No surprises that Mullins dominates the market here.
Bordini has been up there for a good while and then along came Up for Review, then finally Au Quart du Thaix showed his hand.
Vigil looked impressive beating another good one of Mullins, Bellshill over Christmas, Weld has indicated there’s a chance he could yet go over hurdles.
Something else usually pops up from nowhere by now, however Mahler Lad who was highly touted due to his point form with Bordini and Bellshill ran like a pig at Newcastle yesterday, so he can be written off. Ferguson had one pulled out of the same race that was quoted for the Festival so could be worth a look.
Other than that, i’m struggling to think of worthwhile UK bumper prospects.
I backed Bordini and Up for Review at 14s straight after their most recent wins, but passed on advice to back Au Quart.. at 20s before his Punchestown romp !

Hopefully Ricci will be doubly represented here, I know the Wylies have no problem being double handed in this race so both Up for Review and Bellshill could make the field.Anybody else got a line on this race?
January 29, 2015 at 14:24 #503331An article in the Irish Times this week, where Eddie O’Leary was quoted, suggested that the ‘ban’ on Gigginstown bumper runners had been lifted, and Stone Hard and Valerian Bridge were possibles for the race.
Stone Hard has been the most impressive bumper horse I’ve seen this season, loved how he won on debut and then hacked up in the fog at Gowran last week. He’s not as flashy as some of his stable companions but he finds plenty for pressure and looks a really strong stayer.
I’ve backed Bellshill at 25/1 and thought he ran well against Vigil, giving him weight. On both occasions Bellshill has ran this season, he has travelled well before looking a bit one paced in the finish. It’s possible he’ll go better on better ground and the likely fast pace of the Champion Bumper should suit him given his cruising speed. Definitely still a horse of interest.
Of the rest of the Mullins contingent I’ve been most impressed with Bordini and Up For Review. Supasundae has been purchased by the Potts and is now with de Bromhead, he was impressive in his bumper and I presume this is still the target.
January 29, 2015 at 16:08 #503343Pretty much odds on another Mullins winner then looking at the strength in depth – at least six strong contenders. The Gigginstown additions potentially throw a real spanner in my plans !!
January 29, 2015 at 17:18 #503351What was the deal with the Gigginstown ban?
I’m involved on Pylonthepressure and Up for Review. Sadly Pylon is trading at 30 plus on Betfair.
Pipe’s horse looks Britain’s best hope.
Mullins team is phenomenal, not sure I have seen a stronger festival sting ever.
January 29, 2015 at 17:29 #503354Gigginstown previously said they would not run their horses in it as its too hard a race for bumper types. When you look at some of the Irish festival bumpers that statement is a bit rich, given the thrashings some of the Irish amateurs dish out to their mounts. I recall Champagne Fever literally treading water but given a good hiding by young Patrick. I thought that would take some getting over.
January 31, 2015 at 14:24 #503573Moon racer is the value bet of the entire festival at the moment for me. He could have gone hurdling this year and, in my opinion, would be a leading contender for the supreme novices if he had. Won already on course and and likely ground conditions, and aimed at this race since the start of the season. I will back him all the way into 6’s.

Have had to consider my thoughts on this season’s bumper horses after today’s Punchestown finale.
General Principle
ran out an effortless 22 length winner and looks a horse with a big future. Unlikely to go the Cheltenham and looks a typical Gigginstown staying chaser in waiting, but that looked a monstrous performance. Can’t wait to see him again.
February 1, 2015 at 23:07 #503821Agree there THM. Thought the same myself. Not sure what he beat, but he left some impression. Evens a gift!
February 2, 2015 at 19:18 #503903Johnny Ward suggested on today’s RP Podcast that there’s a chance General Principle may indeed go to Cheltenham, having spoken with Eddie O’Leary. Having been keen on Stone Hard and Bellshill, I’d struggle to look beyond this lad, hopefully he can confirm the impression he made yesterday. Surprised he’s not been quoted yet.

Would be huge if you could be sure he was being aimed at the race.

Clearly their spies are reading this forum

Rates a favourable mention in the Irish Angle page of The Weekender today, but states Cheltenham is not on the agenda for him.
February 4, 2015 at 09:37 #504049The two Mullins horses I have been most taken by over the winter were Pylonthepressure and Up For Review. Does anyone know if they are going for this? I have covered the pair but am now worried, especially with Pylon, the owner has a few in here and his Betfiar price is over 30-1.

They are both entered at Naas on Saturday in the 2m 3f bumper that is usually won by a good sort (I recall Welds Ascot Gold Cup winner ran in this in 2009?).
I think Bordini and Au Quart.. are Ricci’s main two. Interestingly Au Quart is longest with Power (allegedly got the ‘in’ on Mullins yard) who pushed him out a point at the weekend.
February 7, 2015 at 17:47 #504536I had lost hope on him as he traded over 33-1 a week ago. Had a small top up but hopefully that win cements his place at the festival now…..
February 8, 2015 at 08:21 #504606Pylonthepressure
who ran at
Naas
yesterday only has to turn up at Cheltenham to win the Bumper, he earned a speed figure from me of
118
, Willie Mullins has another class act on his hands
