This is truly what racing is all about! Can’t tell you how pleased I am for the connectons of this horse, and I’m sure they’re not the sort of people to have £20,000 to spend on treatment for him. It was a fairytale when he ran that big race in the Hennessy and even more so today. Great stuff!

Was great to see him win.

I myself had a good bit on HG and Miko de beuchene ew.Went with the 2 proven course specialists. HG ran no sort of race and was beaten a mile out. Old MDB got me my losses back though and it was good to see him run a big race.

Backed aran concerto and schindlers hunt ew in ireland too.

Fancy an upset in that…hope one of them get involved in it.

I live in the GARNOCK VALLEY.

I do believe the connections had a horse called RIVER GARNOCK too.

Was pleased for Laventure too.I remember she collapsed at ayr after the scottish national one year….and everyone was over the moon when she got up.Shes been running well lately this season and if chepstow was a bog at xmas and she got in i wouldnt be adverse to parting with a few quid at big odds.

Our vic though was superb yesterday.Thought he was beat but the quirky old warrior kept on well.

I just hope the big horse can get into a decent rythm on saturday and we could get something of the old tank back.

Gutted that i wont see it live on saturday due to follow following my team to aberdeen…but i hope to come back in at night, turn on the sky+ and see a Denman destruction job.

Personally i can see it between killyglen and barbers shop tho….it will take a monumental performance from Denman. :(

How great would it be though if the 2 icons of the staying chaser division got to the GC in the form of their lives(throw in the likes of cooldine,IC etc),we could have a GC to savour.

    Forever the optimist :D

At least half of my saturday was good!!! :D

    What a performance.

    That cant be good.

GOOOO KAUTO!!!!!!! Love absolutely LOVE that horse!! What a star. He was tired out his legs so heavy them last few furlongs yet still gave it his all and went on to win. Good performance from imperial commander. Brave effort. Kauto will only get better for that run, bring on the King George and then the GOLD CUP!!

    What you said :D .

Every champion has to have great heart to go with their class…..Kauto has heart in abundance.Running on empty 3 out….and still won.King george number 4 surely a formality.Gold cup number 3 to follow.

I’m on Imperial Commander for this as well. As mentioned in the Ante-Post bets thread, I find it hard to believe he isn’t half the price.

I’ve just noticed that Albertas Run has an entry in the 2m3f G2 on Saturday, and I was wondering whether there was a chance he might end up in this?

AR is nowhere near quick enough for the Ryanair. I’ve backed him for the GC at 200/1 though

Nowhere near good enough for a gold cup either barring a catastrophe unfortunately.Always had a soft spot for albertas run as well.

Id say that was spot on r.e bad jumpers. For instance Straw bear over fences…rarely if ever on the deck but was in the air for about 5min at his fences. Then look at Moscow flyer for example….superb jumper but prone to howlers(or BG just failing to hang on whatever angle you think :P ).I just think big Zeb in his 2 big tests has been let down by his jumping…and needs to convince me.

I’m not sure that people have got their heads around yet how Heavy the going will be – there’s a meteorological BEWARE warning for the Merseyside area, and they are expecting in excess of an inch of rain on both Thursday and Friday (this when the going report is already Soft, Heavy in places). [Admittedly, the BEWARE warning may be more due to the gales.]

Can’t make my mind up about how much of that stone in hand Kauto will have been prepped for. On one hand, it is his seasonal debut, on the other he’s only having the two runs before Cheltenham.

Also, the horse didn’t run at Down Royal, when that was the plan.

What is the story behind that non-appearance?

Scared of having a hard race against Notre Pere?

The bonus for winning this, the King George and the Gold Cup got changed last year, didn’t it? Something to do with the GN. What is the Betfair Bonus scheme this year?

I must admit to fearing for Kauto this week,he hates haydock..no doubt about it imo. Also has to take on the leikes of notre pere in a bog.Add that to Kauto probably not being fully wound up.Just hope he doesnt have a mishap like last year.

I would have loved Kauto to go what i call the Best Mate route…Peterborough,KG,GC.

