Think the race showed the "Owen Team" to be fully justified regards the jockey, it’s hard to believe Fallon’s strength in the saddle wasn’t a major contributory factor in Brown Panther finishing second after being under the pump a long way out, don’t think he would have with Kingscote riding.

As an opinion thats fine as we are all entitled to them but it’s something that can’t be proved right or wrong.I think it is just as likely the horse would have finished as close with Kingscote on top.
September 11, 2011 at 08:57 #370713The horse at least showed he gets the trip and the fact that he beat Census is disappointing for those who supported him at Newbury. Having said that I am not sure how much difference Fallon made as he actually travelled like one of the worst horses in the race. Contrast the way he was pushed along with the run at Royal Ascot where he was ‘bolting’ from some way out.

Hmm, I’m not quite sure how much blame you can put on Fallon for the horse not travelling well, he has known preference for give in the ground and did well to finish second. Quite a difference in quality of race from a handicap at Ascot rated 91 to a G1 over 14fs.
September 11, 2011 at 11:31 #370721For whatever reason he didn’t ‘travel’ for Fallon. His overall record doesn’t show an obvious preference for soft ground and he was disappointing in the German Derby – ground/ride? Yes, this was a better race than Ascot but the class differential shouldn’t really have kicked in after a couple of furlongs. Having been chased along so early he eventually did well to finish second but I don’t think it is clear cut that he finished second just because Fallon replaced Kingscote.
September 12, 2011 at 03:48 #370765Fact; he was second. Fantasy; wherever he might have finished without Fallon.

"Fantasy" is going a bit far, judgement and opinion may be more accurate, that’s what Dascombe & Owen will have to use otherwise there’s little point in Kingscote not riding the beast.
This forum is full of "fantasy" but it’s only peoples opinions, if it only dealt with "facts" it wouldn’t make very interesting reading. Do you believe in the fantasy that jockeys make no difference?September 12, 2011 at 11:53 #370781Fantasy;jockeys make no difference.Fact;some ride over a hundred winners a season.
September 12, 2011 at 14:26 #370787I think it maybe a fact that Brown Panther didnt win the St Leger, even with a change of jockey.
