses, wherever they are trained.
Will be at chester where obrien doesnt seem to have as strong a team as the last 2 seasons. Btw watch out for causeway. Looks very much like paddington mk2 the way he is coming forward. By wootton bassett of course.

Mullins is a true genius , and appears to be a gent.I was at Caulfield about 10 years back , they were saddling Siminon in Herbert Power Stakes , he was happy to have a yarn with punters as they watched the horses saddle up and was relaxed and friendly , as is Chris Waller when it comes to chatting in saddling area .
As for Coolmore and Derby Trials I watch for the also rans to see who’s coming to OZ , Iam waiting on Swagman from last year to get out , at Waterhouse / Bott yard .
And Mr Waterville gets out over the sticks tomorrow
Few ex Ballydoyle in most weeks .

Just to throw my two cents in (and first post, no big deal) you can’t deny that Mullins is an excellent trainer but there is a pervasive aspect you can’t shake when you see trainers with multiple runners, particularly with sizeable fields.

A clear example was the Irish National where Mullins had 6 run and the majority of them fall or pull up.

Not saying that Mullins is the only guilty party (looking at you, Mr Elliott) but still.
