I lost about what you were about to gain and was counting the sheckles. Ruined my day I can tell you

As far as Mikey goes he looked like he was saying can we please go a bit faster. Given a good gallop he’ll be some horse so hopefully it’s a temporary loss.
Was really pleased with Hurricane Fly although why on earth he didn’t go sooner on Solwhit I have no idea. Pretty much played right into Hurricane Fly’s hands. Had he turned the screw a bit earlier he may well have found Hurricane Fly out who for me looked like he really needed that run. He never found quite as much as expected considering how well he was going but now the cobwebs are gone it will take some horse to stop him going all the way.
We might yet see the Willie Mullins Festival double that looked a distinct possibility 2 seasons back.

Anyone who thinks
Cue Card
will ever win a Champion hurdle is deluding themselves, the horse typifies whats known as a bridle horse and he finds nothing when he comes off it! He may have a similar physical look to Arkle but thats as close as the comparison will ever be! I wouldn"t be so sure he is the good thing some think he is for the Supreme either, again if anything gets to him he will fold! TAPK knows!

Wish you would stop using that phrase :"Bridle horse " you obviuosly haven’t a clue what it means.
A bridle horse is a horse who doesn’t want to know when asked to quicken past other horses.
Did Cue Card look like a bridle horse when Joe Tizzard hit him a slap down the neck and ask him to quicken in the Cheltehnam Bumper?
Lack of strength and stamina is what made him stop like he did. This happens a lot to young horses and they don’t see the trip out properly in top class races until they fill out properly.
Read what Colin Tizzrd said and it backs up exactly what I am saying.
Big plus was he was found out at Cheltenham and even if he never finds enough stamina to win a Champion Hurdle he’ll be a tough nut to crack round places like Newbury Aintree etc.
I wouldn’t run him in the Supreme…..waste of time and not enough time for him to mature properly IM0. If this was the flat and SMS trained him you wouldn’t see him again this season.

It’s one thing guessing a horse wasn’t 100% after a race but you can’t beat a bit of confirmation from someone in the know.
It was like music to my ears reading what Ruby Walsh had to say about Willie Mullins being surprised that Hurrican Fly beat a very fit Solwhit.
If that’s him when he’s not fully fit I can’t wait to see what he’s capable of when he is 100%.
Confidence is growing by the minute
Roll on Cheltenham.December 19, 2010 at 08:32 #333197Fist were you up early, or had you got gone to bed; all those posts in the dark hours. What did Ruby say about Hurricane Fly?

Ruby Walsh can barely contain his enthusiasm for Hurricane Fly after his victory in the much-rearranged Hatton’s Grace Hurdle at Fairyhouse on Wednesday.
Walsh, currently on the sidelines with a broken leg, would have ridden Willie Mullins’ five-time Grade One winner.
Hurricane Fly has had a series of niggling injuries which have forced him to miss the last two Cheltenham Festivals, but Walsh is hoping he has a clear run this season.
"This is probably the first time in a long time Willie has had no hold ups with him. Last year, before he went to Punchestown, he’d had a hold up through the winter whereas this year things have gone really right for him," said Walsh.
"His Flat form is very good. He could have gone for the Champion Stakes and the Arlington Million with him, he’s a high-class Flat horse but he loves jumping and has a great attitude.
"Willie was surprised he beat a race-fit Solwhit, but that’s the regard he holds Solwhit in.
"The trip was never going to be an issue. I won a two-three hurdle race in France on him as a four-year-old.
"He’s a wonderful little horse. He has loads of speed and he stays."
December 19, 2010 at 12:42 #333222Ruby is correct.
If Hurricane Fly turns up at Cheltenham, fit and well, he will win i think, fantastic horse.
December 19, 2010 at 14:13 #333229Have to agree that if the Fly turns up at his peak it’s hard to see him being beaten. He’s faster than any of the rest, better turn of foot, never came out on the wrong side of a battle, and he stays brilliantly too to cap it all off. I’m on Peddler’s Crossa t a nice price but if this fella turns up it’s difficult to see him beaten imho.

