Didn’t think he looked too happy jumping those hurdles today Chaos and put in some big jumps where he lost his rythmn and dropped back for a breather..but WOW what a finish he just cruised past them with so much more left in the tank. I’d love to see Dan Skelton get the owners to make him an entry in next year’s Cesarewitch.

Like you Chaos I can’t watch a lot of the jumps action I prefer to record it and then check the result before I watch. Lots might say that takes the fun out of the race but I can’t see the fun in horses falling and injuring themselves and prefer to enjoy watching knowing all came home safe.

Solo Saxophone was on a learning curb today and will be even better next time he turns out but if I were his owner seeing that turn of foot today I’d want him running without the sticks in his way. He’s still a colt and just three years old so bring him back to the flat and who knows what he might achieve.
With his breeding why risk an injury or worse.
JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...December 20, 2017 at 08:59 #1333125Don’t think I can watch a Frankel over hurdles so will be hoping he wins and look forward to seeing the replay when I get home from Christmas shopping, thanks for the heads up Chivers

Just to take to the opportunity to wish everyone a really Happy Christmas and New Year and looking forward to seeing the likes of Elarqam and Roaring Lion when I return to Newmarket for the Craven Meeting, somehow it always seems that much closer once we get into 2018. Look forward to seeing you there Joni.

One word, if you are planning on getting to the 2000 Guineas Newmarket to see Elarquam or Roaring Lion romp home 😉 book your ticket early as last year it was Sold Out on the day and lots of parties including those holding Members Badges were split up as their guests cold not access the Members enclosure. Jac

And a Happy Christmas to you Jac and to all contributors on here. It’s been a hell of a season with lots of ups and downs but I’ve loved every second. I can’t wait for the Spring and those early Newbury/Newmarket meets and hopefully plenty of Frankel’s strutting their stuff again….

December 20, 2017 at 09:03 #1333126Frankel had a lead of around 15 lengths by half way and won by six lengths, the biggest winning margin since Tudor Minstrel in 1947
December 20, 2017 at 23:03 #1333236Merry Christmas to all here, roll on next Spring.

December 22, 2017 at 01:24 #1333414I will be in the UK July 3-7 2018.
I would like to do the Newmarket ‘Frankel’ tour.
To behold the living Pegasus in the flesh.
Any tips here on how to go about this?
How long is it from London to Newmarket?
What is the best way to go?
Train?

You’ll need to get in quick as they get booked up quite quickly. All I could find was the Trip Advisor thread – https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUserReviews-g186386-d7070885-r416134436-Discover_Newmarket_Tours-Newmarket_Suffolk_East_Anglia_England.html
Jac (Triptych) will probably be able to tell you more as she went last year and was planning to go again this year I think.
Getting to Newmarket from London is either a train to Cambridge (about 1 hour) then a second train to Newmarket (20 mins), then you can walk from there. Or you can drive (about an hour and a half depending on London traffic!) ]
Hope this helps!

December 22, 2017 at 17:05 #1333488Thanks Joni. Much appreciated.
Have emailed the Newmarket tour folks and awaiting a reply.
Among the impressive things about this thread is the generous minded courtesy.
None of the mean spirited spite so common on internet forums.
Happy holidays to all Frankelites as we await Elarqam, Herculean, Without Parole, Nelson, Contingent, Ejtyah, Veracious et al sweeping the 2018 classics.
What is life without dreams?:-)
December 22, 2017 at 17:40 #1333492Pleasure FlyingChilders – at the very least you should be able to go racing. There are meetings at Sandown, Epsom or Newbury while you are in the UK.

December 22, 2017 at 18:17 #1333496Yes. Have already told the Missus we are on for the Coral Eclipse on July 7. (She has already told me we are on for the Hampton Flower show.)
Hope to see a Frankel in that race. Maybe Eminent?
But would still like to lay my own eyes on the the greatest thoroughbred to ever run on grass.
Unlikely to ever get another chance to behold such a unique genetic marvel in flesh and blood.
Perhaps the closest thing to perfection in any field that that we humans have actually witnessed and not just imagined.
The perfect song? The perfect work of art? The perfect book? The perfect building? The perfect scenery? The perfect athlete? The perfectly beautiful woman?
None of these exist.
But the perfect horse?
Yes there he is in living reality.
I hope to be able to say this to myself.

Welcome to our Frankel crazy thread flyingchilders, you sound as besotted as all of us on here so you have certainly landed on the right Thread to hear about everything Frankel.
Joni has already put you right about the journey time from London-Newmarket by car which would be the preferable way to travel if you were coming up to meet the Frankel tour which meets on the Rowley Mile racecourse for coffee before setting off. As they meet up on non racing days there would be no shuttlebus to bring you from the train station and it is not really within walking distance a taxi would be required.
As Joni said the Frankel Tour is extremely popular and they only release about 6 dates in the year for people to visit so you have to be quick off the mark. I had to literally sit by my computer waiting for the dates to be announced and by the time I had got to the point of sale they had almost sold out, it is such a popular tour. There is a more expensive option that Discover Newmarket offer where you can go to the gallops in the morning, visit a stable of a well known trainer, have lunch The Bedford Lodge and then on to Banstead Manor Stud, Cheveley to see Frankel himself.
It is a fabulous day flyers and you don’t just see Frankel, when I went Kingman was also there along with Dansili and Oasis Dream and they all came out for a spin so we could admire them. But the star of the show was Frankel and he knows it

I’m hoping to go again next year so look forward to maybe seeing you there and I think Joni might be planning a return visit too, I just hope we are lucky enough to get tickets.
Discover Newmarket do lots of interesting tours around Newmarket so you might even consider staying over for a few nights and visiting the fantastic Palace House Horseracing Museum in the town centre where you will get a chance to meet some ex-racehorses that are being retrained and meet Frankel face to face in the cinema room at the end of your visit (honestly he looked like you could touch him) so much to look forward to.
Just to wet your appetite here is a HAPPY CHRISTMAS photo from Frankel that I took on my visit last year and YES you do get that close to him…enjoy your visit
Jac
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...December 24, 2017 at 09:57 #1333798Another lovely Frankel 2 year old to whet the appetite as Gidu won his maiden in very fine style at Gulfstream Park yesterday. I was taken by his stride – https://twitter.com/Frankel1313/status/944647350420627456
He is owned by the team that gave us American Pharaoh and is described as a “very exciting colt” by Justin Zayat.

December 24, 2017 at 18:48 #1333861Watched the race Joni, impressive, although the most impressive for me was Without Parole, his turn of foot a furlong out and then being eased down at the finish to still win by 6l was what really excited me, he probably didn’t beat much but he was the only maiden in the race. John Gosden seems to have a way with the Frankel’s.
So much to look forward too.

December 24, 2017 at 20:22 #1333877“The way he trains, I don’t want to say he’s only restricted to turf racing because he goes over the dirt pretty well, too. We’ll see. He’s very exciting.”

American triple crown condender?
December 25, 2017 at 13:58 #1333938Yes Chaos – As they said in the Sporting Life the interesting thing was that he started odds-on against a field of winners. According to the ATR sectionals he ran Listed race times and covered the final 2 furlongs as fast as any 2 year old at the track this year and was only bettered by a certain Enable last year!
Some more festive cheers for Frankel fans here – http://www.stallionguide.com/news/posts/2017/december-2017/camelot-can-go-on-to-better-things/

December 26, 2017 at 00:27 #1333989I don’t think many breeders stump up 135 large with the intention of trying to breed a juvenile hurdle winner at Catterick Bridge.
How long before Frankel sires his first point winner?
