    Highbury @12/1

Good chance this price will be either doible this or half it, depending on what COT and LA do on saturday, atleast one if not both will come here.

Was waiting on a horse from highburys latest win to run, the 2nd just won,

Happy to go small at 12/1, will likely play the ledger at the same price aswell

haggas said its very unlikely economics will be racing over 1m4 this year, will stick to 10f, apparantly

Obviously things can change, but haggas doesnt seem the type

Doesnt have an entry as of now

Edit: sorry he said he wont be over a 1m4 this year i misread the quote, still, no entry as of yet

In their write up of the Dante, Timeform says Economics gets a free Supplementary entry into the Irish Derby for winning the Dante.

Although I could understand them keeping to 10f for the moment as he’s not sure to get the trip. Other than the French Derby which comes too soon (not going there) he’ll have to run against his elders in a Group 1… Which isn’t ideal either given his inexperience / immaturity.

I hope they supplement Voyage for this. He’s shown today that he stays; go out, make all, game over.

Glad, he’s showed nothing there as he’s literally run the whole 1m4f carrying 9st2lb less than the rest.

He might be a decent horse but a City Of Troy he definitely isn’t. The Ballydoyle colt will win comfortably if he turns up.

GM23, there has been extensive research to show that horses run faster under a jockey. It may appear counterintuitive (as you say, when they’re riderless, they are carrying no weight) but the science says otherwise.

Just had a look at Unibet’s odds. City Of Troy is 1/1 and Matsuri is 5/1. One of those prices is the most ludicrous I have seen all season. One horse is multi Group 1 winner, and a very easy Derby winner, and the other an easy winner of a Leicester novice. Has the world gone totally mad?

Did Dr Nick Riviera do this study?

    Hi, everybody!

In response to HDLG’s question, a half-ton thoroughbred carrying 9st 2lb is roughly equivalent to a 13st man carrying 20lb on their back.

Again- the research has been done. I’m not saying that Voyage will definitely win the Irish Derby (he would need to be supplemented, anyway), but he has run further than anything else today, out in front almost the whole way, and still finished in front of the winner.

He clearly has tremendous natural ability to do that; if he were mine, he’d be going to the Curragh.

Voyage certainly proved that he loves to finish in front and doesn’t need any encouragement to do so. I reckon he’s worth following wherever he goes.

Agree Glad – he has galloped away merrily wandering about a bit and without a jockey urging him to go faster at the end of the race he has kept in front of everyone else.

Only his 2nd ever run (well technically his 2nd run) and as he has gone from a Class 2 Novice to the Derby he could very much be open to even more improvement……a lot more than the vastly more experience COT. Only time will tell if said improvement puts him on a similar level to COT or maybe even past him.

If he were mine, the Irish Derby is the logical and natural next step and being we are talking about Hannon Jnr (who ain’t shy about bigging up his horses ability and pitching them in at the deep end) I would be amazed if he isn’t in the line up and looking forward to having another crack at COT.

You’re probably right Glad. Most horses would go faster with a jockey up, because without a jockey on board nobody is urging the horse on. However, science needs to take other things into account. Many racehorses have some things in common with wild horses. Most are natural followers. some liking to be at the back of the pack, some will like to be in the middle of the pack, some will want to be just behind the leader. All of these types will run faster with a jockey on board urging them on. So the majority will run faster with a jockey on board. But a minority are natural leaders, wanting to be in front. This type will want to be in front whether having a jockey or not… And it is far easier for them to finish in front without the weight of a jockey for the whole 1m4f. We know from handicapping how weight slows a horse.