Must say I am a huge fan of Peddlars Cross as well who looks every bit a Champion Hurdle horse but if I was asked which has the better form so far, Hurricane Fly defeating a fit Solwhit or Peddlars Cross beating an unfit Binocular I would have to go with the former.
Many brilliant young hurdlers never quite make it in the senior ranks as the rise in class is so massive but this horse scares the hell out of me. Unbeaten and improving with every run Peddlar’s Cross is going to be one tough nut to crack.
As I amnttioned before I can’t get it into my head Menorah being favourite.
Most of the top contenders will have one or two runs before the big day it will be interesting to see how much the betting changes as each of them run.

I’m in Bangkok where the clock go backwards

It’s 12.09am as I post
January 11, 2011 at 22:22 #335508cant have dunguib at all. he’s beaten trees all his life and cant jump, the jock took too much stick last year by folk who did their money, all last years irish novices were poor by normal standards – he was just the best of them. cue card has nearly got as close to menorah as he did and he has only had 3 starts.
i think cue card will finish nearer to menorah than last time, i dont believe he stopped, just thought he got done for toe at a crucial stage and he kept on well for 2nd imho a stronger gallop will defo suit, and i cant belive folk are writing him off allready. if he were to reproduce that run in the supreme he would win 10 lengths. still think binocular the one to beat. in 3 championship races round chelts he’s got better and better each time and you know he will be lots better than these jog and sprint trial races – hes proven, and jumps better than anything in the field, which is a trait people dont focus enough on in this race for example hurricane fly maybe the second coming but hes never had to jump and travel as fast as will be required and his overall form does not match up to binoculars cheltenham form yet, but to be fair he has yet to have the opportunity, but on balance i think binocular should be favourite and will win
January 11, 2011 at 22:33 #335509cant have dunguib at all. he’s beaten trees all his life
Oscar Whisky must be the fastest tree ever.
January 11, 2011 at 22:58 #335513fair point, oscar whisky was only having his 4th run of his life, dunguib wouldnt get near him now. i was really referring to all the poor novice hurdlers he was trouncing over and over in ireland last year before getting beaten when having to jump at pace the first time. he’s 8yo now and had too many runs to eek out sufficient improvement to get near the 1st 3 in a champion. id fancy him more against big bucks than i would against binocular et al
January 12, 2011 at 05:54 #335524They didn’t go that faster a clip in the Supreme and given his position in the race it was a contest that was run to suit those up with the pace. I’m hopeful that him being fresher this year will make all the difference. I’m on him at 20s which I feel given how the Supreme has worked out is a price with mileage in it.
January 20, 2011 at 19:27 #336895Have to agree with youre assessment of Peddlers cross, i really think he is a magnificent animal, with a very decent price for this race considering his form. However, iI have always been a big fan of menorah and i think that if it comes down to a battle between him and hurricane fly i reckon he will have a bit more than the fly
January 20, 2011 at 22:04 #336926This analysis is spot on! I’ve been following The Fly since they sent him to France to race. He’s a superstar in waiting, no doubt about it. I’ve bet him every time since and properly smashed him at skinny odds as well. He travels like a train and his turn of foot is incredible. Binocular won like the champ the other day but he’s yet to encounter anything like Hurricane Fly. He’s a machine! Binocular will not get away from Hurricane Fly as he will track Binocular on the bridle. He’ll arrive at the base of the hill full of running and quicken immediately. He’ll pull away in a breathtaking fashion. Mark my words. I’ve taken the £250 win 7/1 Stan James (refunded if Binocular wins) and backed him again at 5/1. Bold claim for a Champion Hurdle this… "He’ll bolt up!". He’s very, very special indeed. The best 2m hurdler in training, he just hasn’t needed to show it yet. He win at Cheltenham. Get on!
January 22, 2011 at 16:54 #337251In response to Putitup,Hurricane Fly and meneroh?? There can only be one winner there mate, and it wont be Menorah!
January 23, 2011 at 15:21 #337387Hard to believe that Hurricane Fly has been shortened up. Why? His jumping was pretty ponderous at times and slightly out to the right and although he beat Solwhit (who is 33/1 for the Champion) comfortably didn’t seem to find a massive amount off the bridle. Personally, I think he will need to find something to finish in the three at Cheltenham.
