    Evening VTC

Looks like your hitting form at just the right time, always nice to see.

Plenty of decent hits, that ante-post portfolio looks very promising at this stage.

Lots to discuss over the coming weeks, all the dreams still alive.

Messaged you at the other place, like your opinion on a couple things.

    Take it easy.

I see your point now Droffats.

“Next to useless” was my comment, nothing to do with the OP.

There is a great thread on here titled “Bryony”,highlighting a jockey who is riding at the top of her game, week in week out,I share those sentiments.

I have yet to see her reply,no doubt she is a regular here and will be along shortly to respond.

We also have an “extremely promising 7lb conditional jockey”,an opinion.

This is a sport where opinions will be divided, whether horse / trainer / jockey / handicapping etc

Long that may continue, but that opinion surely must cover both the positives /negatives.

My opinion is based on years of race watching, not one ride by the jockey in question.

Cliques are not the problem here.

    Hi Droffats

Very interesting ride, not so “unlucky” to these eyes,I think she finnished exactly where required.Minimal effort the whole way round, including up the home straight.

Her profile is intriguing,I do wonder if she will be put away until spring, especially if we get slower ground some time soon. Her run at newbury back in February, in another hot handicap, was just as promising. Not sure she will go up much after that, what I did like was the fact her best work seemed late on,suggesting she would have no problem getting 2m 4f.

The first two home in the mares hurdle this year, day 1 festival, were rated 147 and 145 respectively, that 151 or similar would not put me off should she go there later in the season,no surprise if she is way better than what we have seen. One to tuck away in the notebook, major interest wherever entered, looks very ground dependant on what we have seen.Well spotted.

Few caught the eye in behind, worth remembering Mohaayed was tailed off in this race last year, that did him no harm further down the line.Often thought of this race, and Hennessey later this month,as really good pointers for yards to assess just where their horses stand handicap wise.Nightmare punting wise no doubt, but its a big part of the puzzle that is easily overlooked in the heat of battle.

As for your jockey comment, aye he is next to useless, but so too was Tinkler.Very odd when we consider they have a jockey coach attached to the yard, perhaps like Verdana he is work in progress.

Morning …..Looks tricky day 1 at HQ

Stuck in a caravan down by the new forest, access limited to everything, not ideal.

Jameson interests me in the first, fto and stepped up in trip,a race where the yard have tried this a few times before. Not disgraced couple times round here, will need a decent round, giving weight, nice type.

Plenty in the second race that appeal, not just for today. The pin has landed on the moore horse Kapdad, been put in against some decent horses, suggesting they think a bit of him.The younger brigade generally had the edge in past renewals, not one to get too involved.

Shanahans Turn gets the vote in race three, tailed off last year, this time he comes here on the back of an eyecatching return. This too sharp on all known form, just wondering if they will try him from the front, fine jumper as he showed at Aintree.

Some nice types in the novice chase, looks decent renewal.

Not had a wager in tomorrows feature, slightly cooled on RDS following those two efforts, well handicapped but a strange prep. The two that appeal long term are Baron Alco and M Whitaker,no surprise if either takes a step forward, just favour the moore horse on these terms.Guitar Pete still looks well treated, poor ride when he won last term,he might outrun those odds.

No Cepage / Aso,the former remains on the radar,no surprise if she stays right handed early doors.

Impressed with SOG over hurdles, that could be a plan long term, looks a tad too quick for him at present.

    Keep an eye on yours.

    Evening

One of those two was backed from 16/1 to 7/2 on the machine, the other went from around 22 last night to 80 at one point just before the off.

You have a 50% chance of getting it right, actually nearer 99% chance in reality.Watching those markest when we have the time can be a real eyeopener,a game within a game, something I took out of last season. If it looks too good to be true, generally in this sport,it is.Left a little on both, just about even on this seasons efforts,a hurdle winner feels like xmas come early.

I like the yard too, always have done, the pilot in question is by no means the finnished article, hence the claim,I like to see them when its real tough going,he looks very well balanced and not the flail type.Go back to Pacha when ridden by the cycling tart, amazing how they respond when ridden quietly.

