I’ve got a triple header of Scottish meetings to visit this week but weather looking a bit chilly on Wednesday, so Kelso prossibly dodgy. looks better for 2 day Musssleburgh fixture but just hope the wind isn’t blowing off the Firth of Forth.

Crossing fingers for Scottish racing Wednesday to Friday with cautious opitmism though many layers will be required, particularly on the top of the stand at Kelso! Racing is moderate fare though a couple of handicaps at Musselburgh keep this thread interested, and the brains of the ‘paddock-side cogniscenti’ ticking!

Nothing tomorrow of high enough class and just one contest at Wetherby on Wednesday.

    WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 29

    Wetherby
    3.00 Netywell 131; Gallic Geordie 130; Hystery Bere 117

Weather forecast seems to change by the hour so your guess is as good as mine as far as the next few days are concenred. It will be damned cold though!

Decent field numbers wise for the Class 3 event at Musselburgh though many have doubts. Simlarly the top rates for Taunton’s handicap have serious points to prove.

    THURSDAY NOVEMBER 30

    Musselburgh
    2.45 Magna Sam 130; Half Shot 127; Burbank 127; The Vollan 122

    Taunton
    2.00 Chabadatika 132; Decorated 128; Will Carver 125; Forever William 125

11.26 and they still haven’t decided if racing is going ahead today! We don’t know whether to drive over or not! Hope it does go ahead for all of the trainers that have travelled so far!

I ended up lay-by hopping between the Dalkeith by-pass and Soutra before Twitter confirmed everything was OK at 11:45. Got into the course with 12 minutes to spare for the first. Small crowd, about 600/700 which would be the lowest since ‘members only’ during Covid restrictions. No access to the roof of the old stand either, although we stood at the far end of the Tweedie Stand where viewing is reasonable.

From what I can gather the problem was safety access to the fence away from the stands. Each obstacle has to be reached within a set time and ict conditions around this fence meant the access time couldn’t be guaranteed. They eventually decided to omit the fence, though it would have helped if this has recognised a bit earlier. In the end conditions were testing but the course was very much raceable.

Fingers crossed for 2 days at Musselburgh, though I suspect if the first day goes ahead any subsequnet frost on opened up ground would be a problem for the second day.

They said it was a problems with vehicle access on the road which was had been covered in ice. We missed the first race but it was a lovely drive up through the borders with all the snow capped hills. It was much snowier round Coldstream than Kelso. Had it been rainy we wouldn’t have bothered but, although it was cold there was no wind. It was much colder last year I think. We spent most of the afternoon trying to find out where the commentary box was because Stephen was doing the commentary and we’ve known him since he was a nipper. We eventually found him when we realised the commentary box wasn’t actually in a box. He’s doing Musselborough tomorrow. Missed the last race which I’ve just watched: wonder how much Gypsy Lee Rose was in running? Winnie was plied with dog treats on arrival. It certainly was quiet: quietest I’ve ever seen a racetrack since we went to a jumpers bumper at Southwell and it was just me, Mike, Nicky Henderson and a woman in a fur coat.

Yes, Kelso ‘commentary box’ is a platform on the mid level viewing area!

Not exactly teeming with spectators at Musselburgh today on another cold day. Got through today’s meeting OK as the coruse missed the frost, but doubtful tomorrow as frost is forecast overnight with the ground cut up from today. I reckon Newbury might have the same problem for Saturday, even with course covers available.

    FRIDAY NOVEMBER 1

    Doncaster – ABANDONED
    Musselburgh – ABANDONED

    Newbury
    12.40 Richhill 141; Hecouldbetheone 140; Lallygag 139; Djelo 138

    3.35 Hurricane Harvey 141; Ramo 140; Rambo T 140; Espoir De Romay 138

Updated as two meetings have succumbed to the frost. Newbury goes ahead.

Saturday figures may be delayed as I’ll wait to see what meetings are likely to take place. Newcastle now in doubt becuase of snow.

Quite a surprise that all bar Newcastle is on today. We’ve had a couple of inches of snow up here overnight, no particular reason to go out so shall stay snug and warm inddors!

Inspections for both Sunday meetings today so I’ll not calculate figures until I know there’s a chance racing will go ahead.

This could be one of the more futile acts of hte week with both Huntingdon and Kelso threatened by waterlogging on Sunday but… If kelso’s not on Sunday I’ll sub in Ayr for my race meeting visit this week, the latter is good to soft so can take a bit of rain.

Kelso didn’t get as far as their inspection time before the meeting was called off. No great surprise given the amount of rain we have had in Scotland in the last few days. More hopeful for Ayr on Monday, 89 runners declared for 8 races and some competitive contests, so it’s Christmas shopping tomorrow then point the car westward at breakfast time on Monday.

    MONDAY DECEMBER 11
