Ian,

If you do dislike hype in general, why have you not made comment on Kheleyf or Moon Ballad. I read your comment on backing Russian Valour, and you could not have Kheleyf at the odds. However if Kheleyf had have been an O’Brien hotpot I’m sure the baters would be on ridiculing connections.

Moon Ballad and Kheleyf were two horses who like Hawk Wing were over hyped and readily flopped. So can you tell me why there are not similiar threads on this forum regarding them. Like Hawk Wing they too will have a career at stud when they retire.

I am in agreement that the obsessive futurism as you call it, is commercial. As I said it would be naive to suggest it was just for sporting reasons. Coolmore are no different than any other breeding operation, yet they continuosly get bated on the forum by you and other people, I have yet to read you bating any other breeding operation. If you have, please tell me, but I have yet to read it.
Sorry forgot to mention the hotpot Khelefy that got beat, how much hype was written about this horse? I’m sure you guys knock the sh*t out of the Ballydoyle PR machine will add your comments regarding connections of this horse, mainly the jockey, Frankie Dettori who led everybody to believe it was merely a stirring job today.

So go on lads, post away………

    By the way thanks Aidan!

    Ian,

Can you clarify where point regarding Coolmore hyping up their horses, I have yet to see this to be honest. I have seen regular advertisements in relevent racing press for their stud and stallions, which I may add are quite similiar to any other breeders’s advertisements.

Aidan O’Brien has said that Hawk Wing was a potential superstar previous to the 2002 Flat season, based on what the horse was doing at home. Fair enough he has not lived up to his reputation at home, apart from his run in the Lockinge. Other trainers talk up their horses, and when the horse under performs they have their excuses, like most sports I imagine.

There was an awful lot of hype for Moon ballad before the Prince of Wales Stakes, yet he floped, and there was not an awful lot said about that in ths forum! So why is it Ballydoyle gets flack when their horse flops?

Also, Ian you make a point regarding Grandera "well and truely beating Hawk Wing", thats quite incorrect, a neck, I think was the winning distance.

Dunheap, I do know what PR stands for, but thanks for the english lesson all the same. So bloody what if the horses are feeders for their Stud, what the hell is wrong with that? I don’t think Coolmore are alone in that method of business. You must think that they are mate. Which is quite naive. And no, Hawk Wing would not be running this season if he had of delivered last season.

The best performers, from Ballydoyle IMO are not galileo, HW ROG etc, but the PR machine

Dungheap, can you please explain why you and other people on this forum take every opportunity to absolutely slam Ballydoyle at EVERY given opportunity? I am at a total loss as to where this dislike comes from.

Possibly if Ballydoyle was relocated to Newmarket and run by Sir Royston Barlingford III, it would be the best training establishment in the world. Please enlighten me, because I am at a total loss with this continuous bating of Ballydoyle.
Well done to Dubai Destination and all connections, I hope Hawk Wing returns to the track and runs up to his Newbury running. Again, great display by the winner, and great training performance by Godolphin for getting him back on the course.

    Dungheap,

I don’t understand your reasoning here, you keep going on about hype? What do mean? The horse did more than what was expected of him on Saturday, he beat a good field of horses, demolished them.

Surely not every horse was below par on Saturday of thats what your suggesting, I don’t remember any trainer commenting on their horses being below par. You must have missed Terry Mills being interviewed prior to the race, where he oozed with confidence in the state of WOW.

Hawk Wing was fantastic on Saturday, plain and simple. He delivered on his promise finally, and he is a top class flat horse. To say he was flaterred is quite ridiculous IMO.

    Flagship,

He holds the record for all age horses for 7F at the Curragh, not just 2 year olds. So I would rate that as a good performance.

    Flagship,

Not saying he is the greatest ever, but to be honest never heard ANYBODY saying that!!!!!!! You say he has put in ONE good performance! What about the National Stakes as a two year old, he broke the course record for 7F, for any age! Would you not count that as a good performance?

    Morgans,

I agree with everything you say, another record for this horse on Saturday, along with the record for 7F at the Curragh, he is a fantastic horse.

However, lets not take anything from ROG. He did after all win 7 group ones, so deserves to be hailed as the superstar he is.

    Mesh,

Nayef is most definitely not a dirt horse. It will be intersting to see how MB does against HW. By the way, how do come to the conclusion the MB has improved more than HW from 3-4?

    Mesh,

Your waiting for Six Perfections next weekend, I’m really looking forward to seeing how Walayef runs against her, I think she is a really special filly.

What a performance , just saw it on video. I saw him in the curragh a few weeks ago, running after racing, and he looked better than ever. He ran with a 3 yr old Arundel, stalked to 2f out and then quickened without coming off the bridle. I was mightly impressed with him that day, but what a performance today.

    Happyjack,

Somnus is a gelding, he would have been a 2000 Guineas entry, on his form with Tout Seul, he would also have been a contender.

    Zoz,

Unfortunately my knowledge of breeding would not be on par with yours, Sals or Aidans. Could you suggest a book that would be able to bring me up to speed?

My opinions are based on the Ballydoyle operation, I am great admirer of Aidan O’Brien and the connections that run this yard. They have raised the profile and the game of Irish racing.
