If last year’s novices are not going to step up to the mark, there must be a reasonable chance that Al Boum Photo could win again.

The ground was desperate and one or two well fancied horses fell.

Agree he needs a stronger pace but he is not going to find many stiffer tracks than Sandown! Going left handed is probably important for him. If he was mine I would take him to Leopardstown over Christmas but that is not Henderson’s style.

Sounds like you have a good bet VTC. I am not much of an ante post punter but I am tempted after that performance.

That was good from Andy Dusfrene. Life will obviously get tougher but I thought he jumped extremely well for a horse having his first run over hurdles.

I thought Champ won well. He was not absolutely foot perfect but his jumping was perfectly safe. Henderson mentioned the Kauto Star. Will be interesting to see how he goes stepped up in distance but going right handed on a sharper track.

I went to Exeter a long time ago. It is a good track. I still call it Devon and Exeter!

I would like to go to Wincanton again one day. The train got delayed which meant I missed the bus from Templecombe. I got in a taxi with three other racegoers and the driver said he would try to get us there for the first. He put his foot down and gave us a white knuckle ride but he was as good as his word. I would like to visit the track again but with a more relaxed journey!

That is a shame. I backed him when he won the Lincoln. He travelled so easily that day. One of those races when it was never in doubt! He looked like the proverbial Group horse in a handicap and it is sad that he never got the chance to prove it.

The large amount of entries is partly due to how little racing there is in Ireland at this time of year. There must be a case for increasing the number of meetings. It must be really tough for small and middling Irish trainers to keep coming up against Mullins and Elliot hotpots in almost every beginner or novice race.

No outstanding candidate so it is a no bet race for me. If pushed to make a selection, I wonder if it might be worth taking a chance on Lalor first time up? He won his novice impressively this time last year. He disappointed afterwards (especially at Aintree) and clearly has questions to answer but he could be overpriced if over his problems.

Agree with final furlong that Presenting Percy could be the forgotten horse here. It is a worry that he was not seen much last season but if he can come back to his best he is overpriced.

I backed Diego du Charmil on Saturday, so naturally I am pleased he kept the race! However, I admit I was fully prepared for him to be disqualified and surprised that he kept the race.

I do not think it was anyone’s fault and I am not sure the jockey could have done much about it. I am satisfied he jumped the fence but there is no doubt that he knocked another horse out of the race when it was still in with a chance. It was clearly not deliberate but I am not sure it should matter.

It was an unusual incident and I doubt it sets any kind of precedent but it does look a bit strange when a horse can force another runner through the wing of a fence and keep the race!

It will a shame if LBAR’s poor run puts off British trainers from having runners at the Dublin racing festival. I suspect it will.

Thanks everyone. I am really interested to see if he can back it up. I assume he will run in the Newbury race or maybe wait for the Long Walk at Ascot. It would be good if he could emerge as a competitor to Paisley Park, although I suspect his connections are not worried yet.

Agree with chestnut. I cannot get past the lasix issue. Good luck to anyone playing but it is not for me.

I hope they have a rethink. It sounds like a very bad idea to me and the horse owes them nothing.

I hear what you say but I think the stewards had no choice with Capeland. He did not jump the fence.