The stewards have enquired into the Awake At Midnight bet,on this occasion it has been noted.Should any further bets at such prohibitive odds be struck,TRF will come down hard, there is a line that cannot be crossed,5/1 is very close  you owe Hutchinson a beer, truly awful ride on the 2nd,par for the course with him.WP

Some very interesting entries in the pertemps qualifier tomorrow. The one I give a sqeak to is Clondaw Cian,133 looks about right, his comeback run was full of promise.Did not really take to chasing, this looks much more like his game,a look back at his record in November prior to last year reads well. His victory couple seasons back at HQ was impressive, around 16s,that looks a little too high IF he,s on a going day.

Saw the Clan Des Obeaux bet, think alot depends on the ground,my initial thought was Henessey off a reasonable weight, time will tell. Not so sure they will go Haydock if real slow, not at this stage of his career, hope it stays ok up there for your wager.

WP with Outsam, that looked mighty tricky race beforehand, not for me.

What is it with staying chasers ? Touched on it a couple times last year, has to be something there that we are missing, does the form stand up more,or does jumping play a more significant part the further they go ?Whatever way those races over a distance appear to make up a high % of hits during a season, any thoughts?

Two pertemps qualifiers in 3 days, that has to be a rarity. Both look well supported prior to overnight decs, without any rain not so sure many will want to risk them this early in the season.See Wait For Me is entered at newbury on thursday, interesting if he gets the nod, there is another entry that appeals, just need to see he,s there tomorrow.

On to chepstow tomorrow, one of my favourite tracks, love the chase track in particular, plenty seems to happen over those last 5 fences. Not for the faint hearted if your involved at the business end.

No bets yet, will watch the markets closely as I,m around tomorrow.Couple running from the notebook, the jonjo horse in the 2-35 Django Django must have a squeak if the handbrakes off,5 yr olds over a trip come with a wealth warning normally, marmite stable for most, the application of wonga normally a good sign.

3-10 Floresco looks nicely treated, couple of completions already, his record suggests much better left handed, the mark again looks lenient on known hurdle form.Pretty sure they will want him up there early if the moneys down, backers will know their fate early if held up out the back.

Rain dance for Donny,gs will be fine, like one in the big handicap if there at 24 hr stage.

First race at chepstow for conditionals, keep an eye out for Venetias young lad, caught the eye couple times last season, well worth present claim, she has put him up on some decent animals already, never a bad sign.

    Catch up soon.

    Many thanks TKF

Not to be yesterday, lowest mark for couple seasons and the headgear was the angle.Quirky bugger who threw away the race at Aintree last season, was waiting for him to get the hood re-applied,that may still be the case later in the season.Fine jumper, precious few miles on the clock, might go down a few more following that, not given up on him just yet.

The other two not sighted, those peanuts had a little salt rubbed into them.

Early days, lots to look forward too as the season gathers pace, onwards.

Yep,can see the attraction with his hurdle mark.Have a little history with him,2016 scottish national at decent odds, travelled real well, brought down 6 from home, looking like he had plenty in the tank. Not getting any younger, his run behind the General was mighty unlucky, good spot.

Baron Alco does intrigue me,I have followed the stable closely for many seasons, they used to train very near to me before they moved.Agree with your comments on main thread, thought he might get a gentle re-intro at chepstow.Obviously not,the winner is a very good horse on his day, that should put him spot on,whether he has enough in hand remains the question, connections think he has, good luck to them.

If I had to choose one this far out,it would not be him.Romain De Senam would be the choice, one of nine for PFN,who like many, targets this race with some decent horses. He ran a corker last year in those conditions, not giving best until the home turn, off 145.If he takes his chance this year,he warrants close inspection off 138.Should we get half decent ground,he must be a player.

Looks very decent entry, more than happy to wait until 24 hr decs before a wager.

See Monbeg has an entry in the Hennessey, that final run was a real eyecatcher last season. No surprise if there is more to come from him in the staying division, very likeable horse with bundles of stamina.Plenty of options at home, an Aintree entry would not be the biggest shock, another to keep onside this season.

Sure you have seen the Elliot bit on RP site, great pics of the Tiger in his box.Not giving much away, saying he will be sticking to x-country races.Do wonder if that has been the making of him jumping wise,he looks to have improved markedly, just need him to stay sound, grand horse.

