January 3, 2018 at 23:09 #1335520Thanks for posting Joni, watched all three parts and there were some that i’d forgotten about. It will be a very interesting Spring this year. Fingers crossed that one or two of them will be top class like Cracksman.
All comers, all ground, all beaten
January 3, 2018 at 23:55 #1335527Thank you Joni, not ashamed to admit I have tears (of joy) streaming down my face watching that. It made me realise how very much I am missing the flat season.
So looking forward to seeing Elarqam again, hopefully winning the 2000 Guineas and great memories of Betty F storming home on the July Course on a hot Summers day, Lightening Quick living up to her name and flying at the finish to beat Bye Bye Baby and dashing Herculean joining Eminent with a special place in my
With his huge white face. I could go on and on.I shall have to revisit my Twitter account this year and join you and Jess Samy to catch all the great replays of the Frankelites as they make their bow next season and hope a lot of them turn up at Newmarket so I can see them make their debuts in the flesh….can’t wait.
One thing’s for certain I’m definitely going back to see Frankel again this year somehow or other, looking at him every day on my laptop screensaver isn’t enough.
He has bred courage, determination and true grit into his progeny and they are a joy to watch.Hope you had a good Christmas and New Year Joni, Titus and Chaos and look forward to celebrating more Frankel winners when the new season gets underway.

Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...January 4, 2018 at 16:20 #1335576You too Jac!!! Hope you all had a good one. Interesting article here about the likely runners in Dubai this winter including our very own Dream Castle. Will also be fascinating to see how Toormore gets on now that he is back in training with Charlie Appleby….

January 23, 2018 at 21:03 #13388122 out of 2 for Solo Saxophone today but he had to be ridden hard to win off a dawdling gallop. Like most Frankel’s, he’ll be better when they let him stretch a bit earlier.
In other news I see that Cracksman is likely to start his season in the Sheema Classic in Dubai on March 31st. Apparently he has grown even more over the winter and according to Johnny G has “a neck like a bull” ….. Can’t wait!

January 23, 2018 at 23:27 #1338826I would be concerned about going to Dubai with him in March – even though he won there, personally I think that race ruined Jack Hobbs as he was never the same horse again in his two subsequent starts after.
It would be a big ask first time out and they would have to have him really ready to roll and that would mean putting a lot more work into him at the wrong time of year especially if the main objective is an Arc in October.
Not really sure what the thinking is behind this plan and it smells like a bit of a cash grab to me.

I must admit the same thought crossed my mind LD but I suppose Jack Hobbs was a very different horse who had had problems before. He was clearly never right in his performances after Dubai. Interestingly JG said this week that he would be aiming Enable at the POW and not Cracksman. Cracksman’s main summer target will be the KG with Enable looking at the Juddmonte. They will both then be given a break and prepared for the Arc. JG pointed out that you can’t keep them at their peak over a long season so both horses will be let down at least once during the season. Enable aside, there doesn’t appear to be too much strength in depth among the older division over middle-distances so I suppose he thinks the Sheema is there for the taking. The horse is already cantering and raring to go apparently. Time will tell if it is a good decision.

February 8, 2018 at 14:43 #1341264Frankel still banging in the winners all over the globe with Tangmere winning in Australia yesterday. He is also unbeaten as a sire over jumps! :) Really pleased to see Winter Lightening again franking the form of Veracious over in Dubai. Not so long to wait now……

