Seems like this did fall on deaf ears! Easy money.

I like each-way betting as insurance. Usually when I see an each-way shot with a place price similar or longer to the favourite or 2nd favourite (whom would be at generous odds at least!), it’s a definite saver.

Sorry Max – they covered only the opening two races of the Southwell card last night and I was utterly disappointed.

Not to mention he veered to the left about half the width of the straight in the Arc.

Hey! He’s your property now!

Plans can change overnight with trainers …

Paper this morning mentions that Greg Eurell (trainer of Apache Cat) looks like he will be dodging England altogether. Race in Sydney and then Brisbane, then spell and reappear in Japan for the Centaur Stakes and Sprinters Stakes.

The trainer doesn’t pay the travelling expeses the owner does Myles

Your point being … what? It’s Joe Janiak’s horse. He owns and trains it.

If I’m making no sense, then:

Champion sprinter Takeover Target’s planned trip to England could be scrapped if Apache Cat’s connections accept an offer to race at Royal Ascot mid-year.
Takeover Target’s trainer Joe Janiak said sending Takeover Target to England was becoming too costly and if Apache Cat’s connections accepted an invitation to compete in the northern hemisphere it could force him to stay in Australia.

Trainer Greg Eurell has said a Royal Ascot campaign, taking in the Group One King’s Stand and Group One Golden Jubilee Stakes, remained an option for Apache Cat following his victories at the elite level in the Lightning Stakes (1000m) at Flemington and Australian Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley this month.

"The trip to England is up in the air at the moment until we know what they are doing with Apache Cat," Janiak said.

"Apache Cat is the horse they want in England and if he goes then he’ll get most of the travelling expenses and it will affect our subsidy from the English authorities.

"We got 35,000 pounds sterling ($A74,168) the first year with Takeover Target then it was cut back to 20,000 ($A42,382) last year.

"If we go with Takeover Target this year we’ll be there for 10 weeks this time because the July Cup at Newmarket has been included in the Global Sprint Challenge this year.

"It means our expenses are going to be much more this time."

Janiak said a trip to Singapore for the 1200-metre International Sprint on May 18 was also not certain.

"If we go to England we’d like to go to Singapore on the way through," he said.

"But if we don’t go to England then I’ll probably keep him home and set him for the Brisbane winter carnival races."

Takeover Target won the King’s Stand Stakes (1006m) at Royal Ascot when it was a Group Two race in 2006 before finishing third in the Group One Golden Jubilee (1200m) the same year.

The veteran sprinter returned last year when he ran fourth in the King’s Stand and second in the Golden Jubilee.

Takeover Target has put on 35 kilograms and weighed 535 kilos when he returned to work in Canberra last week following a short break after losing on protest in the Group Two Villiers Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on January 5.

"He normally weighs between 500 and 515 kilos but he packed it on during his time out," Janiak said.

Janiak decided to bypass the Melbourne autumn carnival this year with Takeover Target who is set to make his comeback in the Group One TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on April 26.

The five-time Group One winner will back up a week later in the Group One All-Aged Stakes (1400m) at Randwick before heading to Brisbane to defend his crown in the Group One Doomben 10,000 (1350m) on May 24.

Janiak refused to rule out Takeover Target staying on in Brisbane for the Group One Stradbroke Hcp (1400m) at Eagle Farm in June depending on his decision whether to return with Takeover Target for his third England trip.

He’s not a rich man, Mike. He cannot afford the $30,000 it takes to … well, let me rephrase … he can afford the $30,000 it takes for the flights but Joe Janiak has a small stable and Takeover Target is the only horse who puts food on the table.

Not forgetting – later today is the third last meeting of the Dubai International Racing Carnival, with the feature being the Group 2 Al Fahidi Fort over a mile on turf.

The rail has been pushed out on the turf course so fields are limited to 10 runners.

The undercard includes a very strong 10f dirt race priot to the Al Fahidi Fort, the Zawaj Handicap. Jalil, who won in a track record last start, is setting hopes on improving his current form to a quality that may penetrate into the Dubai World Cup.

Linngari is set for three Al Fahidi Forts in a row tonight. He carries the weight penalty to 60kg but is holding winning form. Lord Admiral aims for back-to-back wins and we see the reappearance of former John Oxx colt Danak. Archipenko would need to improve a fair deal after his disappointment last start for Mike de Kock.

Curlin has landed on the Nad Al Sheba sand for the first morning in preparations for his Dubai World Cup and prep.

The muscle definition is mind-blowing in this fellow.

Wonder if the same bumper-to-bumper forum is matched in the flat season? There tends to be a huge mass of jumping fanatics here.

I think the only excuses ever made were by the hapless dog impersonator himself weren’t they?

He tried to blame the horse for "going to sleep" and then he "couldn’t get the bugger" awake again until it was too late.

    W**ker!

My old man lost a fortune that day and was not happy.

At what distance was "too late"? Tattenham Corner?

He finished the race in 22 and change, 10.8 final furlong. Half a furlong more and Shahrastani was seeing bum.

Why such a cheesy and corny broadcast? 25 years into the future, we will look 25 years back on a Derby broadcast and it will certainly not be like 1965.

Sea-Bird II was quite edgy and alert to the task. It looked like he was the only one on his toes compared to the rest.

May he be the greatest horse to have ever raced in modern time.

Interesting theory that I would never expect to be executed in racing!

When an AFL club (AFL = Australian Football’s elite league) loses their coach mid-season and is replaced by an interim one, they usually turn out winning for his first game, against all the odds.

Simple Jim paid a handsome 7-1 for the place last week down under. Our tote works strangely so when there are very small pools you get all sorts of wacky prices. Simple Jim was 11-2 for the win. 8)

    Southwell again tomorrow?

I for one certainly don’t believe Reference Point was under-rated. But when one speaks his name in the same breath of Nijinsky, Nashwan, Dancing Brave …

Dancing Brave was an incredible creation of God. To have a jaw-dropping sprint like he did at the end of a staying 2400m – something that the best 6 furlong horses of the time would even crave – was simply a rare case of a mistake in the cells.

Hugs and kisses to you Alderbrook. Cheers mate!

It’ll help because this Saturday is the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes, Australia’s second/third biggest juvenile race. And I’ll be in the paddock, too!

I was pretty sure that was what you meant – but had to confirm.

Encosta De Lago should be in the RP’s list, seeing as though he had a stint in Ireland.

Encosta De Lago was a sprinter/miler.

One World won races at 900m – 1200m. She was by Danehill. Her dam, Prawn Cocktail, was unraced but a half-sister to Royal Academy and Terlingua (dam of Storm Cat).

We are halfway into the season and Lone Wolf has not been released onto the racetrack yet. I assume that he has plenty of filling out to do after reading his bloodlines.
