Just announced on twitter
Declarations for Longchamp: So You Think (Seamus Heffernan), Treasure Beach (Colm O Donoghue) and St Nicholas Abbey (Joseph O Brien).
Yes, it is puzzling why he is such a big price although a couple of bookies now have him at 20/1 and 25/1.
Am I missing something or does Treasure Beach seem like a screaming each way shot at 40/1?
Lightly raced obviously as a 3 year old and if you throw out his last race in France, I believe his form stacks up nicely with many of the more fancied runners – probably better than Workforce and So You Think if you consider the win over Nathaniel at Chester.
Or, is this just a stepping stone for the Breeder’s Cup Turf in November and they figure that he needs a run prior to that?
Cheers and best wishes on Sunday
Karl
I just came on here to write the same thing and saw your post. Chester Vase winner, second by a head at Epsom, won the Irish Derby and a good result in America. The ground should be fine as well. 40/1 seems outstanding to me.
I think the BHA have done a very good job overall with this report and I support what they have done. I’m suprised that so many on here are against it especially as most professionals in the sport seem to have welcomed it. From what I have heard and read from them, in the press, on twitter etc it doesn’t seem to be grudging acceptance but pretty strong support.
Pinza, where did you get the staistic regarding marking and weals ? as according to the Racing Post it happens about twenty times a year. I also don’t understand how it can be said that it is restraint of trade. They are perfectly able to continue their trade just with some adjustments to the rules. It won’t prevent a single rider from carrying on. Saying it’s restraint of trade is like saying a footballer who is penalised from tackling from behind is having his trade restrained.
Two of the better ones in my opinion.
I have been having a bit of a debate on the effect of the draw for the Arc. What are your opinions ? Very important or is it over hyped ?
Stone the crows.
I’m starting to remember why I had Cormack delete my original account.
If you believe the sport is ‘terrible terrible’ then why continue to patronise it?
I have pretty similar feelings to you. I have always wondered why people who think the sport is so bent continue to follow it so closely.
I find exactly the same thing in the poker world. The continuous accusations that the online poker sites are rigged (against them off course)yet they still continue to play. The accusations normally come after their Aces have been outdrawn. Strangely they never seem to make the same accusations when they outdraw aces.
It may only be a handful but it happens all the time.
Isn’t that a bit of a contradiction ?
Another sad day. Top notch trainer. R.I.P.
I’m wondering whether a return to the all weather track might suit him. It was also interesting that Hugh Taylor who I respect very much as a tipster and who works in very much the same way as Pricewise, tipped him as one of his two bets of the day on the ATR site.
It will be interesting to see what they will do to honour him.
I think perhaps a ladies race The "Horses do not win Nationals ridden by women." Handicap Chase.
I’m sure Ginger would appreciate it and see the funny side.
This has come as a real shock. One of the real names of racing.
RIP Ginger you gave so much pleasure to so many.
Thought it was great result and Spencer gave a great ride. As you say he tried the same tactics later but that didn’t work out for him. Wouldn’t criticise him for that ride though, unfortunately the horses never broke to give him the gap. These things happen.
What proof do you need? how can you get sued for an opinion racings about opinions and the opinion i take is his not good imo like it or not if you think his a good jockey then then that’s fine to.
Of course there’s a huge difference between saying he’s not a good jockey and saying he’s corrupt which, without proof, is almost certainly libelous. Over the last ten years he has a strike rate of just under 17% which in my book doesn’t put him in the poor jockey category. Also the fact that Hamdan Al Maktoum seems quite happy with him must say something and, I’m sure Hamdan Al Maktoum knows more about racing than you, me and most of the others on here. And no matter what you, me or anyone else thinks he rides for the owners benefit.
September 14, 2011 at 16:51 in reply to: Is there history between Khalid Abdulla and Kieren Fallon ? #370945I think that Abdulla still stood by Starkey after the Derby as Starkey rode Dancing Brave in the Eclipse. Eddery didn’t take the ride till the King George and if memory serves me rightly that was because Starkey couldn’t ride. It was only after that that Eddery kept the ride.
I can’t see what difference the price of the horse makes. If the jockey thinks riding it in a certain way is the best way then he should go ahead, no matter if it is the favourite or the outsider.
Think the race showed the "Owen Team" to be fully justified regards the jockey, it’s hard to believe Fallon’s strength in the saddle wasn’t a major contributory factor in Brown Panther finishing second, don’t think he would have with Kingscote riding.
As an opinion thats fine as we are all entitled to them but it’s something that can’t be proved right or wrong.I think it is just as likely the horse would have finished as close with Kingscote on top.
