Is the angler you’re thinking of Bob Nudd? Subject of a campaign from

    Angling Times

and the like to take the 1991 renewal of SPOTY.

cant honestly believe what I am reading on the RACING FORUM!! Of COURSE we must vote for AP. The man is a legend and will be remembered for eternity as one. Up there with Piggot and Sir Gordon.

ONEEYE you should be ashamed of yourself. Clearly not a racing man so why are you on this forum? Graeme McDowell??!! For winning one tournament? He didnt even win the money list? Mind boggling.

If those of us that follow racing wont vote for him he has absolutely no chance. Sad.

Get a grip of yourself son. McCoy for what… winning one race (the National)?

You obviously haven’t got a clue about sport if you think McDowell only won one tournament so I’ll forgive you for this pathetic reply to what I wrote.

Come back when you have some knowledge and I’ll give your posts the respect they might deserve.

Despite decades looking at computer screens, I am still learning about the world of forums, instant communications and, especially, the acronyms. A quick google leaves me with several options, but I guess that HTH is not Heavy Transport Helicopter, Hand to Hand (in combat games), How the Hell, so it must be Hope That Helps. It did. Thanks.

Bemusing responses on this thread and a near 1-2 vote against McCoy.

On a horse racing forum. One well known for being a jumps-biased forum too.

After the lukewarm – and in one case, bizarre – responses on the petition thread last week, I’m beginning to wonder what’s happening on this forum.

I bet you have noone at home to moan to so you come on here. Pathetic little man.

I wouldn’t lose any sleep over it, Max! Although it looks like a good working majority against McCoy, the framing of the question – like many referenda – pretty much had that result built into it.

I imagine there are quite a few people like me who pressed the "no" button, not because we don’t admire McCoy, not because we’re disloyal to Racing, but because we profoundly dislike this specious and tacky form of vox pop. Like most other people, I won’t be voting against McCoy. I won’t be voting at all. So the question says nothing, and means less.

If I needed any final straw of encouragement not to vote, the direct email I had this morning from

    Racing for Change

exhorting me to do so ensured I’d have nothing to do with this particular one-ring circus. If they want me to vote, then I most certainly won’t.

(How on earth Rod Street got my email address I don’t know, though I’m inclined to point the moral finger at Sandown Park.)

    Spot on

Had there been an ‘Abstain’ or ‘Couldn’t care less will be watching Poirot on ITV3’ button to click I daresay many of the nays would have chosen that

I’ll raise your specious and tacky with a meretricious and tawdry. Full set, ’nuff said :)

Yep, the question wasn’t meant as the pro/anti McCoy vote it’s kind of turned out as – It was meant more a question of will you be voting and as a starter for ten for some debate on the matter in light of racing’s almost overwhelming zeal in publicising and campaigning on behalf of AP.

But you are right Pinza – the question was poorly framed really.

Million quid a year sports people who cant accept criticism or who wont communicate with their fans deserve f*** all, imo.

He should try a night in casualty over Christmas, grafting for real money. Might knock some of the childishness off of him.

A tacky form of vox pox that has been going since the 1950’s and has been won by some true legends whose attendance I assume means they didnt feel that it was in the least specious or tacky.

Still if it is beneath some on here, fair enough. David Suchet IS a fine Poirot! Enjoy!

Very rare I disagree with Mssr’s Pinza and Drone, but I do here. And no, Corm, I’m not sure your question was badly phrased – people aren’t stupid here by any means, however much their responses surprise.

The BBC under Roger Mosey treated horse racing as badly as they’ve treated any sport in their history. Carrying out savage cuts in broadcast coverage, long partnerships (particularly Goodwood and Haydock) were severed at a stroke. When the courses complained and virtually

    begged

for reconsideration, the BBC shrugged their shoulders, sipped a collective Cappuccino, and spent forty odd million on motor racing, a pointless frippery, but a favourite of Roger Mosey, then BBC Head of Sport and a noted horse racing critic.

Now, when they do deign to show racing, they cherry pick events which, to be completely frank, should go to Channel Four because at least they showcase the rest of the sport. From my point of view as a licence payer, I’m furious at their choices. They invest large amounts of OUR money into trivialities like snooker and darts and, as you gentlemen all know, are

    obsessed

    with football.

When you take into account the context, voting McCoy as a representative of horse racing and watching him win would make quite a few people in Shepherd’s Bush squirm. And that’s good enough for me.

To be fair, given the number of injuries he’s had, if there’s one hospital department Mr McCoy’s quite used to, it’ll be Casualty!

Nope. He’s handled himself appallingly in relation to the RUK situation, imo. Gone down a lot in my estimation.

A million quid a year to do what you love to do and your whinging over a bit of measured analysis, depriving fans of the sport in the process. Get over yourself bigman.

The idea that racing will be somehow transformed if he wins it, is right up there with large numbercloths and decimal odds.

Sweet Jesus, give me strength. :?

I can understand people not voting because they think the programme is a waste of space but you making AP out to be some sort of spoiled brat is nonsense.

Man is nothing like what you say and if he was he certainly wouldn’t be within a million miles of JP McManus or Jonjo O’Neill

In my world having a job you like and earning money does not take way the right to defend yourself when someone has a go at you.

You coming across like a male Lydia Hyslop mate and would probably be as popular as she is in the weighing room.

15 long years he has reigned supreme and won just about everything there is to win. AP could have retired 5 years ago and still be remembered as one of the greatest jockeys of all time and never had to worry about money for the rest of his life, but he is so dedicated to the sport he loves he contunues to risk life and limb on a dailly bases and bringing thousands of racing people great entertainment.

But you think he doesn’t deserve it because he told some media people who were not only trying to tell him how to do is his job but were all but accusing him of cheating to go and get stuffed.

You’re right about one thing Carv

Great post Fist. May I add that I have worked with many of the top jocks and they always say that AP is their inspiration. And they all make the point of saying that its not just as a jockey but as a human being. They cannot speak highly enough of him. They dont call him AP, they call him the Champ.

Haha tensions really are running high on this thread, why are we all getting so pissed off over this spoty pantomine!!

Im guilty too ive posted here a few times too and ruffled a few feathers. I am baffled how much something so trivial thats not even a true racing subject has us all at loggerheads, yet most of the racing threads on here potray a theme of understanding and respect for other peoples opinions!! :? :?

This is good fun though we should insult each other a bit more, and i think it shows that despite how good McCoy is alot of people just dont like the guy, hes cursed as often as hes praised in betting shops and I think this thread reflects that!!
