yeh somersby looks good aswell, the alan king yard had a bad last season.
August 3, 2010 at 14:05 #310740Big Bucks is the best NH horse in training but he can’t jump a fence and don’t think any amount of schooling will change that.
I’d be surprised if he ever contended a GC.
August 3, 2010 at 14:16 #310744^ can you tell me how many times he’s fallen?
^ how did he nearly win a Hennessy aged 5?
^ how many races has he won over fences?thanks in advance

Never fallen and it was one of the softest unseating I’ve ever seen in the Hennessy. His race record over fences was 3 from 7.
Regardless of the above, he doesn’t jump well at all and it does cost him. Proper chasers would take a couple of lenghts out of him at every fence.
Over hurdles he’s a different kettle of fish and his race record of 8 from 8 over timber speaks volume. As I said best NH horse in training.
August 3, 2010 at 15:53 #310769what’s bizarre though is that he’s being judged from 2 years ago and as if he’s incapable of learning.
Strikes me as very odd.

Have you told Paul Nicholls that?
August 3, 2010 at 16:07 #310773Nicholls wants him over fences
it’s Andy Stewart that doesn’t

Of course he can learn but he’s never looked a natural jumper and that’s the worry.
I think you’ll see PN try him over fences with the results less than satisfying before sending him back over timber.
August 3, 2010 at 16:14 #310778If BB was mine,I’d insist he go back over fences. That the trainer has other GC contenders shouldn’t enter into it. Lets face it, 3-mile hurdling is the lowest grade of NH racing.

That reminded me of Noble Alan. Very good over hurdles and not bad over fences, but Aintree on Grand National day was a perfect example. His speed was causing them all sorts of problems on the flat, but his poor jumping was leaving him fighting an uphill battle all the time and was losing the ground he was making on the flat every time he jumped a fence, eventually running out of steam.
