It was Buick that made the call, not Charlie. He felt it was softer than the advertised going.

    No love for Prague?

Won its G2 with ease, in the soft ground. Worth a shot at G1 especially as ground can be a leveller and this lad loves cut.

Times are on a par with the front of the market. 12s or 14s e/w for me rather than the Fav at 2s.

Interesting topic – Since this ride (was declared for a RA race on Fransciscos Piece, a few days later so had to be used), https://www.racingpost.com/results/13/chester/2024-06-14/868138, he has not ridden for Keatley and most likely wont sit on his horses again. I think he had issues with another Keatley horse the same week.

COT is a Justify x Together Forever, doesn’t really scream run me in a bog. Ground totally to blame but now has a 10f Soft ground G1 in the bag. Hoover the 8s for the BCC.

“Just imagine if every trainer went through that crap.
Anyone would think he’s always accepting an Oscar.
I have to turn away now, it’s so embarrassing.

If I was on his team and was thanked by AOB, I’d think so f……. what! You’ve thanked the whole population of Ireland anyway. It means absolutely nothing. Used to be endearing but is now just a nervous tick.”

The man is under an unbelievable amount of stress, the last few years with the change in ownership structure and the Stallions, but especially this year where things have not gone right until the Derby/Royal Ascot. He is a very humble man so what you say about you being on his team and hearing that, you are a million miles away in your thoughts about his team and what they think of him.

“O’Brien had no intention of fielding four runners but did so to make the numbers up to eight.”

100% that he added the runners to make up the dead 8. The World Pool also had a lot to do with it, as if there was 7 or less runners then the track I think only gets 2/3 of the pot that would be paid to them. It was only going to be GS and LA running before nonone else declared.

I would say that the LA/COT running in the Derby was a plan similar to Illinois/Highnury race in the Queens Vase. If COT didnt fire in the derby, then LA was there to pick up the pieces but if COT did fire, then it wasn’t going flat out for the win. Lordan got the shout 3 out in the Derby. Same as Highbury the other week, Lordan knew before the turn in that Moores was on it, so held back Illinois, even if it wasn’t pretty viewing.

They had to split COT and HL last year so HL may not have had the chance to run on anything but a softer surface. COT was the 2000G horse so naturally HL was aimed at France, which nearly always is on the softer side.

I think we will see a different HL tomorrow, especially after being undercooked (lack of a prep run) and not getting the best ride in France, still only beat 4l. I can see HL going off 11/4

HL and Highbury is a great e/w double, 4s the pair currently if not bigger.

More a poster on Fat Jockey but long time reader of the forum. City of Troy intrigues me. I have a friend who moves in circles at racedays, helping out ‘the lads’ home and abroad, can be close to them at times. COT was fully expected to win at Newmarket. Fully expect to win Saturday also, but Ylang Ylang rates a better bet. Ground coming right into COT also.

Most Justify’s need to be prominent do they not, when racing, following their father? I had looked previously and from a limited data set, saw that results were better when prominent or leading. Would agree with GT about temperament bred into them.

A lot made of the video when being hard ridden in work. Aiden was soft on him all winter, ground over here only dry in the last 3 weeks, since September! COT needs to be taught how to race, ride him out, get him used to not being soft. I would think a lot would have been made of him since Newmarket. Horse is over 16 hands high, I think we will see a different horse, physically anyways, mentally all going well on Saturday, but a lot has to go well to win any race, as we know. Doubt the 4s will be seen again.

“I believe the long term answer is to drastically cut (by 25% and maybe as much as 33%) the main prize money and put it into a “bonus” for a British trained winner. ie If it is a British trained winner, the British trainer gets a bonus (of 25 or 33%) as well as the owner and jockey (wherever the owner and jockey come from). So all connections of a British trained winner would get the same amount of prize money as would’ve been the case without the prize money “cut”. This would particularly encourage British owners to have their horses in Britain, but also foreign owners too.”

Cut the Prizemoney? Alternatively, leave the pot as it is, and add a 25% bonus to the UK winner, if that is a path you think should be followed.

Restrict Irish Horses/Trainers at your pearl. I am based in Ireland, and believe without the Irish horses coming over, UK racing would be in a worse state than it is.

Irish horses may win the odd Saturday pot, but have been historically unsuccessful at the big festival meetings in the UK. Restrict them travelling for Saturdays, and it will in the long term knock on to affect the Festivals.

The biggest problem is UK trainers can’t spot/get good horses anymore, if they can, they won’t pay the money. If they give the money then they train the horse, are they better at that then the Irish? Sir Gino excluded but the Donnelly’s had to send that one to NJH. Cotton balls next year along side CH! Skelton get slated, but he is the only bright light in UK racing currently.

Average horses also get hyped up in the UK all the time, Stores are an absolute fortune these days over there, the UK p2p scene doesn’t produce top animals anymore, juveniles from France are for the select few, i.e Donnelly’s, JP

Prime example and I got slated for saying this before Exeter; Tom Malone was hyping up Teeshan as the next coming, won p2p by 40l or whatever. The novice race in 2025 was already in the bag! BUT, why did the horse not stay in Ireland, why not picked up by Irish stables. We all know why after the Champion Bumper.

Quite simply the Irish have better horses and better trainers.

100% there was some work left but it was the manner of way she ran. I only posted in case someone thinking 5/1 was Christmas and going to buy money. The demeanour of AOB after that run was something that was not seen ever before. The disappointment that was seen in the man at the box at the Curragh that day was concerning. She was supplemented based on what I said about about not having the ammo to have a craic at the ARC for a few years so rolling the dice. By all means, feel free to empty the clip.

I have rarely posted here but Snowfalls last race wasn’t a prep as you may say. They were genuinely very very disappointed with the run. It will be a long time before AOB has any good 2yo so this is the last chance at a crack at the Arc for a few years with any likely contenders. There is a lot going on at Ballydoyle and it isn’t good, they just don’t have the horses anymore until they sort out the breeding side of things. Just my tuppence worth on the subject. The Haggas horse is the best e/w value for many a year. 16/1 is still there, barely..Any way to bet on the PMU these days?

IMO SS wont make it, Henderson wont run him if hes bleeding when put under pressure and and possibly changed his training regime because of the bleed..He’ll see that at home and wont risk him..Or he will risk him and he do an Istabraq and be pulled up in front of the stands..
