Did Crisp win the Champion Hurdle?
Value Is EverythingFebruary 11, 2008 at 00:54 #142105Is that the qualification? If so – pretty sure he did not win the Champion Hurdle. Scratch that!
February 11, 2008 at 05:21 #142148Crisp (Australia) was a high class chaser here in the UK Myles and probably the best horse along with L’Escargot and Golden Miller ever to run in the Grand National.
Unfortunately the combination of a massive weight and a panick stricken Richard Pitman better described as a sack of potatoes,he was caught on the line by Red Rum.
As good as he was the Champion Hurdle wouldn’t have been for him but he did win the 2 mile Queen Mother Champion Chase ridden by Paul Kellaway at the Cheltenham Festival and was the best 2 mile Chaser around at the time.
You can see the finish of the race involving Crisp and Red Rum here
February 11, 2008 at 09:39 #142175I was going to join in FOF but you’ve already announced the free tip that will be given to the overall winner so I don’t need to bother now

£950 win
and a SF with night nurse for a sporting bullseye
February 11, 2008 at 11:26 #142200Unfortunately Mick the ruling on the money being imaginary only applied until the race result came in………sorry excellent try but you were beaten a length and no refund for you….the boys and I are going out for a bevy with your 950 quid and it will be gone by morning

I would run a similar thread with a book for the gold cup but would have to do it without Arkle………then everyone would lump on to Kauto Star as I am slightly biased against the horse……….would be interesting to know what people think was the best Gold Cup winner since Arkle without KS though………..Personaaly I would be hard pushed to separate L’Escargot Captain Chrsitie and Burrough Hill Lad
February 11, 2008 at 13:09 #142232I must be the only person who has ever backed a horse after it has lost

still once kauto shows denman who is boss, maybe channel 4 or at the races or someone could do a replica of the marciano vs ali superfight with kauto against arkle, could come under strong critisism here but i think it would be intresting, not going to say who i think would win because I have only ever seen a few of arkles races, i just hope when i go to cheltenham in 40 years time kauto has a race named after him

nice article
