Does anyone have any idea which Gigginstown beasts will turn up for this? They look to have a pretty strong hand with Last Installment, First Liuetenant and Sir Des Champs.

I was impressed with Last Installment last time out, but SDC has so much potential and is already a festival winner. Maybe the new Jewson for that one?

First Lieutenant is heading over three miles for the Fort Leney at Christmas apparently. He’ll probably end up in this Sun Alliance and will be very hard bet.

Hard to know where Sir Des Champs will go. He’s not out this weekend so safe to assume he’ll miss the Drinmore. Willie won’t want another Mikael D’Haguenet on his hands. Presumably O’Leary will be wanting to keep all of his runners at Christmas apart so he might be one for the Greenmount at Limerick. We don’t know enough about him to know what his best trip is yet. I’m not sure if it was a case of him getting hopelessly outpaced at Cheltenham and stamina bailing him out. I think it was a combination of greeness, inexperience (particularly on fast ground), and little luck in-running (badly hampered by at least one faller). It was only coming down the hill that the penny dropped with him I reckon.

Last Instalment should be aimed at either the National Hunt Chase or Fairyhouse for the National. He’ll gallop all day as he showed in the p2p bumper a few years ago. Put Robbie Mac up on him at Cheltenham in the 4 miler and he’d nearly be the Irish banker of the meeting.

Hardy Eustace is a shocking omission. How are Rooster Booster, Brave Inca and Harchibald included ahead of him? Makes no sense.

Galmoy was far superior than some of the stayers included/

There’s more chance of Michael D winnning a grade 1 than Mikael D. He’s a pale shadow of the horse he was. Those who were backing him at Navan last weekend against Murphy’s mare need their heads examined.

    1:40 Punchestown

Last Instalment @ 11/10 (Stan James)

    €100 win

Hot little race up against Donnas Palm and Four Commanders but this horse has always screamed staying chaser ever since he won the p2p bumper at Fairyhouse. Not short of speed either beating The Real Article last season.

    3:00 Exeter

Knight Pass @ EVS (Paddy Power)

    €100 win

Looks a very ordinary novice hurdle and this horse was highly tried in bumpers.

    3:40 Punchestown

Make Your Mark @ 11/8 (Paddy Power)

    €50

Impressive p2p winner at Lisronagh and conditions will suit here.

Thousand Stars is a very credible challenger to Big Bucks in staying hurdles. Was mowing down Oscar Whiskey at Liverpool and won the French Champion Hurdle very impressively with Grand Cru in behind.

Forget about Kauto Star and Master Minded, Brady was the star of the show today.

    Up Monaghan!

It won’t happen simply because Fine Gael would be the least eurosceptic of all the Irish parties. When Merkel and Sarkhozy say "Jump," Kenny and Noonan ask "How High?" Labour have been a bit underwhelming as coalition partners so far. Very much a case of Frankfurt’s way rather than Gilmore’s way.

Ireland is very much the best boy in the class at the moment by towing the line unlike the Greeks etc. I suspect that Kenny and Noonan are hoping that this will be rewarded in time. It will have to be though because the terms of our bailout will cripple this country. The Irish taxpayer is burdened with paying off billions worth of unguaranteed and unsecured bondholders to keep the European banking system afloat. Some sort of a debt writedown or debt forgiveness for Ireland is going to be absolutely essential. A default is inevitable if debt forgiveness is not forthcoming.

Bridging the budget defecit is going to hit a lot of Irish people very hard and we will see a contraction in our economy. There is no way we can cut and tax our way out of this mess because it will simply stunt and possible growth in our economy. Very bleak decade ahead I fear.

    No problem IC.
Didn’t want your followers to miss out.

I was actually thinking about putting up Grandouet myself. Don’t usually put up odds-on horses, but seemed to have masses in hand at Wincanton. Even allowing for Celestial Halo always finds a lot off the bridle (possibly lazy sort). Thing that put me off is although Grandouet usually jumps his hurdles fluently, has a habit of getting one wrong now and again. Was on him at Aintree! We don’t know how much the Wincanton fall has knocked Grandouet’s confidence. However, his main rival has even more suspect jumping.

Good luck today IC, not that you need any judging by your record.

Well done IC, you’re better at picking the short priced value than I am. Taken 16/1 Grandouet for Cheltenham.

Don’t know about that Ginge. I couldn’t tip sh1te from a bucket recently!

Oscar Whiskey was unlucky but today was clearly not the day for Midnight Game. Drifted as if a leg had fallen off but still very disappointing that he didn’t go by Meade’s horse after the last.

Taking a chance tomorrow that So Young’s run at the festival in May was simply one run too much. Ran a good race at Cheltenham and hopefully will have strengthened up over the summer. Fully Funded is a good yardstick but he has to give 6lbs to So Young. May have a few more bets on the Punchestown card but haven’t had time to study the races yet. Had a few picked out down at Mallow but that’s off now

    12:40 Punchestown

So Young @ 4/6 (Paddy Power)

    €250 win
