I agree Paul Townend really is going to go straight to the top, its a pitty about Rubys hard luck with injuries but it has given Paul a chance to show just how good he is on the big stage. I somehow dont think Willie Mullins is as concerned as Paul Nicholls over Rubys return to fitness before Cheltenham, I dont think any trainner would mind having Townend on their horse no matter how big the race he looks pure class and still very young, skys the limit id say!!

Another top class jockey from the emerald isle production line!!

Why u bringing ur Ex to the races mate and paying for her ticket. Did she not cost you enough cash before she was your ex!! I know its not the point but you should of got her to pick up the £3 racecard haha!!

I feel your anger though, it was the same at punchestown this year on champion hurdle day, i brought my missus and it cost me a fortune for the day even with a couple of winners!! To start two reserved encolsure tickets, about 80 quid i think to get through the gate if i remeber correctly. At the time i was finishing my last degree so i had a student card, therefore i enquired if there was a 10% student discount as for the normal passes and the old fella on the gate looked at me as if i had ten heads and was truly rude to the point i got quite worked up myself and my missus had to push me through the gate before i lost it with him. A simple ‘no sir im afraid not’ would of sufficed instead of insinuating i was cheap or not worthy of a reserved enclosure ticket!! I think the racecards where 2 or 3 euro extra aswell!! It wouldnt put me off going again as its a day out and a good laugh but it certainly didnt get the day off and the right note nor did the fact that the whole racecourse had sold out of bulmers (magners) cider before the biggest day of the meeting. All that was on offer was sour guinness or warm plastic bottles of carlsberg for 5 euro a pop each!! :x :x

You expect to pay a little more for a beer at events but you should at least be able to enjoy it somewhat or at least have a good selection so you can order what you want!!

Haha im not isnulting the guy, we all know how good he is and a big ego and some arrogance is something all great champions have. Il grant you he is modest to an extent as he usually says ohter peole say hes a good jockey he never admits it himself!!

Im just saying that AP winning the spoty wont help racing as much as people are making out!! TV ratings wont go through the roof, racecourses wont be full to capacity and there will not be any great increase in interest for the sport in the long term. What i would say is it wont hurt the sport if he wins, but it certainly wont spark the renasaissance that some are predicting!!

Why dont we all make ourselves a few quid for the holidays and devise a little scam, we are all mostly betting men and punters!! Lets campaign David Haye at 100/1 on this site. Theres nearly 10,000 members on this site so if we all vote for him several times and get all our friends and family to vote for him and smash him up at 100/1 the night of the show we all could be having a very happy new year.
Lets face it its how asian syndicates have been making millions for years. E.g Ulrika Johnson winning big brother at 40/1, being booed on way out while her and audience all shouted its a fix. Not to mention giggys last year!! Unfortuanetly i have a feeling members on here may be all too concerned with moral value and the beloved AP. Well AP cares about no one but himself, he wouldnt vote for you!! And it wont help racing one bit, it will just make AP more egotitstic, arrogant and be another shiney trophy on his cabinet!! He is one of the greatest jump jockey of all time though dont get me wrong.

cant honestly believe what I am reading on the RACING FORUM!! Of COURSE we must vote for AP. The man is a legend and will be remembered for eternity as one. Up there with Piggot and Sir Gordon.

ONEEYE you should be ashamed of yourself. Clearly not a racing man so why are you on this forum? Graeme McDowell??!! For winning one tournament? He didnt even win the money list? Mind boggling.

If those of us that follow racing wont vote for him he has absolutely no chance. Sad.

Get a grip of yourself son. McCoy for what… winning one race (the National)?

You obviously haven’t got a clue about sport if you think McDowell only won one tournament so I’ll forgive you for this pathetic reply to what I wrote.

Come back when you have some knowledge and I’ll give your posts the respect they might deserve.

You get some really pleasant people on this site dont you? Of course ONEEYE McCoy only won that one race. Silly of me. Whats he ever really done eh? Surprised he got nominated really.

I bet you have noone at home to moan to so you come on here. Pathetic little man.

Haha tensions really are running high on this thread, why are we all getting so pissed off over this spoty pantomine!!

Im guilty too ive posted here a few times too and ruffled a few feathers. I am baffled how much something so trivial thats not even a true racing subject has us all at loggerheads, yet most of the racing threads on here potray a theme of understanding and respect for other peoples opinions!! :? :?

This is good fun though we should insult each other a bit more, and i think it shows that despite how good McCoy is alot of people just dont like the guy, hes cursed as often as hes praised in betting shops and I think this thread reflects that!!

I must say hurricane fly was mighty impressive today. Unfortuantely i didnt have quite such a good day as I nearly got physically sick when Micheal D’agneut fell at Fairyhouse as i had a fourfold accumulater with winners in 3 of the previous races including hurricane fly that was about to earn me around 3,500 euro from my 50 euro bet, was about to have a very merry xmas but it wasnt to be!!

I totally agree robbie, ladbrokes website must be one of the worst online of any bookies. Since they no longer show their odds on oddschecker i no longer bet with them as i only have an online a/c with paddypower, if ladbrokes early prices were better in the past i used to pop over the road and use my odds on card!! I dont see why they would no longer show their odds on comparison sites as i read an article that said their busines had improved from been on oddschecker!! :? :?

I shall vote for AP McCoy. I do realise that after being regarded as a reasonably intelligent person for the last few decades I shall instantly become a “retard” (thanks Bluechariot) or a “nerd” (Venusian). I suppose I am beyond the pale in thinking that Ryan Giggs has a personality (fitzer1987), or that Muhammed Ali was a great sports personality and the most brilliant boxer ever despite never having fought against an Australian, Brazilian, Chilean, Dane ….. Zambian (ReasonoverFaith).

Some people on this thread, on both sides of the argument, are treating this much too seriously. It’s a TV programme for goodness sake.

For me it’s just an opportunity to give a bloke a vote for competing in a hard tough sport in such a relentless, determined, never-say-die manner. To me that smacks of great personality. Personality doesn’t always mean speaking charmingly to the public at large, or projecting a civilized outlook on life. Sometimes personality is about being thrown from the top of a half-ton horse into the ground at thirty miles an hour three times in an hour and a half, and then having the guts to get on a horse in the next race and be determined to give it the best ride possible despite the potential pain. That’s personality. I may not like everything the man says or does, but my respect is huge. He is easily the most deserving of the ten candidates.

Is what you are describing here as personality not more what one would call mentality!!

    Absolutely not.

Graeme McDowell is far more deserving of the SPotY award this year.

For one, McDowell is a personality. Secondly, McDowell also won one of the most prestigious events in his calendar… except he was a big outsider and beat 150 other competitors. He also won other big events throughout the year and was a massive contributer in Europe winning the third biggest sporting event in the world.

Having said that, dull McCoy did win a few selling hurdles this year as well as being totally boring in a couple of ATR interviews.

The reality is this. Only people who love horse racing will vote for McCoy (and that may well be enough), whereas people who follow sport avidly will vote for McDowell.

I won’t even watch the event… McDowell is the winner by a country mile in my own opinion, but at the same time, I appreciate that the British voting public are thick as f***.

Again another man with a logical opinion instead of if you love racing you must vote AP, blah, blah blah
