On Friday night, in those few moments before falling asleep the name of Oscar Bay ran through my thoughts. I had not seen the following day’s racecards.
It was only as I was watching Channel 4 and the names of the horses were scrolling down that I suddenly realised that the name Oscar Bay had been on my mind the night before. I did prefer another horse in the race but before placing a bet I decided to go with Oscar Bay instead, just on the basis that the earlier thought might have been significant. And so it proved.
But my question is this. Amongst the thousands of horse names, what prompted my thought processes to come up with Oscar Bay and no other the night before? Is there something out there that we don’t know and can it be tapped into at will?April 11, 2010 at 11:56 #289613You been smokin a spliff Kenneth?
April 11, 2010 at 11:59 #289614You entered the Twilight Zone!!
Wish I dreamed winners!!
April 11, 2010 at 20:16 #289710It’s strange but years ago I woke up with the song matchstalk men and matchstalk cats and dogs playing in my head. When I looked at the racing later that day there was a horse running at Newmarket called L S Lowry. I’m not really a believer in dreams or the stars etc but I backed it and it won. I assume I must have seen the name in the entries but I didn’t consciously remember seeing it. Even if it was coincidence I wasn’t complaining.
Sadly it hasn’t happened to me again since
April 11, 2010 at 23:00 #289761The law of coincidence.
The biggest coincidence would be if there were no coincidences.
With all of a person’s thoughts during his / her life; everyone is bound to have this type of coincidence happen a few times in their life.
I was doing some tidying up and came accross a Jehova’s Witnesses leaflet. As I picked it up there was a knock on the door. Guess who?
It did not make me suddenly find god.
Value Is EverythingApril 12, 2010 at 10:00 #289813Ginge,these "Jovo"s always turn up in two"s or three"s,i always let them fire off their spiel on doom and gloom and how they are so convinced that they know everything about whats going to happen in the future! After 10 mins of flicking through "Watchtower" and all the colourful pictures i pull my Racing Post out and say "Whats going to win the 3 o clock at Haydock then"? I always send them off with a loser!

I had a similar but far more vivid "moment of clarity" about two years ago. We were having a few drinks and chatting about a runner at the next day’s meeting. I was dozing off at the kitchen table about 1am when suddenly from nowhere an image entered my mind showing the horse in a tight two way photo for first. I wasn’t sure if it had run first or second.
I told the owner what I’d "seen" on the long drive to the meeting the following morning. Sure enough the horse in question ( 7/1 ) came from the clouds after racing near the tail throughout and got up right on the line in the closest of finishes.
Yes, during that drinking session I did inhale another substance. I’ve tried hard to repeat the performance since – all to no avail. What about you Ken?
April 12, 2010 at 11:40 #289831I can assure you that I was not under the influence, TAPK and Chisel, though having said that, at present I am cultivating some basil and mint on my kitchen window sill.
Thinks to himself…must look to see if there’s anything running today with the name of basil or mint…..having now looked, oh gosh, how about this for a coincidence? MINTaka Pass and another one called Basle. And something else called Make My Dream.

Ok I’ve got some Thyme and Rosemary on the boil but they cannot explain to me why a first starter with three crippled middle distance/stayer siblings is even money in a 5f 2yo race at Windsor. Yes I know Hannon trains it.
April 12, 2010 at 12:37 #289847The answer’s in the name Chiso…..it’s going to spring into action today. Get on the Magic Roundabout with your herbal remedies.

See ya later.April 12, 2010 at 13:04 #289853Chis, If you just saw how Cape to Rio won, you’d more than understand. Thanks for putting me on it at a nice 8/1.
