Presumably he was talking about any race outside of Group 1 level?

Unless he gets demoted from 1st position isn’t any financial penalty virtually irrelevant in these rules?

I recall a race at Down Royal a couple of years ago when the course commentator noted the final hurdle pile up as a ”fun filled finish”. I dont think any jockeys or horses were injured thankfully. I personally dislike too much opinion in a commentary and prefer the racing do the talking. On that score the Irish commentaries are generally excellent.

Listen, absolutely, this horse has alot of class. You could go down in trip with him or you could step him up.

    Q)

Could he go for the velka pedubka?

    Ans)

Ah,sure listen all those races are possible, sure he has a lot of class, you could do anything with him

    Q)

could he run in the july cup?

    Ans)

he stays well, but listen, he also has a lot of speed too, he can cruise, we’ll just have to get home and talk about where we want to go next with him in the future, all those races are possibles at this stage

    Q)

Do you think he will come on for the run

    Ans)

Ah sure naturally thats what you would be hoping for, that each run would bring them on a bit more and they’d go on from there, we didn’t do much with him at home after X and listen you’d expect him to have a blow afterwards, sure listen we’ll go home and go from there.

I’m aware there are occasions when a trainer might come out with the odd nugget but the form book and video analysis rewards you so much more than listening to garbage like what they often come out with in my opinion

You’re right, that is a pretty miserable thing to say Canford.

It would have been a terrible reverse for the guy to have follow him around if he had been beaten.

Very talented rider and great performance but what a plonker.

Stand up, take your clothes off, whip your backside….whatever you like AFTER THE LINE. To start celebrating before the race is won is complete and total lunacy.

When you get to understand sectionals, which I have used on UK racing since the 1980s then you will realise that rail movements and course geometry differences are what make sectionals even more important, not less.

Do you record sectionals for all courses Robert ?

I’d imagine it must be near impossible in certain instances to attain an acceptable level of accuracy when recording the data. For example Newmarket where the camera may change or zoom in/out making it difficult to gauge location of furlong markers or other consistant reference points at critical points on the track.

When discussing racing or betting with friends who follow other sports they are genuinely surprised that data such as weighing of horses or sectionals are not available as standard for UK/Irish racing.
The casual racing fan may not use or fully understand this information if introduced, but it does nothing for racings profile to not at least appear to take an interest in looking like a forward thinking sport.
In an age where every other major sporting event is or can be analysed in detail relatively easily it makes little sense for racing to shoot itself in the foot by making it so cumbersome for members of the public to develop an interest in the sport.

Does anyone know when he began trading currencies and started to base himself in Geneva?

An impressive progression to make from being a gambler/bookie to placing trades of ”bank size” (if the articles about him are accurate)

It’s also interesting how his brother, although successful in his own right, has never had anywhere near the same level of success as a bookmaker that JP did

An interesting development today, personally I didnt see it coming really, although I’ve been told something was off for a while as was also mentioned earlier on the thread too.

Heffernan and C O’Donoghue are both capable jockeys and could be a good option to share the top rides for the stable now.

I stand by my previous post of there only being a finite number of top jockeys that can ride to an international Group 1 level, Garret Gomez could also be added to that list.
I disagree strongly with the previous posters putting up Smullen,Fran Berry and Ahern in that class, maybe less so about Soumillon who has done well in Hong Kong previously as well as France and England, even if he does seem like a bit of an airhead.

Timeform radio is easily the best of the ”radio” type racing medias that give a race commentary service, but is still no substitute for being able to see a race with your own eyes

From a betting perspective there may be a laying system here using a degree of selectivity. The experts generally preview every race at every track in the UK, and give a tip in more or less all of these races, selecting maybe 2/3 main bets an afternoon. A huge task.

The obvious question is, if these experts can show a +ve ROI why are they still working for the man ? and how can you profit from laying their tips when they are forced to tip like an action junkie in a radio studio?

    Agreed, also.

I have hardly watched any "Channel: 4" racing this "flat season" due to the presenter.

Rather, just listen on "Timeform Radio".

    Regards

Why listen to Timeform Radio at all if you have pictures/video feed for the races?

Much of the analysis given by the pesenters on Ch4/RUK or otherwise is stuff anybody with working eyesight can see anyway. Personally I find the coverage by Gary O’Brien on ATR, or RTE racing far easier viewing.

Sorry to go off topic from the original post btw.
I have just had a MASSIVE argument with somebody about whether The Cat was dating ES or not

Buick will surely become one of the top riders on the planet if he continues as he is going, but possibly a more likely successor to Frankie at Godolphin.

I am still strongly inclined to believe this ”Murtagh – O’Brien Split shocker!” is total BS.

There are only a finite number of really top, adaptable jockeys out there that can ride a number of run styles to a world class level Moore,Murtagh,Lemaire,Dettori,Leparoux…Fallon maybe…

Are you off your rocker Andyod ??? Cathy Gannon?

I don’t know why Pat Keane wrote that article, he says nothing in it and at the same time gives out a vibe that there might be unrest in the camp

Murtagh only ever rode out a couple of mornings a week at Ballydoyle at any given time from what I understand, but maybe someone here knows more ?
There has abeen no discernible ”rift” evident in the paddock between O’Brien (or the owners) and Murtagh by most accounts. He is a top rider, still young enough to go on for several more years

As for that wild card Aidan O’Brien…..Kinane was shipped out for Spencer, who simply didn’t have the mental skills for the job at the time, and Fallons job had become untenable

the pace maker stuffed it up and didn’t go fast enough.

That is emphatically NOT what the sectionals tell you.

where are these sectionals ? I didn’t know this data was available .

They’re not available. You have to time them yourself.

Who was the pacemaker in the first quote supposed to be ?

I agree with the post by Fist, not to make light of winning 9mill or to talk Findley down in any way, but you would think this guy was won of the biggest gamblers in the world the way the press write about him.

A lot of successful gamblers have bet 3/4 sports and been net losers on maybe 2 of them and still been huge winners overall, there is nothing in that article, no offence to the original poster intended

Like most ballyoyle products the website will improve with a couple of outings.

Don’t count on it.There is only one reason why updates on O’Briens website were transfered to the Coolmore site – censorship.

Does anyone have figures for what the overall betfair turnover and tote turnover was on the Irish guineas last year or over the previous few years.

They dont seem to be listed online

Agree with positive remarks about Sariskas running, seemed to totally blow her start or maybe just too slow early? I didn’t really catch it

Fallon is like a dog, the guy just never seems to give up
Not a jock that I like to take on with a lay bet too often I’ve got to admit
