A friend of mine tips me about 3-4 horses per year and usually abot half of them win.
He’s given me Companero for this race.December 25, 2009 at 12:29 #265454Days since last run last 10 Welsh National winners
34,28,39,46,37,21,20,26,25,24.
The Tother One 17.
I remember getting stuck into Mon Mome for this last year before he ran so well in the same Cheltenham contest as the current second fav. He never went a yard at Chepstow. I already had the opinion that you needed a minimum 3 week break coming here and that cemented it. The Tother One a place lay for me.That did hinder my initial bet if I’m honest Carv and I did get a bit nervous when they said he was running at Cheltenham.
However, The Tother One comes across as a horse who improves bundles for a warm up run and has a strangely unique turn of foot at the end of his races that could see him catch a win in the dying strides.
He reminds me a lot of Wichita Lineman from last year. Never say die attitude and he’ll be there or thereabouts at the finish
December 27, 2009 at 08:55 #265797I’ve had a hunch for ages that they are laying Merigo out for one of these long distance, soft ground handicaps. I didn’t think it was this one tbh. I was guessing was going to be a flat track Northern one, maybe the Eider, which he won last year, or a race at Doncaster, Ayr or Haydock.
His Carlisle run was clearly a warm up after the summer off. Bearing in mind he was carrying 11-10 on soft ground over 3m2f, for the purpses of form study, I think you can ignore it…and all things being equal, I’d fancy Merigo to beat the winner (Silver by Nature) any day. It may be that he still needs one more run to be right though.
If he does get declared to run off 10-00, I think I’d have to have a small covering bet on him (70/1 on Betfair is silly, imo even 25/1 with bookies is generous, bearing in mind SbN is half that). I would be worry though; am I backing him in the right race?
Other than that, I do really like The Tother One. He may have a fair amount of weight, but the form of that Wincanton race is working out really well (& nearly always does).
December 27, 2009 at 17:42 #265896This is a very tricky renewal. Whilst The Tother One is probably the classiest animal in the race he is carrying too much weight! In terms of trends, it all points to Le Beau Bai and Coe. Remember that French breds do ever so well here in terms of winner sto runners in comparison to Irish and British bred beasts. The American breds do poorly here so it might not be worth going to Flintoff.
Whatever, it is gonna be a cracker and will feature horses who will run well at Aintree…….
December 27, 2009 at 18:40 #265916I like to follow young / or second season chasers in this – six and seven year olds have certainly dominated this race in the last five years.
I’m taking a chance on the beaten Hennessy duo, GONE TO LUNCH (5th) and KORNATI KID (6th) for this.
Gone To Lunch went close to winning the Scottish National as a novice last season over four miles. He will need every last drop of that stamina tomorrow in what is sure to be one almighty slog. Halcon Genelardais was beaten in the Scottish National as a novice before beating Mon Mome in this race the following season.
Kornati Kid ran out of petrol in the National Hunt Chase (four miles) at The Festival in March after never travelling or jumping with any real fluency. He has always given the impression that he’s a real stayer and he’s open to plenty of improvement.
December 27, 2009 at 18:53 #265919My only bet is Kornati Kid; I’ve not had a chance to really look at the race but I keep being drawn towards that horse in a Mystic Meg sort of way! There’s plenty more that I’d like to have a bet on [Old Benny and Iris de Balme being two of them], but I’m sticking with KK ew. I’d love Gone to Lunch to win because I think he’s a grand horse who deserves a big win.[oops; forgot my bet on Dream Alliance]
December 27, 2009 at 19:10 #265925Coe is my tip in the race.
December 28, 2009 at 07:18 #265998Le Beau Bai should run a decent race here and poor old Halcon Genelardais will be placed again I fear. I like the look of Coe and even Ballyfitz to place. Remember to look out for bookmakers that are paying the first five home (Sporting Bet is one of these).
December 28, 2009 at 12:30 #266054I fancy Zacharova at a very big price. Hopefully he puts his best foot forward today.

I like your thinking there! This horse will be staying on well if he actually jumps!
December 28, 2009 at 12:38 #266059I have backed Halcon Genelardais to give me a run for my money with an e/w on Silver by Nature. Lucinda Russell does not travel normally so far to make up numbers and she spoke highly about this horse before Xmas. Whatever it would be great for this good stable to get a good run here.
Good luck All!
December 28, 2009 at 13:20 #266070Glad I didn’t have a bet on Iris de Balme after all. Which horse will be suited most by the omission of the last fence, I wonder?
December 28, 2009 at 14:29 #266081Two comeback kids.
Horse looked like he enjoyed every minute of that.
Great training performance, too.
December 28, 2009 at 14:37 #266082This is truly what racing is all about! Can’t tell you how pleased I am for the connectons of this horse, and I’m sure they’re not the sort of people to have £20,000 to spend on treatment for him. It was a fairytale when he ran that big race in the Hennessy and even more so today. Great stuff![if no one read the original article, just google Daily Telegraph Dream Alliance…]

Was great to see him win.
I myself had a good bit on HG and Miko de beuchene ew.Went with the 2 proven course specialists. HG ran no sort of race and was beaten a mile out. Old MDB got me my losses back though and it was good to see him run a big race.
Backed aran concerto and schindlers hunt ew in ireland too.
Fancy an upset in that…hope one of them get involved in it.

AP beaten on 3 PN hot pots but wins on Brendan’s.

Should have gone to the pub with me y’all be a lot richer
December 28, 2009 at 18:31 #266105Great to see Dream Alliance back to his best. Hobbs hasnt had the best of things in recent times, and Tom O’Brien is a brilliant jockey. Apart from the last, he jumped for fun. Interesting to see what weight he gets for Aintree, presuming hes entered.
