November 20, 2011 at 23:11 #378925anyone who thinks the ride he gave oscar whisky up until the fall was superb needs their head looking at.
geraghtys making a habit of hesitating at the last. somehow reminds me of dickie johnson when hes on bad form.
connections need to have a word with their jockey. get it sorted!!

That would be me then del, explain what was so poor about the ride before the fall then?
November 20, 2011 at 23:25 #378928should of kicked on much sooner. if you know your horses you know overturn is as game as anything. thats just my opinion though, not trying to provoke hatred, just saying what i feel.
November 21, 2011 at 03:03 #378937Bit late to comment on it, but it was absolutley jockey error.
As the pilot, Barry would have been more aware than anyone that he had his rivals measure and, with a long run-in, only had to let his mount pop the last before gathering him up and winning the race, which he would have. To ask him to jump on the stride he was on was crazy.
If he could do that again he’d pick the other option.
November 21, 2011 at 06:30 #378938What’s the chances of a white xmas? Did someone mention BG made an error Yawn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! geesus, gawd forbid he falls of another one we’ll have to lynch him
November 21, 2011 at 08:51 #378944In Paul Carberry’s book there is a piece where he relates an episode in his early career where he thinks he has been unfairly criticised by Noel Meade after a fall. He asks his father (Tommy) that evening what he thought and he advises him something like "when you fall it is always your fault". I am sure most jockeys look at falls and try and figure out what they should have done differently.
To take two falls three(?) weeks apart and try and argue that they form some part of a pattern is however nothing more than confirmation bias. A wider review of data is needed. I dont have this but Chris Cook did look at unseats in 2009 :

Barry had the fewest.
November 21, 2011 at 18:09 #379013Only four today at Kempton.Must be a real cockup.
November 21, 2011 at 21:52 #379049just because he had four winners today, doesn’t take away the fact that he bodged up on oscar whisky and grandouet.
the races today hardly had any pressure on him to make mistakes like he did previously.

Then wtf did the RP report this:
his jockey said afterwards that he felt he needed to go for a big one at the last to have any chance of winning.
Jesus wept.

Barry negotiated a total of 50 hurdles/Fences today in order to accomplish a 4 timer, both Chases were novices and at times they jumped like them,i would suggest praise is the order of the day.
November 21, 2011 at 23:11 #379069I think Geraghty is one of the best. Grandouet clattered the last at Haydock on Saturday and is probably a better jumper travelling at at pace.
The OW fall on Saturday looked a very tired one to me.

I couldn’t give a hoot what Geraghty said post race. ‘Geraghty
felt
‘ being the quote, Reet. Well he ‘felt’ wrong IMO, and I think he knows it.
A jockey can know he has the measure of a horse and still get a rush of blood at that vital split second, Reet, which is what I saw happen. It was a mistake – nothing more. He remains a fantastic jockey and one I’fd never hesitate to back. Second to only Ruby, IMO.
November 25, 2011 at 15:21 #379559Great ride on Henderson’s in the novice chase today.
November 25, 2011 at 17:02 #379577I would have to disagree slightly and say rather than a good ride from Geraghty it was a poor one from Tizzard.
I think any one of the top 5 jockeys would have won on Cue Card today.
But that is just my opinion.November 25, 2011 at 18:17 #379587Tizzards a piece of work unlike Geharty who is as professional as they come.
Only ones to blame for the falls in question were Oscar Whisky who ignored Geharty and took a step too far before taking off and Grandouet who’s just plain clumsy at times. He took of a yard too soon with Geharty sitting motionless like he had been for almost the entire race.
Had Geharty on Grandouet done something different at the point he came down you could ask why did he do that when the horse hadn’t put a foot wrong?
Oscar Whisky was in a do or die battle and was all out. Delboy! Your suggestion he had time to take a pull and pop the last is total nonsense.
Had he done that and got beaten he’d have been pulled over the coal by NH and punters would be screaming for his head.
Horses fall in the heat of battle 90% of time it’s their own fault. Get used it or stop betting is my advice.
November 25, 2011 at 19:07 #379598Apart from fact that Bobs Worth is a tough horse who wants to win, Barry Geraghty gave him a superb ride today, no doubt about it.