February 9, 2018 at 21:00 #1341454Jac – just for you:
https://www.racingpost.com/bloodstock/bloodstock-news/elarqam-s-dubawi-half-brother-joins-mark-johnston-s-yard/318822It’s not just me who says this is who he is! And that Frankel throws to the mare.
What is perhaps even more interesting is the observation towards the end of the piece, that MJR is confident that Attraction will soon join the ranks of G1-producing broodmares. Well, who is he talking about … I’m pretty sure that it isn’t (yet) Maydanny (her 2yo colt by Dubawi). But this is strong stuff this early from this yard – much like in 2004 when the yard were certain they had the 1000 Guineas winner.
February 10, 2018 at 10:09 #1341548Thanks Titus
Here’s hoping that Mark Johnston has a 2000 Guineas winner on his hands, can’t wait to see Elarqam in action again and how he has developed over the winter.Frankel making a good job of ruling the world so far isn’t he Joni, here’s the post about Tangmere’s win in Aus and have been following Meydan with interest this winter.
https://www.racingpost.com/bloodstock/bloodstock-news/expensive-son-of-frankel-gets-off-the-mark-at-randwick/318742Didn’t expect to see Cracksman starting of in Dubai, just a little disappointed with that with the usual concerns as stated. Really hoping to get to France this year and see him win the Arc, but not wishing away the whole flat season, so much to look forward too.
and also breaking into National Hunt with 100% record so far with Commentariolus winning at Fairyhouse.
Just talking with my friend the other day saying how much Sir Henry Cecil would have enjoyed seeing how the sons and daughters of Frankel have performed all over the world..
JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...February 11, 2018 at 20:47 #1341798Frankel is 10 today. Time really flies hey?! Some nice tweets on Jess Samy’s feed about the Guineas. Eddie Fremantle says it was the only time he ever laughed out loud during a race. Simon Rowlands has done some new sectionals which are worth a read as well. Happy Birthday old fella…

February 11, 2018 at 23:30 #1341809I remember that 2000 Guineas so well Joni as if it were yesterday, Frankel was on a mission as soon as the stalls opened – to reach the winning post before the others reached ‘The Bushes’
The atmosphere was electric and I’ve never heard applause and cheering for a winning horse at the two furlong from home mark and doubt I will ever hear it again. My proudest boast is that I’m sitting somewhere in that Grandstand which forms part of the photo of Frankel winning the Guineas, I was in the front row probably looking like a white blob jumping up and down waving my arms in the air, it was the most exciting day at the races I’ve ever witnessed..thank you Frankel and Happy Birthday you lovely boy.
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...February 12, 2018 at 07:28 #1341814I was there in the Grandstand on 2000 guineas day too Triptych. I remember when he burst out of the stalls going a million miles an hour I shouted out to the jockey “what are you doing!!”
I needn’t have worried though as there was enough in the tank and there was a sense of relief at the end.
Funnily enough I didn’t warm to him quite as much as I did Sea The Stars. Maybe it’s because I have a limited edition painting of Sea The Stars and Mick Kinane hanging on my wall which i bought prior to Frankel’s success. That might have something to do with it.
February 12, 2018 at 11:34 #1341840Happy Belated Birthday Frankel
It will be his dads 20th Birthday very soon so i think Frankel is not so much an old fella just yet.I didn’t make the 2000gns but was at Ascot for the Queen Anne and the Champion, saw him at York for the Juddmonte which for me was awesome as the crowd went bonkers as he passed St Nicholas Abbey at the two furlong mark still on the bridle. All of his races were special though, well apart from the St James.
Solo Saxophone was beaten some 50 lengths yesterday on ground that was like a bog, he had never run in those sort of conditions before.
Interesting read on Frankels early years, oh what might have been different if Frankel had been bought a year earlier or later.
All comers, all ground, all beaten
February 12, 2018 at 20:39 #1341935I overheard Joni and Jac singing ABBA earlier
Frankel, I was defeated, you won the war.
Frankel, promise to love me forever more.
Frankel, couldn’t escape if I wanted to.

Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...February 13, 2018 at 16:34 #1342061Nath and Jac – hilarious! God I would love to see you in a Frankel “sing-off”!! I’ve shared my Frankel/Guineas story so many times (in fact I think it is on this thread somewhere) – suffice to say I watched it in a betting shop in Cheltenham whilst my baby twins slept in the car outside. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I was lucky enough to see him 9 times and know I’ll never see anything like him again.
I’m going to write a song or a poem all about him one day and send it just to you Nath. You can sell it when I’m dead.
