I would have to disagree slightly and say rather than a good ride from Geraghty it was a poor one from Tizzard.
I think any one of the top 5 jockeys would have won on Cue Card today.
But that is just my opinion. That’s interesting. I had CC in a double with another horse that won, and I can’t honestly say I noticed Joe do anything wrong (as much as I’d probably like to!).
In hindsight, he could have possibly tucked him away and played his cards later, but I was happy to see him bowl along – not disappointing the horse this time – at just an even pace. He pulled early again which played into the winners hands and the mistake was horse error, in an otherwise very good round of jumping under Joe.
What would you have expected any other Jockey to do differently, bearing in mind riding orders were 99.9% likely to be to make the running?
November 25, 2011 at 19:23 #379601Apart from fact that Bobs Worth is a tough horse who wants to win, Barry Geraghty gave him a superb ride today, no doubt about it.
Apart from making sure he got over the fences safely, I never thought Geraghty had to be particulary clever to win the race. CC pulled hard early and came back to the superior stayer IMO. I suppose all winning rides are great rides though, eh?! I’d have thought so if I was on!
November 25, 2011 at 19:49 #379606I very much doubt Cue Card will make it big over fences unless Joe Tizzard is unable to ride. I dont like blaming jockeys and rarely do but I don’t rate him.
Im sure with the jockeys switched on the first and second the result would have been differant.
Anyway, looking forward to going up to Newbury tommorrow, The Tizzard horse should go well in the last with Aiden Coleman on instead.

November 25, 2011 at 22:35 #379632I always thought of Cue Card as a stayer. I appreciate it was not against much but I thought the most impressive performance was over 2 1/2 miles at Aintree last season.
I have to say that had Tizzard attacked the last fence like he had the second last as opposed to apearing to slow up and pop it to get over and had stopped looking around I have no doubt Cue Card would have won.
IMO the differnce bewteen Tizzard and Geraghty is about 7lbs so I thought Cue Card was exceptional in the circumstances.
Next time give the ride to AP or Jsson Maguire.
Sadly that will not be the case.November 25, 2011 at 23:01 #379639[quote="no idea"
IMO the differnce bewteen Tizzard and Geraghty is about 7lbs7 lbs!

Top jockeys are more consistent, they make fewer mistakes, granted.
But as far as making a horse go a little bit quicker, 7 lbs is way too much. A pound or two, three at most.Anyway,
It was the right thing to do to make the running. However, Tizzard messed up today. On a horse with speed (Cue Card), one that hasn’t always found much off the bridle. Gerraghty on a stayer, with stamina to burn (Bobs Worth) who finds plenty for the whip. Joe should have known Bobs Worth would be coming back at him near the line. So why take it so easily going to the last?It was one race, one mistake, no big deal. Hope he learns from it.
Credit Barry though, for not giving up. Wish he had!
Value Is EverythingNovember 25, 2011 at 23:10 #379641Someone who should get a mention here is Richard Hoiles.
What an excellent commentary. Setting the scene in to the straight "stamina V speed". Seeing Joe take it steady in to the last and Barry going for a big one.
Richard could give 7 lbs to most of his rivals.
Terrific stuff.