I would be against Denman this time (and from now on, I think). Agreed the Gold Cup form looks good sandwiched between Kempton and Aintree but it was the manner which he was campaigned that concerned me.
At Kempton he was returning from an illness and it looked as though the world had moved on in his absence.
On the surface Cheltenham looked great but he was handled so gingerly that he reminded me a of a heavyweight fighter who gets by on class but has stopped throwing punches.
He was also ridden very conservatively in a relativly small field at Aintree still sixth or seventh at the last in the back before moving up to be the only threat to MDB on the home turn. He was empty when he fell.
So what will they do at Newbury…has he the constitution for a bold front run?….I doubt it now.
Can he creep through the field as he attempted at Aintree or to a lesser extent in the GC…I am not sure he is mentally tough enough for that any more. All results are possible for the big chestnut with unplaced being the favourite for me, I think pulled up is more likely than a win.

I think he was running a belter at aintree DESPITE of the course and conditions. The big horse was running MDB down in my opinion, yes he was tired but he showed his guts and heart to stay in that.People slightly underestimate MDB and the improvement last year….especially round flat tracks.Denman of the year before would have struggled round aintree that day.Denman was wrong from day 1 last season….this year even PN admits he has Denman at his pre-season weight again. The big horse might just surprise a few next week.

Id like to see tataniano and sizing europe both come under pressure to see what the response is before backing either.

Until then im happy with somersby.

Getting Sizing Europe under pressue will be much more difficult than you might think. Don’t forget he was cruising when he was injured in the CH. He has a tremendously high cruising speed which is more suited to chasing than it is to coming up aganst the Binocular’s and Hurrcane Fly’s of the racing world.

Tantaniano is a very nice horse but I think what you saw at Cheltenham is what you get. If you watch the way he was travelling over the last 4 fences he was going fairly comfortably but he was racing….his neck was sticking out and he was loving it but many of those racey types don’t find an awful lot more when pressure is applied.

It’s fine doing what he’s doing running against inferior animal or a good one that falls when about to take him on, but if he tries that in the Arkle this year he better be faster than the great Dunkirk or he’ll be swallowed up well before the last. Most Arkle’s are won by horses coming off the pace.

They did the same with Tatenen last season and as I thought at the time he was a false fav for the Arkle. When he went to Ireland he was dropped in but it was in a small field and lost out to a good horse giving him weight..Shock!!!…can’t remember name sorry. Then in the Arkle itself his first time in a big field he falls. .

I do think he’s a better sort than Takenen, who I never liked, but this is a much better looking Arkle. The way this lot are going it will take another Master Minded to upset them and as nice a horse as he is I don’t think Tantaniano is up to that mark.

I just feel that sizing europe has serious quirks about him and its ok outclassing far inferior horses around irish tracks but if the guns to his head in a fast run arkle it could be a different story. As you say he was cruising in the champion then mysteriously went wrong….as far as im aware they never got to the bottom of that properly. What if its a cheltenham "thing"?,what if something happens like that in the arkle? what if he makes a mistake early?,what if he is taken on up front early?…to me at the price now i wouldnt be risking it unless i saw him properly tested. To me if i was to choose between him and tataniano for the arkle…although SE is a grade 1 hurdler…id back tataniano purely for the fact he won over fences around cheltenham, and to me that counts for a lot.Especially as he did it despite the ground. In saying that though, im dissappointed fosters cross fell,as i think we could havee found a bit more about tataniano.

Id have to see big zeb win a tingle creek or something along those lines to back him in a champion chase. I just cant see him at full pelt over the last 3 fences at cheltenham without blundering, whereas MM and WC have been and done it.

I may well be wrong and the horse does seem to be the part this year but its just my opinion.

I still think that the "tank" is the key to this.

He had a problem last season, his first run was needed very very badly(round kempton of all places to run him!),was also up against a horse who is probably THE best 3m chaser on a flat track outside Kauto.

In the gold cup he ran another absolute blinder despite being nowhere near 100%.

Sending him to aintree(again…aintree ffs) was probably in hindsight a mistake. He still probably wasnt 100% as PN says he needs to be big from the start of the season for something to work on…but last season was far too lean because of the heart problems etc.Imo he was going to beat MDB that day..now even the Denman of 2008 would have had a job round aintree on good over 3miles beating MDB never mind one with such interrupted preperations.

This year he seems to physically anyway be the "tank" of 2008…i think it will come down to how he mentally recovers from aintree though.

Yes hes nearly a stone higher than his last hennessey win,and there will be a niggle about how his heart prob affected him,but the big horse loves newbury and if he retains that old sparkle he might just grind them into submission again.

    well HOPEFULLY :D

PS I like the look of killyglen.
