Channel 4 TV races on the Flat turf, which I don’t usually consider until after the Guineas meeting when the new season’s form is coming through. So I don’t have much confidence in these selections today. :?

Uttoxeter a below mid-grade card on going firmer than good, where considering trainers could be worthwhile – McCain, Henderson, Twiston-Davies, E Williams, Pipe, O’Neill.

    2,000 Guineas

Frankel a racing certainty, home and hosed so I am patently wasting my time unless seeking an each-way claimer  . As in my experience speed counts in high-grade races the known fast runners in order of merit are No’s 4, 2, 11, 8 they do of course have to be race fit both physically and mentally. My overall order of merit 4, 2, 9:

Newmarket 3.10 from 6* for £class, consistency, best speed, adjusted speed, Formcast, RPR.

    1. 0*
    2. 6* Casamento
    3. 0*

Perth a better than mid-grade card on good ground. Gordon Elliott is on fire and Twiston-Davies runners can be considered. My previous form assessment is not out of line with VDW today so may have a chance. My order of merit 2, 10, 4.

Perth 4.35 by 4* from £class, consistency and ratings.

Perth 3.50 (out of 4* for £class, consistency, ratings)
A degree of caution is required with this race IMO and probably best to swerve it altogether. I have already assessed it by form and came up with 3, 5, 4, which is at odds with the VDW selections. Not only that the Daily Mail Formcast only has 3lbs seaparting the field with the exception of No 9. My VDW order of mmerit 3, 1, 8:

    1. 3* Songe
    2. 2*
    3. 3* Roudoudou
    4. 2*
    5. 3* Safari Adventure
    6. 2*
    7. 0*
    8. 3* Tartan Snow
    9. 0*
    10. 2*

Perth 3.50 a card below mid-grade and lower than yesterday on good ground. G Elloitt is the top track trainer and Nigel Twiston-Davies/Sam Twiston-Davies may be considered.

    2.20 Plan A, Renard D’Irlande, Bow Badger
2.50 Rossinin’s Dancer, Columbus Secret, Posh Bird
3.20 Lewlaur Surprise, Oscar’s Ballad, Frontier Spirit
3.50 Roudoudou Ville, Safari Adventures, Stormin Exit
4.20 Sir Bathwick, Scotch Warrior, Floreana

Exeter with just a mid-grade card on firm ground. Small fields short odds so nothing to get excited about. The best jumps meeting today is of course Sedgefield this evening. Trainers to watch here are Pipe/King/McCain.

    2.20 Freddy’s Star, Lucy’s Perfect, Timoca
2.50 Bertenbar, Piment D’Estruval, Beauchamp Viking
3.20 River Indus, Marleybow, American World
3.50 Orion Express, Bollywood, Miss Miracle
4.20 American Ladie, Sara’s Smile, Belle De Fontenay
    4.50 Rolanta, Sir Clad

Ffos Las a just about mid-grade card with going the firm side of good. Small fields so we will not get much for the risk taken. Looking for trainers to provide a lead I would say Evan Williams/Paul Maloney, Nigel Twiston-Davies/Sam Twiston-Davies, and Nicky Henderson has a first time out runner in the bumper.

    2.10 Timesawastin, Wings Of Smoke
2.45 The Good Guy, Agente Romano, Sweet World
3.20 Quedillac, Mac halen, Jacko’s Boy
3.55 Gilwen Glory, Definitely Lovely, Am I Blue
4.30 Prince Massini, Baily Storm, Circus Of Dreams
5.05 Tenby Jewel, Junior Jack, Head Hunted
5.40 Dancing Emily, One Term, (Top Of The Range)

I assessed the Irish Grand National but failed to arrive at any firm conclusion. From a valuation of four stars* 5, 17, 20 may be considered in that order from the short end of the market:

    5. 2* Quantativeeasing
    17. 2* Some Target
    20. 2* Organisedconfusion

Nothing to get excited about today ‘twixt and ‘tween seasons as we are and with the going being difficult for jumping runners too. Might be best to leave it to the trainers and those they decide to run on the ground, and today that would have to be Evan Williams/Paul Maloney with Lava Lamp, Alla Svelta, Peaceful Means:

    Plumpton
2.00 Highly Regal, Lava Lamp, Always De One
2.35 Health Is Wealth, Catholic Hill
    3.10 Alla Svelta, Jeczmien
3.45 Wait No More, And Your Point Is, Gleanacreim
4.15 Just Beware, The Bishops Baby, Screaming Brave
4.45 Ilongue, High Oscar, Bajan Sunshine
5.15 Insignia, Laughing Game, Storm Command

Sandown 3.50 and not a race VDW would possibly advise at this stage of the Flat as he indicated 4yo+ hcaps for a couple of months into the season, however it is about the best class on offer.
4 stars* max for £class, consistency and ratings with no further assessment:

    1. 3* Auld Burns
    4. 4* Dordogne
    5. 1*
    7. 1*
    9. 3* Measuring Time
    10. 1*

My personal order of merit = Dordogne, Auld Burns, Measuring time

Just resurrected this thread mainly because I feel too idle to compile a detailed form assessment for the race

Sandown 3.10 by my interpretation of the VDW ‘elementary mechanical procedure’ nothing more.