Those shortlists get longer by the day

Well done with the “Don”,excellent ride I thought, again the younger jockey looked stronger over a distance.

Zarib was never involved,as hoped, not knocked about turning in,he remains of interest once sights lowered.

The Aintree hurdle was interesting,Forecast was a real eyecatcher in third,he must go close very soon off current mark. Not quite as eyecatching as Eaton Hill,I,m sure that effort will not have escaped you, theres a 2m 4f handicap on the december card they might consider. That effort at Ascot last year where he looked un-rideable,still lives in the memory, covered most of the track, still not beaten far.Do not think he will be going right handed anytime soon, radar wherever entered.

Betvic entries out earlier, there is one that surprised me,a horse that really could be anything.Cepage from the williams yard, looked a real improver at kempton last march, then followed up with a decent run at HQ.Not the most straight forward, sweats up pre race, but a fine jumper, very near the top of this seasons horses to follow.I thought he might go straight 3m,this could be a sighter for later in campaign.

Pertemps Qualifier…….The widescreen TV may be required on replay, I saw enough from The Eaglehaslanded to think this might be the year he realises his potential.Blew away a field here 2 seasons back, went up a stone, still looked beyond his mark, then got injured.Never been the same since, but pumpkin has kept him, which tells me that talent is still there. If this is the plan, will need to qualify somewhere, hopefully outside top 3,currently off 138,that looks ideal.Decent ground might be the key, just like to see him stay fit.

Still wading through Cheltenham, sitting on the hands as we speak, plenty good racing just around the corner.

    Laters :bye:

At least your out in the country, still on the platform here

Great shout with Sykes, cheered him on after the last, gutted for you when they showed print.

Not too much to shout about yesterday, both days felt a little guessy,no doubt there will be a few to take out once sifted through replays.

Based on that,be giving today a miss,a couple I will be watching with interest.

1-20 Zarib……Outsider of the whole field, joined this yard from the skeltons, really looked a good horse as a 4 yr old, then seemed to lose his way completely.Similar to Guitar Pete in many ways,we touched on him early last season, when they are trained hard at such a young age, their form can tail off so quickly. Now in calmer waters, dropped to 120,interesting to see if any of that talent remains, hopefully somewhere further down the line.

2-25 Eaton Hill…… Touched off in April,he really should have won that day.Best work after the last,he looks a young horse with plenty of potential,no surprise he,s back here today, plenty of entries this week.Back at 2m 4f today, could go either way, keen to see him stepped up at some point, one for the notebook whatever happens later.

Two nutted in 2 days, your due today, catch up next week, with a dark one for the pertemps final thrown in.

    Perfectly summed up Moe

What looked tricky, turned out exactly that way from this end.Plenty support for the Minstrel early doors, then the drift before the off, never really threatened.
Muckle Roe was not disgraced, given a fine ride once again, this pilot really does look top drawer amongst the amateurs.Devastating for the rider who ran out after the last, did everything right up to that point, they need to rethink the use of tape, surely removing the plastic railings from the bend,to a straight line, is the simplest answer.
Shoal bay simply looked first beat, man of plenty remains competitive off current mark, very hard to work out his optimum distance/track,plenty decent runs right handed.
Day 2 looks just as tight, plenty like yesterday will need the run.
Just the one bet at present,in the opener Dell Arca looks overpriced compared to some.Had him down as a dark horse for the 3m chase handicap day 1 of the festival, they stuck him in the pertemps despite his higher hurdle rating, very odd.
142 hardly looks a gift, but his run at Listowel was eyecatching, travelled well, jumped cleanly, not given a hard time up the home straight. With fitness on his side, hope scu can nurse him into the action around the final bend.

Pertemps Qualifier always a decent renewal, the murphy yard have 2 entered, both could be well ahead of current marks,Perfect Man would be a tentative choice, the tongue tie has helped, today he gets the cheekpieces. If there was a non ride of the month, his last effort would surely be vying for favouritism,I will watch the market here nearer race-time.

Very close with VB VTC,your on a roll which is always good to see, best of luck Moe,TKF and anyone else playing today.
