He had 2 other foals born that died shortly after birth, and one mare that slipped her foal, that I know of.
Thanks for that – bad percentage return on what he did manage. Shame. For the mare owners too.
They are one of the few ‘fat burning’ foods. Takes more calorific effort to digest them than they are worth.
These factories are still there and they are off-limits to visitors.
Why?
A little surprised she didn’t go for more. Obviously will depend on how she develops, but if they are going to keep her with the longer term view to sell the offspring, I would race her if she had a modicum of talent. Nothing to lose really.
Can I ask, I read somewhere that GW had six foals or was it six mares in foal? If she is the only offspring, do I understand it correctly that the other 5 aborted or the foals died shortly after birth?I don’t think he would stay although perfectly capable of winning a Gold Cup, and I hope he does next March. I also think the Aintree fences would be too unforgiving, despite recent modifications, if he made a mistake such as today, and I would hate to see him hurt. I’d like to know what Ruby Walsh’s opinion would be on an entry for him, just out of interest.
The numbers show the sequence in which horses will be eliminated from the race if the number of declarations exceed the maximum permitted field size.
So if the safety limit is 14 and the number of entries is 25, there will be horses with elimination numbers from 1 to 11.
The lowest numbers are eliminated first, so number 1 would be the first to go, then number 2 and so on until the number of runners is reduced to the allowed maximum.
The elimination sequence is based on weights in a handicap, lowest weight goes first – in a maiden the number 1 goes to the horse with the most previous unplaced runs.
They are published so that trainers can estimate their chances of getting a run.
Thanks ap.
The stallion parade is the highlight tomorrow, which just about sums the day up.
A Russian ‘soldier’ involved in the massacre of some 22,000 Polish officers, each shot in the back of the head, speaking in 1991, spoke of the emotional turmoil to his comrades involved in the executions………yes I know the argument is that they were following orders, but it was only 60 years ago? And obvioulsy that was just one example from the war. Makes it very hard to have any faith in humanity at all. Just total insanity.
I’d read about this before, am pretty sure that historically the russians absolutely hate the polish
.
Yes at one point in the documentary it said this was because of a conflict in the 1920s when the Polish had inflicted a heavy defeat on the Russians. It also said that Hitler planned all along to invade Russia and he was just keeping Stalin on side until he defeated the British. When he realised that wasn’t happening, he decided he had to move against the eastern front.
I know the Allies were well aware of what was going on, or at least the majority of what was going on, long before war started, but as today so called civilised countries choose to do nothing, or admit to nothing going on, down to whatever circumstances they use as a reason/excuse not to.
This drama documentary is continuing on Sunday I think and worth watching if interested.Have just watched a recording of this mornings events – how moving.
I don’t think I’ll ever forget the one who tried to lay the wreath himself – what a great guy?
Yes werern’t they all, and that they each represented one of the three armed forces?
Watched a documentary taped from the weekend about the Hitler/Stalin pact at the beginning of WW2 and the consequences for Poland, and just seemed to illustrate that they were both totally insane and why didn’t anyone stop them before they got so far? A Russian ‘soldier’ involved in the massacre of some 22,000 Polish officers, each shot in the back of the head, speaking in 1991, spoke of the emotional turmoil to his comrades involved in the executions………yes I know the argument is that they were following orders, but it was only 60 years ago? And obvioulsy that was just one example from the war. Makes it very hard to have any faith in humanity at all. Just total insanity.
Well that’s clever as it is under Big Race Entries on the SL sort………………….
Someone said it would be today and the sportinglife have some news on the weights but I can’t actually see the weights either on the SP or RP sites. I know Barbers Shop has 10:6.

There are some given in the comments here but if I try to click on
‘click here for advanced Paddy Power Racecard’, just above the story, it doesn’t appear to work? Will look forward to see how offspring from both Millenary and Let The Lion Roar get on. Millenary was one of the best looking horses I have ever seen and tough and as sound as old boots.
To be honest LD, because of the smear program in the UK for over 25’s and also Dave Jays only redeeming factual point, IMO,(possible need for boosters) the program might not be cost effective to extend the age of vaccinations.
However as you assert this doesn’t mean it wouldn’t be preferable.I read somewhere the vaccines have been proven to have benefit in women upto their mid 40’s. Also I think i’m right in saying that both vaccines are licenced in the EU for women upto 26. I’m sure your GP could give more info and even arrange the vaccine privately.
Thanks Roland, I will ask next time I can get an appointment – you have to know you are going to be sick at least 3 weeks in advance at my practice to get one.
It could be argued that the smear programme would not be necessary if this vaccine works. Or at least less regular tests be needed therefore at least this would offset the cost of the vaccine? My GP told me some 5 years ago that I don’t need smears and I am over 25, but under the age of the top range that it is deemed affective up to. (I’m not a nun either!) Makes one wonder if that conversation was a cost cutting exercise….He’s a handsome devil isn’t he? Thought he responded well when asked to stride out, but looked maybe as if he wasn’t that suited by the going? Back in one piece and that’s the main thing.
No doubt the cost to the NHS.
Gardasil is licensed for use in the UK and is available in private clinics and Cervarix, a vaccine produced by GlaxoSmithKline, was close to approval, may even be so by now.
The Joint Committee on Vaccination will have to chose between the two in a decision which will make the successful company millions of pounds for years to come.
There is a helpline on 0845-602-3303.
Thanks SD.
Cost of a vaccine is how much as against the cost of treatment, possibly for years? Ignoring the potential trauma of going through the treatment, surely the chance of prevention is better/preferable/more cost effective than trying to cure?
Older women upto about 45 will be protected too, although only against those strains of HPV to which they have not yet been exposed.
So why are GPs not offering it?
I didn’t recognise Kauto Star in the noseband! People use a sheepskin noseband for a variety of reasons. One is to enhance the horses looks.Another is to be able to identify them, particularly in large fields and Richard Pitman keeps on insisting it’s to get a horse to look down. What ever the reason for it, it certainly didn’t do any harm.
He was on a hiding to nothing but he’s done all that’s been expected, anb very nicely.
I was told nosebands are applied to help a horse ‘keep his head down’ ie makes him look down towards it rather than hold his head high/up. Supposed to help concentration.
