Hi Paul,
I was just wondering whether the decisions(?) to allow the ground to dry out to effectively "genuinely Good" ground at both Cheltenham and Aintree, (when I thought it was the policy to have the going on the easy side of Good,) was brought about by it being concluded that Good ground was no more unsafer than Good to Soft ground?
Apologies for English.
Anyone want to piggyback any other questions onto this thread?

April 12, 2010 at 08:54 #289795I"m still interested to know what the outcome of the "Arcalis affair" was, when Denis weighed in 3lb heavier than when he weighed out!I cant work that one out!
April 12, 2010 at 09:19 #289800The unofficial policy is to extract as much levy as possible from the ever dwindling number of levy payers by producing ground that is the opposite to the ground that has been raced on for the previous 6 months, thus rendering the formbook almost obsolete much of the time.
The opposite will happen during the coming flat season where there will be no shortage of water applied to flat racecourses this summer.
Richard Linley will be on to justify that watering on safety grounds. He’s curiously quiet on the same issue when it pertains to jump racing though.

What about Dougie Costello not weighing in with a breast girth despite running in one and I think one not being required for weighing out and his mount subsequently being disqualified for weighing in light. Work than one out.
The BHA’s answer to these things seems to be punish the jockey and move on with no satisfactory explanation despite the threat to the integrity of the sport.April 12, 2010 at 10:33 #289821Can only guess that Silvoir’s either very busy or on holiday because I was puzzled by his apparent absence from the forum during Cheltenham and since. It’s to be hoped he’s in good health.
April 12, 2010 at 10:50 #289824I think we should all bear in mind PS will be taking up his new position as a Director of the BHA (Head of Communication) at the end of this month, therefore, it maybe unreasonable of us to expect him to be as available to this forum as he has been under his current position.
Hopefully, maybe his replacement will be as open and straightforward as PS has been on here and the, what has been at times an invaluable link between this forum and the BHA will remain.
Anyhow, if are looking in PS – good luck with the new job.
Although the last time I looked on Turia Tellwright’s Just Giving page for her charity push-bike ride he still hadn’t donated anything – tight git

If Turia’s dad is responsible for producing the cycle track, the poor girl could be in for a shock. Wonder if she handles the mud.
April 12, 2010 at 23:49 #289995I believe Cheltenham watered to try and get good-soft going. But it must have been very difficult with weather conditions as they were, it is impossible to be that accurate. Until the first few race times come in, nobody truly knows whether the "aimed for" good-soft, is actually truly genuine soft, good-soft or good.
Of course, some more cynical than I; might suggest it was always going to be called "good-soft", whatever the true state of the ground. As the bookmakers market on the "official going" for the start of Cheltenham indicated.
It is a shame so many punters were put away by the "wrong" official going description. Even after the Festival started. Some of the times at Cheltenham were impossibe to run on the "official going". In my opinion of course.
