Sure the initial reaction after christmas hurdle was to put him away to the CH,so this could be a speculative entry.

From a betting perspective, it really makes no odds. I havent been paid since Dec 17th and i would not be popular if i threw my last few pennies on the new lion instead of bread and milk this weekend.

Will sir gino run? I know he has an entry but i havent heard nicky come out and say he is a definite.

I would imagine he’d be more inclined to run if it was a tootle round with rubaud and burdett road and then put the race to bed after the last.

The new lion could be a spanner in works and we could yet see a newbury gallop with tradecraft and lelantos.

I can sort of see why Nicky would want to keep all options open after his last two Cheltenham’s. He’s actually had a good season with (i think) 4 G1s, a few G2s, the Lanzarote etc

This time last year he had the favourite for the Arkle, the champion hurdle, the champion chase and the triumph but things quickly unravelled.

Who was overhyping it? Most thought it was going to be a bit of a walkover for an irish hotpot against a old favourite and a couple of new pretenders.

He’s a bit of an arse who likes a cheap soundbite. Hopefully the mighty solness humps him for the 4th time at the DRF.

What a shame a class horse like MH has such a classless trainer.

Not gonna beat final demand but i could see slade steel in the places at a big, big price. So much experience for a novice, of course thats because it cant win a race!

Cyrname achieved a whopper rating because he could consistently run very, very well over 2.5 miles at ascot.

His ability didnt translate to any other track or distance.

Maybe IET cannot handle a true championship pace, and thats why he’s struggled at cheltenham.

The two Sandown races in which he has looked so impressive Jonbon has set the fractions. We know Jonbon wont go a mad pace in front.

Jonbon was outpaced after going the early gallop, but he stays. IET never looked comfortable.

Agree with whoever was saying Marine Nationale is a very good horse, but not a great horse. Even if he wins another cc, he’s not beating much. Buvuer D’air won 2 Ch’s but isnt a great and he done far more in between than Marine Nationale, who, more than anything else struggles staying sound and isnt particuarly versatile, ground or trip. Thsts why he has so few G1s on his ledger.

Old park star very impressive there. Still doesnt look like a supreme type of horse to me.

He might just be too good like Altior was, but he looks like a staying chaser!

Was interesting listening to Walsh’s take on Tingle Creek. Basically said that whilst his jumping improved, jonbon set no gallop at Sandown and IET didnt have to do much to win.

I’m not sure how you beat IET here. Best chance would be to set a real gallop and outstay him, but he’s won over further and chances are you just set it up for him.

Might not like Ascot or underperforms is only way he’s beat.

Loathe to desert Nurse Susan and fullly intended to back her after she won for me last two races and looked value. Having rewatched them this morning, 2m might be too sharp for her. Shes not a great traveller.

Think Sheehan perfect man to ride La Conquire for one crack.

Myretown could still be ver well handicapped, but he’s had two bad falls now.

Not sure hike in ratings will have caught up with Konfusion, still going away from them at Wetherby. I’ll strike whilst irons hot with him.

As a non-accountant i have not one shred of sympathy for him. If he’s trying to save ‘millions in tax’ then just how rich is he? Rich enough to pay his taxes.

I find it slightly annoying when i get my annual bonus that i pay so much tax (and this is all relatively small fry), but thems the rules!

    He’s greedy. Simple as.

Can only imagine that Harry Skelton would be gutted. Ultimately its up to the owner though.

Equally you can only imagine how Cobden would feel if each of the trainers wanted their most prized horses to be ridden by their jockey. Wouldn’t even be a question mark for AP or Geraghty.

The New Lion will be the most interesting, of course, as the Skeltons go beyond the normal trainer/jockey relationship.

See how The New Lion does over the next few months. He might fall a few times and then Skelton will be looking for a flat jockey to ride him at Lingfield.

Just read that Harry Cobden has rode 27 (i think but i cant find the article) G1 Winners for Paul Nicholls. I thought he must be getting close to Nico then. Nah. Nico has ridden 53 G1 Winners. There’s definitely a lack of respect for De Boinville’s achievements on the big days. Wonder if he keeps the ride on Impose Toi in the stayers. For what its worth, i thought he gave the horse two very good rides this season.

Be pulled out on the morning of the race due to the Standard going being not quite as standard as anticipated.

When Sam Thomas was riding i seem to remember he was plagued with whispers about his commitment and also weight struggles. I cant imagine you get away with much under Nicholls.

I think STD and Jacobs both struggled in the shadow of walsh.

The Bowen link was just conjecture. I just wonder how many jockeys would fancy it against their current lot?

Was the big gig not so long ago.
