Baraizan was very impressive, ruuning on strongly even at the end after making it all, an punching in a fast time. I though AP gave him a poor ride at Aintree, didn’t let him go. A serious contender for next year’s CH, IMO
great to se the old boy go out with a bang, but I don’t think it was a high quality race. WOA is stones below what he used to be, Cooldine hasn’t been performing well and Deman finished a close fourth depite being totally unable to handle the track. I was delighted to see Planet of Sound winning, but the form doesn’t amount to much
Remember the great rivalry between To-Agori-Mouu and Kings Lake over a mile in the eighties. I think they met three times, Kings Lake winning twice, and there seemed to be quite a bit of aggro. Does anyone recall the exact details?
I was particularly sad to hear of Schindlers Hunt’s death. I’ve followed him years, always just that bit short of top class, but always trying to make up for it with sheer guts, always trying his heart out. My condolences to his connections
great to see what the members actually look like!
how quickly we forget; Peeping Fawn was electric, and seemed to be improving with every race. Any progeny yet?
Al Eile, I saw him win a 3 yr old hurdle at the C’ham November meeting, looked precocious, but went on for a long and successful career, both flat and hurdles. He never ducked a battle and was a credit to John Queally.
I haven’t heard from him this year; has he been retired?April 1, 2010 at 21:39 in reply to: Best horse to run in but never win a “major” at cheltenham.. #287064Florida pearl, Pendil, Limestone Lad
Must be Dawn Run, also what about Wilford, who, I think, won a county hurdle, and ended up winning marathon chases
March 29, 2010 at 17:54 in reply to: Which flat horse would you like to have seen over jumps? #286337to many of these are stayers; too slow, and would they have to scope to jump a fence?
It has to be Kauto Star, just got even money with a local bookie’s special offer.
Carvills Hill, perhaps the best engine ever, just coudn’t jump, maybe should have stayed over hurdles. He was an iffy jumper as a novice, despite winning the Hennessey, but his fall in the Gold Cup seemed to ruin his confidence completley.
BTW the same thing I think, happened to Beef or Salmon, his jumping as a novice was superb, won the Lexus and Henessey, but after his fall in the GC he becmae more deliberate; still able to pick up 10 grade 1s, but never quite the same.
The message is clear, novices should avoid the GC; it shows the incredible achievemnet of Captain Christy and Dawn RunI’m fairly sure they were all-white, or very near to it. Are either of his victories not on those Cheltenham DVDs?
Thanks for that Grasshopper; Pandorama probably would have gone close, but at the moment it is hard to compare Irish and English form
have I missed something? Is Pandorama out?
slightly off the point, but why do some trainers, e.g Dermot Wels and Noel Meade, use sheepskin nose-bands all the time?
is he likely to stay hurdling or go chasing? I’d agree his hurdling techniwque is much less fluent than Golden Cygnet at this stage of their careers, but he seems equally superior to his peers.
I haven’t seen him in the flesh, is he big enough for chasing?- AuthorPosts
