Interesting stuff Tuffers and thanks for posting.
Surely that the Owners should be putting in an extra £3m too to the kitty?
All the other groups are increasing their input into the pot so surely the Owners should too?

They’re Monday and Tuesday two weeks from now.
Tried to make last years though thwarted by snow in the end.

Would love to but will be back up North by then.
Will be around London and the South East earlier if anyone fancies a pint in or around Central London early/mid December?
Was thwarted by the snow last year so hope for better luck this.

Dawn Run died as the result of a fall at a top racecourse and as Luke points out on her fourth outing of the season.
The mare had had three previous starts and the owner wanted to run her in the race that was most suitable – in this instance given her proven stamina it was to attempt a repeat of her 1984 win in the French Champion Hurdle over 3m+, she was lightly raced that season and they were hardly trying something that the mare wasn’t used to or they knew wouldn’t be able to handle.
Her death was an unfortuante accident – nothing more and nothing less.
November 20, 2011 at 16:19 in reply to: General questions for The Jumps competition 2011/12 (Hills) #3788611) Quevega probably won’t run before Cheltenham but she has an outstanding chance their and at Punchestown – would also double check the end date and criteria as they might take her to France at the end of May for a Grade 2 she’d have a chance in.
2) Binocular has a cracking chance in the FF and Christmas Hurdle on flat tracks, whether he’s back to his best is another matter but with Peddlers Cross chasing, Grandouet winning yesterday, his stablemate (Spirit Son) not running until after Christmas there’s not a lot left (anyone know when Zarkandar is back?)
I’ve got Simonsig down as a Supreme Novices horse – the drop back in trip didn’t hinder him at all at Fairyhouse and his former trainer here in the UK has said he had so much speed they couldn’t run him!
Would be all over Mount Benbulben in this – no great surprise given how much I like the horse but he’s a star in the making over 2m 6f+, whether that is over hurdles or fences remains to be seen as his jumping of p2p fences was at best sketchy. We’ll soon see though and hopefully they’ll step him up to 2m 4f soon enough though he’s entered in the Royal Bond I believe.
Gary’s popped up again

Might be mad here but thought Wise Old Owl would have an outstanding chance in the National – they really need to brush up on the horses jumping but was told back in Feb that the yard thought he had a stone plus in hand at 2m 6f+ and he ran a cracking race in the Galway Plate when only overhauled late on by Blazing Tempo. Imagine he’s unlikely to run but he’s ridiculously consistent, needs good ground to be seen at his best and is a big horse who if brushing up on his jumping could go their with a live chance.
Indeed Reet – that said they’re businesses not charities.
Can’t be as bad as Boylesports either – they won’t even let me talk to the lovely Sinead in the call centre anymore

The Irish P2P Spring fixtures were released today and there’s another meeting scheduled at Tralee for the end of January.
Looks like there’ll be racing at the track in 2012 too

Unfortunately for the BHA British punters have much more choice than their overseas counterparts – if racing had a monopoly on sports betting (as the PMU had in France until recently) it would be much easier for the BHA, the determination of the levy etc.
The age was only reduced to 6yo’s from 7yo for the 1999 after Cyfor Malta bolted up in the John Hughes and was found to be ineligible for the following years big race.
So an Irish-bred 7yo that didn’t jump a hurdle till it was 5 is deemed to be more suitable than a French-bred 6yo that’s been schooled since it was 2?
If as some suggest the BHA are not regulators of gambling etc. why should they receive levy payments?
Surely if they don’t consider punters to be customers or bookmakers to be customers etc. then any prize money should come from race sponsorship and as such from the current list of "stakeholders" the BHA use ie. owners, trainers and racecourses?
Agree but should we sift through the Ladbrokes, Betfair etc. winning accounts list and give them a voice?
I think giving losing punters a voice is no worse than giving trainers, owners etc. who seem fairly blind to simple economics a voice in racing.
November 1, 2011 at 18:49 in reply to: Paul Bittar – Daily Telegraph interviews incoming BHA CEO #375432Far more worrying for racing should be news that the bookmakers want more FOBT’s in shops – more gambling opportunities and less reliance on racing (which is the only sport they pay levy on) will only be bad for British racing.
Nothing wrong with having 1,200 meetings but they need to be staggered throughout the day to take as much money as possible, make as much profit and generate as much profit IMO.
The government have far more important things to worry about that arguing between one group (bookmakers) who are trying to give as little as possible and another (BHA) who are plucking random figures and hoping for the best.
A new way of determining the levy would be a better idea – using bookies profits, racecourse profits etc. and calculating that way.
