Excellent article on one of the great characters of the national hunt game. Would love to see him finally have a winner at Cheltenham – no one would deserve it more. His celebrations after Baron De Feypo was placed in the Coral Cup a few years ago were brilliant!

January 12, 2009 at 18:52 #203442Ebadiyan now 14/1 for the Triumph after bolting up at Punchestown.
It would bring the house down at Cheltenham. Stranger things have happened!
January 12, 2009 at 18:52 #203444More from Ollie after Ebidayan’s victory at Punchestown.
Unfortunately we have no sound on at work but was able to see the celebrations in the winners enclosure.
If he wins at Chelters it could be very interesting afterwards!!
January 12, 2009 at 18:55 #203447He was asking what price Cashmans were now! They were 40/1 before the race. I’m sure Oliver has a few bob on at that price.
January 12, 2009 at 21:21 #203487thanks for posting; what a wonderful story and what a great man, fingers crossed for that Chelts winner (tho seems he’d need to have doubled up on his medication beforehand!)
January 14, 2009 at 05:43 #203843A larger than life character, a great sense of humour for a guy that constantly stares death in the face. Unbelievable when he appears on ATR with his high jinks and poetry. He lives it to the max and what a great guy he is. I’d love to see Ebadiyan run a big race at the festival. Ebadiyan seems best out in front and I get the feeling he could be setting it up for the other two greys Zaynar or even Walkon. But it would bring the house down if Ebadiyan could get his head in front at the line.
January 15, 2009 at 01:44 #203998My first direct encounter with Oliver Brady was whilst heading for the exits after the County Hurdle. What a scene in the winners enclosure with Oliver performing to some tune about Balapour to anyone prepared to listen. Needless to say as Baron de Feypo passed the post placed in the Coral Hurdle I grabbed my companions and we rushed to the winners enclosure for another dose.
What a character and all the very best with Ebadiyan, Oliver.
January 15, 2009 at 01:52 #204001Great man, totally honest and a great snse of humour, never forget when he tipped Maralan E/W at 50/1, needless to say it won.
January 15, 2009 at 04:33 #204026Imperial Call,
Thanks for highlighting a most interesting and illuminating article that would have been lost in the ether.
With quality racing articles being somewhat sparse in non-racing rags it would be appreciated if more were highlighted here.

G’wan Ebadiyan!
Thought I’d post this video to give us some idea of what we can expect from the great man tomorrow. He certainly puts Ruby in his place at the end of the clip. I wouldn’t reccomend sensitive folk that are a bit offended by a sprinkling of agricultural language to click the link.

March 14, 2009 at 18:09 #216327Desperately disappointing day for Oliver yesterday after what happened with Ebadiyan. The horse was just getting into top gear before cocking his jaw and running out. Such a shame.
Hopefully there’ll be another day for Oliver and Ebadiyan at Punchestown next month.
March 14, 2009 at 18:23 #216329Can any of our experienced equestrians explain why a horse would do what he did? RUK were on about him being spooked by the steeplechase fence but I don’t buy that.
March 14, 2009 at 18:51 #216338Not an expert by any means but I do ride and looking at the re-run it looked like the horse just decided he was going to duck out – not spooked by anything – and not much you can do going at that speed with him determined to cock his jaw with his head so high up. Hopefully next time he’ll not be so close to the wing giving him the opportunity …
March 14, 2009 at 18:54 #216340Just a theory I had in my head but it could be possible that he remembered the race at Leopardstown when he was carried out at the second flight.
March 14, 2009 at 20:20 #216358Also ride, also not an expert, but might simply have been on a wrong stride, the horse knew it and didn’t want to fall – being close to wing gave him a chance to duck out. Only saw live race tho, not replay/s
Shame really, but I’m sure Brady knows it’s all part of the game & you have to accept things like that sometimes.
March 14, 2009 at 22:08 #216377Why did Ebadiyan run out?
Because given the choice of jumping a hurdle or not jumping a hurdle he chose the latter.
Or may be he did not want OB to be shouting about in the parade ring.

As I remember, when Oliver Brady was third and made that Irish impression of John Cooper Clark; the TV concentrated on him. The trainer of his first and possibly only winner at Cheltenham got very little coverage.
Was it me? Or did he seem to suggest God was on his side in an interview before the race? May be with what happened to Ebadiyan, God was not on his side.
Great character he undoubtedly is, I like him in small doses. Would not wish running out on anyone, but is it possible OB does some of these things for publicity?

…something I had the temerity to criticise on these boards at the time. Don’t mind the celebrations, but they’re for when you win, the rest seemed like an ignorant hijacking of someone else’s moment.
Still, he’s such a wacky
character
, eh?
