when I started to get seriously into racing and knew even less about it than I do now I saw a race where Dublin Flyer beat one other horse by a country mile, and that made me realise more about the difference between a horse and a really good horse than if I’d seen a truly competitive race with a three way photo finish…..I was thinking of that race yesterday when I watched Kauto Star and was suitably impressed…
November 3, 2008 at 00:06 #187631I thought it was just what they wanted – a clear round and he wasn’t tested and looked like he was enjoying himself. No mistakes was a confidence boost he needed, if that’s what they think he needed. I just hope that come March he hasn’t had a hard season, Ruby rides him closer to the action and it’s a race up the hill. I still think he can take Denman and hope he gets the chance to try being 100%.

One is to enhance the horses looks.Another is to be able to identify them, particularly in large fields and Richard Pitman keeps on insisting it’s to get a horse to look down. What ever the reason for it, it certainly didn’t do any harm.
He was on a hiding to nothing but he’s done all that’s been expected, anb very nicely.

I was told nosebands are applied to help a horse ‘keep his head down’ ie makes him look down towards it rather than hold his head high/up. Supposed to help concentration.
November 3, 2008 at 13:40 #187697Sounds about right LD. Paul Nicholls, interviewed after the race, stated the noseband had been to help the horse concentrate.
November 3, 2008 at 17:24 #187724The quality of the field didnt help and to be honest, The Listener didnt exactly put in a great round of jumping.
However, Kauto Star –
Ran well
Jumped well
Won on the bridle
Got a first run into him.No more, no less.
Connections will be pleased, but i dont think it will suddenly put him back on a pedestal where Denman has got to knock him off again, it’s still the other way round in my opinion.
He didnt beat a great deal, but what he had to do, he did it well.
