October 31, 2010 at 00:38 #325542Did you lose a fiver?
October 31, 2010 at 00:52 #325544I’ll have to watch it back in a minute. If it is anything like the ride he gave Mister Hyde at Stratford it will be interesting.
EDIT – I don’t think it looks good, but there’s nothing in the rules of racing that states you have to use the whip 50 times to be trying. I wonder if it comes under the tenderly ridden category when the BHA put the stewards report up or, better still, if the stated objective from the trainer was to finish.

You sort of know what you’re going to get with early season NH races though, surely?

i know what your saying mate but gmooh is miles better that the shower he ran against today, he could have carried 14st and still won
there was no effort whatsoever from mccoy
"sports" personality of the year my arse
nothing sporting about that
October 31, 2010 at 06:35 #325555I’ve not followed post race reaction or public comments from McCoy, O’Neill or even McManus – I would be interested in any that do appear anywhere.
The horse pulled early, but it wasn’t the worst case of that in the history of racing.
Rounding the final turn McCoy is just about motionless?
Maybe the benefit of the doubt should be given, as there might be something wrong with the horse, but if the same old line of "he will improve for the run" comes out then it’s unacceptable.
The Rider stated that his instructions were to get the gelding to run as well as possible and most of all to get it to finish.
I just hope any "excuse," either official or not, is not as poor as the one offered above with the running and riding of the "tenderly" ridden Mister Hyde. That was good enough for the stewards at Stratford to decide no further action needed taking.October 31, 2010 at 09:33 #325562Sorry if I’m missing anything here but what was wrong with that?????
Just looked like a jockey looking after a top class horse on its first run of the season.
Sure the horse will come on for the race and be fully tuned up for the Greatwood in a few weeks time.
October 31, 2010 at 10:34 #325571This is my take on the race "Detroit" and i"ll tell you as it is!
GMOOH is carrying 11-12 first time out in an average handicap hurdle on good ground,he will come on for the run big time. The 1st 5 home are all getting bundles of weight from him and have gone a good clip throughout,(the fastest time of the card)confirms that. This race was never going to be a target for this horse but it was framed so that he could just about get in it and use it as a platform to further progression! Some may say a Schooling session in public if you want to be cynical!
I know this horse is a stone better than any of that field and if he meets them again he will beat them but thats racing! Me being me would be very keen to grab an Ante-Post price about him winning the Greatwood in a fortnights time! Stay loyal to this horse as his forms in the book and thats the only way you can survive at this game!If they can do it once under a set of conditions they can do it again and rememberThe Clock NEVER Lies
! It was an eye catching run for sure and looks even better on paper when you can see the weight pull the others were getting!
October 31, 2010 at 11:12 #325579The horse had gone up a stone since his last win (off 135) and had run off levels on his latest start at Cheltenham.
Jonjo didn’t run him over fences as he was worried about how he’d handle them and IIRC GMOOH isn’t the biggest horse in the world so carrying 11-12 under any circumstances was hardly going to see him in the best light. 5/2 was obscenely short against some pretty useful and/or racefit opponents.

. The horse clearly needed the run, couldn’t go with them when they quickened off that strong pace, and stayed on at the end despite the weight.
He’ll be a different animal next time out, and only people who believe that horses should be thrashed to hell and back every time they run – even where they can’t win – should be indignant about what was a tender but transparent professional ride, with the horse’s physical future in view.
Any chance that it might start at massive odds next time out has been blown away by the competent readings of this race.
October 31, 2010 at 12:10 #325588I backed him in the race, disappointed, but that was the chance you took. First race of the campaign, was obviously going to be eased into it. Next run he will be evens, and will explain the generous 5/2 from yesterday!

You can still get 6"s on the machine for the Greatwood JJM.you being the Ante-Post Prince should have known that!
October 31, 2010 at 12:51 #325596First the facts – it was a shocking performance. The horse pulled but not to extent to justify such a tame effort. Get Me Out Of Here had a 100% first time out record and has taken a keen hold before. The second favourite was very strongly supported and throughout the race was always in an ideal position – even if Get Me Out Of Here had performed the chances are he would have had to qicken once to get to the leaders and again to win. McCoy made little or no effort from turning for home. In my opinion it was a poor ride anyway – not the first time on this horse – but the question is if the horse was not injured did McCoy make/appear to make sufficient effort? Yes, he has had numerous great rides but this wasn’t one of them and for the purposes of balance shouldn’t just be ignored.

Would it be a shocking performance from a horse who was definately not 100% fit, under the circumstances No. look at the bigger picture Stilvi! This horse will come to challenge on the bridle at Level-ish weights in future! The forms in the book!
October 31, 2010 at 13:14 #325600Irrespective of the relative fitness of the horse, you have to be seen to be making some sort of effort. I fully appreciate the bigger picture here but it looked very poor to these eyes.

I"m not dissagreeing with anybody that says the ride stinks Smithy! On this occassion i can see why the horse didn"t win and even if he was 100% fit the clock tells you he would have struggled due to horses carrying 10 stone blazing off! The time of the race was very fast you know and under those conditions i can see why! I am the first to shout Non Trier (Point North) but there is no comparison of the 2 here imo!
October 31, 2010 at 13:27 #325602Its gratifying to see people on here being critical of AP or God if you prefer, i did not think it was allowed.
