Yeah, Kings Fountain, whatever happend to him? Kim Bailey trained him, I think; did he run in a Gold Cup?
Also Sweet Glow, plucky little 3-mile hurdler trained by M Pipe, used to come from off the pace, met Sweet Duke many times

I remember Beacon Light, one of the Golden Age of hurdlers, just below the top rung of Night Nurse, Monksfield, and Sea Pigeon. He won the Swinton hurdle, receiving a stone from Monksfield who was second.
H was also a decent novice chaser, and was favourite for the Arkle where he was run over by Ananglogs daughter, who was a machine that day

Good idea, thought I’d try it out, my daughter is a sportswoman and I asked her to name any horses; Arkle, Red Rum, Sea The Stars, Denman, Kauto Star, Istabraq, Rock of Gibraltar

no Desert Orhid, no Zenyatta, no Nijinsky, despite my prompting. Interesting, isn’t it?

Visually both Our Girl Sally and Hidden Cyclone were impressive, HC probaby in the stronger race. Both worth keeping an eye on

She wasn’t that far behind the winner down the back stretch. If she doesn’t have the tactical speed to be pt in the right position (compare that to STS) that is a serious flaw

V satisfactory from KS, but SE performed much better than I expected. Jumped slowly on first circuit, was taken wide all the way round, shold do bettr on good ground; maybe I wrote him off to soon

KS to win comfortably; SE on’t stay, and CR just below top class

I’m a great admirrer of McCoy, but his ride looked inadequate. I can understand him not driving from halfway, with a view to the future, but at least he could have made an effort from 2 hurdles out

I wa there that day as well, incredible day, in the replay you can see my hat sailing up the air after JJ passes the winning post.
Paddy’s forbearance with difficult owners should also be mentioned. Any other owner and Dawn Cup would have won the next three Gold Cups

China Rock seems a good thing, has run twice and should have a significant fitness advantage. Looked pretty sharp when beating Sizing Europe (tho I think SE is over-rated and didn’t stay)

so many of them, from premature death (Killiney, Golden Cygnet, and worst of all Dawn Run), to not living up to tall reputations (BJK, MYD Solzen).
But the pleasant surprises, thoogh infrequent, keep me in the game

superb performance, but unsure of the quality of the opposition; keep the powder dry
