Your views are right about the irish challenge but I’d say its an above average introduction of UK horses this year and there’s been some better bumpers.

I still recall Colin Tizzard saying in early February "if this horse was trained by Willie Mullins it’d be favourite" he was banging on about Cue Card and you know what happened next.

I like Hobb’s Wishful Dreaming travelled well last time winning by a neck New Years Day. I’d like to know what is happening to the horse that beat it in it’s previous run, one of Alan King’s doesn’t appear in the race on Oddschecker.

Just read Hobb’s stable tour in The Weekender, is on his holidays till next year. Reckons he’s to young a horse for a shot at anything this year which is probably right as The Bumper and Henderson has a view on this can stop inexperienced horses

Does a horses mark remain the same after an unseat?

A rank decision especially in the circumstances how Adrian missed the last festival with a horrible injury on the eve of Cheltenham. Hope he wins his appeal, he should.

My original thought some time ago Shaneshill still there at a going price in this race but also a going price in the Neptune. I’m waiting for NRNB.

Mullins does your head in with his plethora of talented novice beasts

If the qeustion is proportionally were there more winning favorites in times gone by than now becuase they are getting backed to lose now then the answer is no. I do not know any one in there seventies who made a fortune backing fancied horses in the fifties sixties seventies eighties and nineties.

In the book Enemy Number One by the big gambler Veitch he writes he was astounded as a schoolboy when he first went into a bookmakers most betting shop punters backed the tipped up horses pinned on the bookies wall which were invariably fancied. they lost heavily.

    Surprised nobody’s mentioned Getmeoutofhere

    Lee

I was. I read thru 3 pages but you beat me to it.

I fell upon Menorahs supreme win on youtube last night and guess which horse was second, I’d forgotten about that and was there for his head bob second to Final Approach in the Coral. And another I cant recall

But Mcmanus Mcoy and trainer are no strangers to other successes so for purely sentimental reasons I’d wish Flemenstar had won a truly massive race

Just doing a bit off study on the supreme and i don’t like lami serge or douvan i’ll explain why.

Lami serge when beating jollys cracked it jumped poor and when he jumped the last he plodded on instead off quickening i just think he is way too short and will have to jump a lot better to win a supreme

As for douvan i think 5-2 is a crazy price the horse has won a poor race and they didn’t seem to go very fast not many runner’s etc…A supreme novice is a totally diffrent experaince lots off runners and go flat out to the first and at the price he is not for me

i haven’t really got a fancy for the race i fancy alvisio ville to run a big race i think macoy will ride. But only won a maiden hurdle. But was impressive. But not really confident. The supreme has brought up sum surprises in the past!.

Look at the form of Douvan and Sizing John. Sizing John first run wins, Sizing John up against Douvan and SJ comes second, Sizing John runs again, No Douvan and wins, trainer thinks a lot of Sizing John. Ruby Walsh thinks Douvan best he’s ever ridden potentially. Think we are looking at another Faugheen here and Douvan nailed on for the Supreme.

Not having a bet. To many improbables and tbh I dont know a huge amount about the runners apart from those at the top. I had a look to see what the consensus of opinion was and VtC had it right in his opening thread especially in his first paragraph because its how it has panned out totally.

Good Luck if your’e having a bet. It’s a fascinating race and one that stops a county which I find engaging.

Anything ridden by A P McCoy!! Can’t stand the way that commentators go overboard about the ‘greatest ride ever from the Champ’ when he’s won on a 1/5 shot that anyone could have won on! He is one of the reasons why my interest in jumps racing has waned.

I have to agree. AP’s had well over 4000 winners but none of them have carried my money!

Just say that you’re right and AP isn’t as good as some people think…

Let’s get this straight. You two want a man to lose races – because of –

    not

his own opinion of himself – but

    someone else

‘s overblown opinion of him. How is that

    AP’s fault

? Why would you want a man to be

    unsuccessful

    because of

    some else

‘s opinion of him? AP could be

    exactly

the same man as he is now, riding

    exactly

the same way as he does now and you’d be

    happy

to see him win – as long as

nobody thought he was any good

    .

Strikes me you’re jealous of his success.

I am not knocking the man. I said the fella’s had 4000 winners but I never had one of them

I remeber Paul Webber talking pre race about Time For Rupert and said today we find out if we turn right for Fakenham or left for Cheltenham. It got beat but he still turned left in March..should have made a right.

Good thread and a little bit mean but it’s a mean month January so Captain bloody Conan. A truly Horrible Horse. No personal reason I never backed it but overhyped and hopeless, see it might be out next week…lay
