I didn’t hear that about Quick Grabim, he was a big fancy for me. Back to the drawing for me in this one.
January 10, 2019 at 11:35 #1392002Bred for 2 and a half is even better when it comes to the Supreme, Mark
January 10, 2019 at 15:46 #1392024Not necessarily. The Supreme is won frequently by horses who are better at 2 miles and fail to win over further at Grade 1 level.
Having a 2 miler with stamina doesn’t necessarily mean you can win races over further and many horses win over shorter first time up because they’re fresh; a few months later and they need another half a mile.
I can’t recall any Shantous who’ve won over 2 miles at Grade 1 level and the test which awaits at the Old Course is quite different to two miles at Ascot finishing into a stiff headwind and I think he beat a bunch of stayers.
January 10, 2019 at 16:45 #1392032Menorah, Al Ferof, Vautour & Champagne Fever all in the last 8 years all stepped up in trip afterwards.
Regardless of if they’ve won G1s again, they’ve been at least middle distance horses most of their career.Do you think the old course is sharper than Ascot? I don’t know for certain but i wouldn’t think that’s correct.
January 10, 2019 at 18:03 #1392042Yes, I think Ascot is stiffer, hence why I think 2 miles at the Old Course is less suitable for Angels Breath.
Champagne Fever stepped up in trip mostly over fences but his best form was over 2
Al Ferof managed to win at 2 1/2 over fences later in his career, like Menorah. My point is that I think Angels Breath is a 2 1/2 miler now and that he’ll get found out in the Supreme. Might be wrong but I’m against him til proven so !
January 10, 2019 at 22:12 #1392070Champagne Platinum was very good at Newbury but it’s difficult to predict what McManus will do with all his novices.
I have also been very impressed with Champagne Platinum. I think he may be the one to come out of the group. Very good turn of foot displayed at both Newcastle and Newbury. I haven’t gone in yet because I’m not sure which race he’ll be targeted at but I think he’s good value too.
January 11, 2019 at 11:53 #1392106Yeah – he might be JPs Supreme horse but then they could decide to have a handicap coup. I think he’ll run in Supreme.
What appeals most about CP was the progress made between Newcastle and Newbury – he’s bred to be a staying chaser but then so was Altior and he won this.
January 11, 2019 at 12:57 #1392110Isn’t that a massive contradiction to what you’ve said above?
January 12, 2019 at 17:37 #1392330He’s not chasing yet, is he ? In time he should stay further but it’s possible he has the speed for 2 miles at this stage. My main point about Angels Breath was that I think he’s more of a 2 1/2 miler NOW, a Ballymore horse, but had suitable conditions to win at 2 first time out.
CP is by Stowaway out of a Roselier mare , same as Champagne Fever.
January 13, 2019 at 16:02 #1392395Felix Desijy impressive today in a race won in the past by Vautour, Douvan and Kicking King. Will be the Gigginstown No. 1 horse in the Supreme, and now that they’ve finally twigged that the horse has to be allowed to bowl along in front over the minimum distance, he could go from strength to strength. Will be much shorter than 20-1 on the day.
January 13, 2019 at 18:44 #1392407I backed him and Annamix at the start of November.
Cashed out Felix Desjy for a loss the other week though. He won’t win. But it’s annoying i cashed out the bet nonetheless at a loss when he’s back to the same price.
January 13, 2019 at 19:05 #1392408That was one of the worst Moscow flyers ever run. Salsaretta comfortably beat FD last time and that’s not good enough to be in the shake up for a supreme
January 13, 2019 at 20:44 #1392425Yeah, it looked mediocre. Mullins fav ran a bit flat but even that’s not a decent horse.
Strange renewal again
January 14, 2019 at 07:47 #1392456He doesn’t get home over 2 and a half miles, so excuses for previous defeats. Let’s see how he does at Leopardstown before writing him off for the Supreme.

I actually don’t think he will be their number 1- ok he has the G2 win to his name, but it was an awful awful renewal + the Mullin’s two blew out again- clearly not 100% at Closutton atm!
I think Vision D’Honneur will be the no.1 hope + Elliot even said after he’s probably long term the better horse. He fairly took off after the last.
Pays a nice compliment to Klassical Dream- i’ve taken a small bit of 25s. Whilst he has more experience on debut than VDH, i thought he won nicely + probably didn’t win as well as he really could have.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!January 14, 2019 at 10:22 #1392465The VDH time was poor.
Its possibly even more open than last year’s renewal
January 14, 2019 at 10:32 #1392468The VDH time was poor.
Slow 26.7 secs compared to the Moscow Flyer slow 8.10 secs…..carrying 8pound more than Felix + it was a maiden compared to a G2- not all that bad??
