Sorry to hear about your current ailment Nathan. Isn’t that caused as a result of living the high life? I seem to recall from school history days mention of gout as a condition of the upper classes due to excesses of fine wine and food. Anyway, here’s hoping on a speedy recovery for you.
Ken
Footnote(no pun intended): Due to this shocking news, Nathan’s odds have drifted like a barge and are now a massive 200/1.
My gallops watcher has been sacked for wrongly identifying Merve the Swerve though the latter’s odds remain unchanged because he’s renowned for being lazy in his work.April 13, 2010 at 05:36 in reply to: TRF Quiz Night & Daylight Cup Last 16 Draw – Wednesday 8pm #290006….and for anyone interested in calling the odds these are their current standings in Bob’s Competition:-

KenChis….Zebedee cruised home. Hannon’s 2year olds firing.
Chis, If you just saw how Cape to Rio won, you’d more than understand. Thanks for putting me on it at a nice 8/1.
KenJust kiddin’ TAPK. Now you’ve revealed its identity in full I’m going to lose all the value when the rest of the forum pile in.
See ya later. The answer’s in the name Chiso…..it’s going to spring into action today. Get on the Magic Roundabout with your herbal remedies.
Yes ATPK I see it. The Vi…KING! Any relation? You Royals get everywhere.
p.s. Thanks for the tip…schh! I’ll lump on.
..and to top it all he’s had a poor season. Almost as bad as when that ex-pop star who did the Iceland ads and had thousands of pounds of gemstones stolen by hooded robbers. Perhaps it’s the same gang.
I can assure you that I was not under the influence, TAPK and Chisel, though having said that, at present I am cultivating some basil and mint on my kitchen window sill.
Thinks to himself…must look to see if there’s anything running today with the name of basil or mint…..having now looked, oh gosh, how about this for a coincidence? MINTaka Pass and another one called Basle. And something else called Make My Dream.
Spooky or what? Can only guess that Silvoir’s either very busy or on holiday because I was puzzled by his apparent absence from the forum during Cheltenham and since. It’s to be hoped he’s in good health.
My very point APK ! All the signs were there…odds too generous and competition not up to scratch.
However, I’ll defer to your greater wisdom…though I still think an expert could have spotted something in the parade ring.
Cheers
KI’m puzzled by many of the comments on here that point toward either the ride or the trainer’s intention to win the race.
And yet, on this very same forum we’ve seen numerous complaints about delays in getting horses into the parade ring in order to be able to give them the once over and assess their fitness.
I was under the impression that only by seeing a horse in the flesh can you properly determine its condition and yet how many of the members upset about yesterday’s performance took the horse’s appearance into account, in which case you can hardly judge whether it ran as well as could be expected, can you?
O’Brien’s pre-race comments would have told me more than enough to know that it was a huge lay. You need to read between the lines of trainer’s comments and look for the clues and emphasis on certain words. For me, the word "hope" would have been a big negative.Moehat, apologies not necessary. You were right and I was sort of wrong. Yet again, I just misinterpreted (subconsciously on purpose, perhaps) someone’s post. I must not tell lies….I must not tell lies….I must not tell lies……. X 100 and wearing my Dunces hat.
KI can picture you now, Gingertipster. You’re surrounded by filing cabinets full of index trays and little white cards showing every forum members’ previous quotes.
Scenario in the Ginger household with Mark talking to himself:
"What’s that Ken’s just written? I must have a quote from him somewhere contradicting himself. Let me think. I know, it’s in filing cabinet six, file two, folder seven. Yes, spot on Ginger, I’ve found it – he wrote that six years ago. See I’ve got him now, he can’t argue with that. Must write that in my diary – ‘today I got one over on Ken’."God loves a trier Ginger and nobody could accuse you of not trying, could they?
Dear, dear, Mark aka Gingertipster,
Please do not take my comments seriously. Your opinion on horseracing is probably far more valid than anything I know. I just like to play devil’s advocate sometimes or give an alternative/abstract view. The forum for me is just somewhere to interact with fellow racing enthusiasts. I leave the senior members to proffer the serious debates. I know your heart’s in the right place as far as the horses are concerned and in my book that’s all that matters. So, yes, I am sorry if I’ve offended or misrepresented you at some point but no harm was intended.
Of course, I respect your opinions. In fact whenever I decide to have a bet I always pause first and think to myself "What would Ginger do in this situation?"
Cheers
K…and watch him get a treble this afternoon, hangover or not.
Moehat wrote…someone on the forum putting the welfare of the horses first and foremost.
Sorry, Moehat, but I tend to disagree with your inference that not all TRF members are primarily concerned about the welfare and well-being of the horses, to the same extent as Gingertipster.
Why many posters disagreed with Gingertipster was twofold:-
Firstly, he singled out a particular horse to condemn by accusing it of causing the death of a fellow-horse when logic suggests that there are so many variables during the course of a race that to single out one particular act/ommision for influencing subsequent events is a somewhat blinkered and, dare I say, naieve statement to make. What happened was the culmination of a whole series of happenings and not just a single moment, seen in isolation.
Secondly, Gingertipster’s argument and solution for determining which horses should be excluded from participating in the National is based on the false premise that a field consisting entirely of so-called ‘good’ jumpers will incur less casualties. It is, and always will be, one of life’s unpredictables.
