Encosta De Lago had a stint in Ireland as a Coolmore shuttle but has returned to Australia. Incredibly … it was his return to Australia which brought the EI virus to our country!

Redoute’s Choice is probably the leading sire in Oz at this moment. However he is with Arrowfield Stud and wouldn’t expect him to leave for shuttle services anytime soon.

If you’re looking for a stallion to replace Danehill, then this past Saturday in Melbourne may deliver some answers. EXCEED AND EXCEL, a Group 1 winner and 7 furlong track record holder at Flemington sired both the winners of the Blue Diamond Stakes Preludes, one for C&G and the other for fillies. This is the leading juvenile race in Melbourne, and the second best juvenile race in Australia behind the Golden Slipper.

Wilander, a 2YO colt by Exceed And Excel and a half-brother to MAGNUS won the C&G race easily by 2 1/2 lengths from another horse who is by Exceed And Excel also.

Believe ‘n’ Succeed won the fillies easily as well from Sugar Babe, both by Exceed And Excel.

Choisir has not made any impact in Australia at this stage.

    Charlie D,

Is there a thread about the Dubai International Racing Carnival? I’m a little surprised that I cannot find one. Mick Channon’s first mounts were saddled up last week and John Balding saddled the first British winner on Friday night.

When does the British flat season begin? Last week of March?

You have to realise something Gingertipster – the blood of the Foundation Sires can still be traced to a majority of horses in Europe whilst it is completely phased out in Australia. All our horses are simply bred for speed, speed, speed. Nothing else. It is why the Americans win the Dubai Golden Shaheen, and Australians win the King’s Stand/Golden Jubilee.

I am pretty sure that the first sire of horses in Australia, a South African import by the name of Rockingham, had quarter-horse blood in him. That’s not to say he did not have European blood either (he was of the Euro origin first).

The amount of steroids given to the Australian sprinters on their kangaroo route over to England are a particular type (I wish I knew the name) which are flushed out of the system pretty quickly post-flight. The drugs found in Takeover Target’s body which ruled him out of the Hong Kong Sprint are now banned in Australia as of February 1.

There are too many to mention. Hey – I have Giant’s Causeway and Rock Of Gibraltar (Sussex Stks), Sinndar (Arc), Dancing Brave (Arc) on my wall. Dubai Millennium (QEII) to come.

Is that the qualification? If so – pretty sure he did not win the Champion Hurdle. Scratch that!
